Sara Willett Beijing Sun ii, 2021 Ink and Watercolour on Paper Signed on verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) Painting, for me, is a way of balancing stillness with energy and movement. One of the things I find most fascinating about painting is the slowing down of time, and how the temporal register effects the work. The process I have developed consists of both systematic repetition and conscious intuition, creating detailed, multi-layered surfaces - the curvilinear shapes that emerge are never entirely predicted. Repetition of form, as in the natural environment, creates complex growth patterns and rhythms, allowing the pictorial space to act as a platform for transformation and evolution. The layers create visual tensions and a dialogue emerges between what is hidden and what is revealed. The results play with the stability of the viewing experience, creating complex illusions of depth that confuse the eye and trick the brain. Education BA Honours Painting - Camberwell College of Art 1999 - 2001 MA Fine Art - Camberwell College of Art 2009 - 2011 Exhibitions Further from Home, Hatcham House Gallery, London 2020 Hold Your Breath, Project Space, Lewisham Arthouse 2020 New Work, 12 Hay Hill, Curated by 20:20 Art Vision, Mayfair, London, 2019 In the Space of Elsewhere, with Lu Mei, Project Space, LAH London, 2018 Kunstformen der Yuanland, with John Lunn, Being 3 Gallery, Beijing 2016 City Kaleidoscope, Being3 Gallery, Beijing, 2016 Spectre, Curious Projects Space, Eastbourne, 2015 China Web, Da Wang Culture Highland, Shenshen, China 2013 Shape Shift, Cinnamon Kitchen, London 2013 Kunstforment der Poundland, Deptford X London 2012 Ligeia, Deptford X, main programme, London 2011 Psychidea, Tinpitch Art at Ganapati, London 2010 Arabesque, Arthouse Gallery, London 2010 One Fine Day, Beverley Knowles Fine Art 2008 Awards Shortlisted - The Sunny International Art Prize, 2017 Shortlisted - The Creekside Open - Richard Deacon selection, 2017 Shortlisted - Deptford X Fringe Award, 2013 Fully supported residency - Being 3 Gallery, Beijing, 2016 Fully supported residency - Da Wang Culture Highland, Shenzhen, 2015 Fully supported residency - Da Wang Culture Highland, Shenzhen, 2013 Gallery Representation New Blood Art, UK 20:20 Iconic Art. The weeks I spent in the old industrial area of Beijing presented me with days of blue-skied autumnal beauty, but also days of heavy pollution when the city was bathed in crepuscular gloom. I became interested in the quality of light on these days; especially when the sun's rays struggled to break through the mists and at night when the air became a neon infused haze. The work began to respond to this visual phenomenon.

Simon Keenleyside Wood and Water (Pink), 2021 Spraypaint and Watercolour on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Simon Keenleyside graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2002 with an MA in Painting having achieved a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at Brighton University in 2000. He won The BOC Emerging Artist Award in 2002 and was the UK winner of the Lexmark European Art Prize in 2004. Keenleyside has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and internationally in Italy, Tokyo, America and Denmark. His work is in prominent private and corporate collections globally. Working within the tradition of British landscape painting Keenleyside explores the familiar surroundings of Essex, where he grew up and where he continues to live to this day. Depicting these spaces with an ability that discloses the mystery and ambiguity surrounding them, he not only evokes physical places, but also mental states and the desires and anxieties that accompany him during repeated trips. Nature is often depicted as otherworldly, suffused in ultraviolet hues and presented without perspectival recession or with an exaggerated frame of reference that imply an overwhelming experience for both Keenleyside and viewer. They inevitably produce a sense of unease and tension but are at the same time mystical and bewildering landscapes

Mary Burtenshaw Windswept Skies, 2021 Acrylic on Paper Signed on verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) I paint dramatic impressionist and abstract landscapes which are inspired by my love of the countryside and the many and varied places I have visited, creating the atmosphere and feeling of a place with the use of texture and light. My love of the countryside and how it varies in form at different times of the day depending on the light, and how the contours and colours change continuously is an inspiration to me. I see a landscape as evocative, a place that can provide memories but where we can all interpret something different even looking at the same scene. I try to depict the sense of space and mood in something so vast. My pastel landscapes are painted on watercolour paper which gives an intensity of colour and a strong texture but also a soft contour. The technique uses layers of pastel to recreate the form and depth. My acrylics are painted on paper, canvas or wood panel which all give their own different textures and I use various sizes of brushes to create a more abstract and spontaneous finish. Much like the pastels there are many layers involved especially when painting the more impressionist style. All my paintings convey an emotion that each landscape is unique and locked into an interpretive 'one moment in time'. Each one is intended to be viewed as if you are there and is something we can identify with, or perhaps as if we have all been there before. I studied Fine Art at Norwich School of Art graduating with a Fine Art B.A. (Hons). I usually paint on large stretch canvas or on medium size board, paper or canvas sheets so painting on a smaller scale presented a real challenge as I was worried that the spontaneity and fluidity of movement required for blending and texture would be diminished. However, I was really pleased that the fluidity was still possible to achieve the colour, depth and tone and I could still be inspired by my love of the countryside to paint at this much smaller size.

James Owens Empty Stage, 2021 Watercolour on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) James Owens' (B. 1995) work depicts imagined folk-like scenes, largely inspired by his upbringing spent between the countryside and a Yorkshire fisherman's village. His work gathers past, present and imagined scenes to form new narratives, blurring the boundaries between memory and contemplation. The works offer moments of liminality which draw from external visual references such as 1920/30's Disney animation. Nature and its mysteries also come to play, revealed through flowers which sway sinisterly and knowing eyes which seem to have it all sussed out. Meanwhile, curling blades of grass peer curiously across the canvas, weighed down by water droplets, drooping as though upset. Though inherently figurative, it isn't hard to feel like nature has the upper hand in Owens' works.   2016 - 2018

Though inherently figurative, it isn't hard to feel like nature has the upper hand in Owens' works.   2016 - 2018

James Owens Holding onto her love in the soil, 2021 Watercolour on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) James Owens' (B. 2016 - 2018

Josie Clouting Collecting Colours II, 2021 Acrylic on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Sarah Louise Hawkins Arcase, 2021 Acrylic on Watercolour Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) My practice is predominantly focused on exploring the spatial and optical capacities of colour, form, pattern and surface through painting, drawing and sculpture. The work is non-representational and often self-referential - shapes and patterns from one work will inform and inspire the composition of the next. This symbiotic relationship sees patterns, colours and forms appearing and transforming in a multitude of ways across all media.
