GROSSE IKONE MIT DER AUSSCHÜTTUNG DES HEILIGEN GEISTES (PFINGSTEN) Griechenland, 17. Jh. Laubholz-Einzeltafel mit zwei aufgenagelten Rückseiten-Sponki. Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Hintergrund vergoldet. 54,8 x 39 cm. Achsialsymmetrischer Bildaufbau. Vor einem architektonischem Hintergrund sitzen die zwölf Apostel auf einer hufeisenförmig gebogenen Bank. Sie halten Rotoli oder Evangelienbücher in ihren Händen. Mittig am unteren Rand erscheint ein gekrönter Mann, der in einem Tuch zwölf Rollen hält. Er ist die Personifikation des Kosmos, die Rollen symbolisieren die unterschiedlichen Sprachen, die die Apostel nach Herabkunft des Heiligen Geistes beherrschten. Aus dem geöffneten Himmelssegment am oberen Bildrand treten Strahlen und der Heilige Geist in Form einer Taube hervor.
