A BLACK AND WHITE JADE GROUP清代 黑白玉巧雕嬰戲擺件China, late Qing dynastyCarved, depicting two children playing on a bench. One is lying down playing with a cricket in a cup, while the other is leaning against them.Size.7.5x7.3x4.4 cm Condition Report: The group is in overall good condition. There are minute nicks to the hat of one child; a tiny damage on the corner of the bench.
dating: about 1880 provenance: Europe, Round, smoothbore, swiveling, 12 cal barrels made of damask with rib marked 'CANONS DE E. BERNARD' in gold. Bore with some signs of use and pitting inside. Marks of the Liege test bench below, with marks of the manufacturer and 'EUGENE BERNARD / CANNONIER'. Finely engraved and carved rear tang and receiver, both with racemes on a dotted background, receiver depicting deers. Backward spring locks, engraved en suite and with bloodhounds. Two-snap mechanisms, both well working. Briarwood butt with checkered handle. Steel mounts engraved and carved en suite with the other elements. length 116,5 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Belgium, Octagonal, rifled, 12 mm cal. barrel (clean bore, still visible rifling), damascened, engraved at the base with floral motifs, with precision sight, mark of the Liegi test bench on one side; engraved tang. Forward spring lock engraved with floral motifs, wooden, three-quarter stock carved with floral motifs at the fore-end cap and with grooved butt. Iron mounts decorated en suite, trigger guard with finger support, set trigger. Originally cased, therefore manufactured without ramrod. The hammer does not hold the second rest. length 42 cm.
dating: Early 19th Century provenance: Belgium, Smoothbore, round, turn-off, 12 mm cal. barrels; boxlock-type frames finely engraved with Empire motifs, mark of the Liege test bench. Upper hammers with browned safety lock. Foldaway triggers. Beautiful wooden butts carved with palmettes and with fine checkering. length 17 cm.
dating: about 1855 provenance: England, Smoothbore, octagonal, 9 mm cal. barrel with foresight and engraved nozzle. Smooth, six-shot cylinder, engraved at the front, with marks of the test bench. Long, back hammer; frame in a floral engraved oval. Iron trigger guard, checkered wooden grips. Iron mounts engraved en suite. length 31.5 cm.
dating: about 1870 provenance: England, Smoothbore, octagonal, 7.5 mm cal. barrel at the nozzle (bore with encrustments, it needs cleaning) of white metal marked 'NON XLL' on one side and 'UNWIN & RODGERS PATENTEES.SHEFFIELD' on the other, with mark of the Birmingham test bench. Steel breech, provided with extractor and bolt mounted on two long arms which opens by rotating it upwards. Steel frame almost completely covered along the sides with two long brown horn grip scales, one with clearly visible missing parts. Provided with two single-edged folding blades, one engraved with the inscription 'PROTECTOR', stamped 'VR' with crown and with another inscription 'UNWIN & RODGERS PATENT', the other with the same patent at the base. White metal mounts. Folding trigger. Grip with opening compartment. length closed 16,5 cm.
dating: about 1855 provenance: Belgium, Rifled, octagonal, 10 mm cal. barrel, with breech and foresight, the base marked 'V', 'MF' under crown, serial number '1141' (as also cylinder and frame) and 'MANGEOT & COMPLAIN BREVETES'; six-shot cylinder engraved with floral motifs, with mark of the Liège test bench and 'V' under crown. Frame and mounts finely engraved en suite. Checkered, wooden butt. Working mechanism. length 32 cm.
