An elm settle bed,18th century and later, the seven-panelled back over a base with hinged seat, enclosing a cot bed within,195cm wide58cm deep132cm highThis charming Irish settle bed, believed to date back to the 18th century, doubles as both a bench and a bed. Folding out to accommodate your overnight guests, it can also be used as storage, perfect for a hallway or living room. Settle beds were traditionally made by country carpenters in Ireland’s less affluent rural population, serving as an additional sleeping area for servants or children. This settle bed has been brought back to life, with damaged elm wood repaired, replaced and stripped back, accentuating its colour and decorative carving.
