A Private Detective badge and badge wallet used by Mickey Spillane as Mike Hammer in The Girl Hunters (20th Century Fox, 1963); housed together with a copy of Spillane's own Concealed Weapons permit, and a framed photograph of Spillane in the role. Spillane was one of the most read and sold authors in history with sales of 225 million books, mostly about hardboiled detective Mike Hammer. Several Hammer books were made into films, such as I, The Jury (United Artists, 1953), Kiss Me Deadly (United Artists, 1955), and The Girl Hunters (Fellane Productions,1963). In the latter, Spillane himself starred as the hard-boiled detective, and kept the badge following production. The Girl Hunter was a rare film in which Spillane starred as his own creation, co-starring Bond girl Shirley Eaton (Goldfinger [United Artists, 1964]). Spillane kept the badge on a bench in his hallway, with the gun from the film and his hat. His trademark trenchcoat was hung on the wall with several images of him in costume. He often posed with guests in front of the images. Later in life, he was one of the TV spokesmen for Miller Lite Beer in a series of humorous commercials. These pieces were originally purchased from Spillane's estate.13.5 x 16.75 x 1 inches
