A 19th century Carron Foundry white painted cast iron garden bench, the foliate cast top rail above a serpentine shaped back cast with hoops above an arabesque and foliate pierced seat, standing on cabriole legs with a shaped apron, stamp and diamond registration mark obscured by paint, 113cm wide. The famous Scottish company of Carron was founded in 1759 specialising in 'Cannons, stoves and gates'. The origianl signed drawing for this seat, registered at the Public Records Office, is inscribed 'Class N.1. Carron Company, Carron Warehouse, 15 Upper Thames Street, London. Works at Carron, Stirlingshire, Scotland'
