Richard Weatherill, watercolour, North Yorkshire coastal scene. 23 cm x 37 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting is in generally very good condition. It has clearly not been in bright light and the colours are strong. We can see no evidence of any foxing or any other issue for that matter. The painting could be hung and enjoyed in its current state without the need for any repairs or restoration.
William Heaton Cooper (1903-1995), watercolour, a Lake District moor and mountain scene. 37 cm x 54 cm, framed, signed (see illustration). ARR CONDITION REPORT: The painting is in reasonable condition but does have minor issues. There are foxing marks evident in the sky in particular. These should be evident from our images. There is also what appears to be a minor scratch across the second from left mountain top. The cardboard mount is also very discoloured and showing signs of foxing. The painting in an ideal world should be cleaned.

David Roberts, RA (Scottish, 1796 - 1864) The Temple of Vesta at Tivoli inscribed lower left "Tivoli Oct 1853" pencil and watercolour 19 x 17½cm (7 x 7in) Other Notes: Krystyna Matyjaszkiewicz confirms that the inscription and date are in Roberts' hand and accord with several other known drawings made by Roberts of Tivoli from a slightly more distant viewpoint, one of which has the same date as the present watercolour ('Oct 25 1853'). One of these drawings is in a private collection and the other was sold at Christie's, South Kensington, 18 May 2000, lot 164. Roberts also painted a small oil sketch of Tivoli, (whereabouts unknown), intended as a study for a larger painting that, according to Roberts, was never carried out. The present watercolour may well be the 'Tivoli' categorised under 'Slightly coloured' in Roberts' Studio Sale, Christie's, London, 16 May 1865, lot 621. We are grateful to Krystyna Matyjaszkiewicz for her assistance with the catalogue entry. Slightly faded and worn.

ROBERT GEMMELL HUTCHISON RSA RSW RBA ROI (SCOTTISH 1855 - 1936), GULLS AT ST ABBS oil on canvas, signed 76.2cm x 101.6cm (30 x 40 inches) Framed. Provenance: The estate of the artist and by descent. Note: Robert Gemmell Hutchison was born and educated in Edinburgh. He was soon recognised by the art fraternity and became one of the most prolific exhibitors of his day. He was elected to many prestigious academies throughout the British Isles, including; The Royal Society of British Artists, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour and The Royal Scottish Academy. There are close similarities between his work and some of the Glasgow School of Painters in particular, in his use of broad brushstrokes and soft, mute colouring. Coastal views are most effective on a large scale, an inspiration Hutchison would have drawn from William McTaggart, and the younger artist was instructed by him at the Trustees' Academy in 1877 alongside notable contemporaries such as Arthur Melville and Patrick William Adam. This painting is a relatively rare and large example of a Gemmell Hutchison coastal view without children playing in the foreground. The McTaggart influence is obviously strong.
