A North European pine box seat/hall bench, first half 19th century, with forward hinging seat and front, 102cm high, 184cm wide, 46cm deepProvenance: Private Collection, BerkshireCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Old splits and cracks,the whole front of the bench hinges forward and not just the seat, it is secured by two hooks to the back - these are present and holding securely at time of reportThe seat with wear, watermarks and stains, it would properly benefit from a sympathetic clean and polish. Some signs of old filler to the old splits and cracks. The hinges have been moved to the interior, they appear to still be the originals, just re-sited. Condition Report Disclaimer

Humphrey, Nov. 27th. 1782, uncoloured etching on laid, some spotting. slight staining and dust soiling, 350 x 250 mm, together with "Oh! that this too too solid flesh would melt, [1791] but a later impression by John Miller, London and William Blackwood, Edinburgh, [1824 - 27], etched caricature with contemporary hand colouring, slight mount staining, 210 x 240 mm, with Cruikshank (G. Buller's conduct on the bench was often the subject of severe criticism, and he was accused of being very severe and prejudiced. He was the subject of controversy due to an alleged statement he made that "a husband could thrash his wife with impunity provided that he used a stick no bigger than his thumb" . This claim was widely circulated and led to Buller being caricatured as "Judge Thumb" and depicted carrying a bunch of 'rods'.

Steam trains, topographical, public gatherings, athletics, child operating a saw bench, agriculture, irrigation scheme/waterwheel, village life, cattle marking/sorting/market, Kenyan military/militaria with rifle, 'District Commissioner Elgeyo Marakwet' Land Rover, open air schools, biplane and aerial views of cities, dipping cattle, technical annotated photographs for building of Supreme/law courts, court in progress, shops, commerce, veterinary interest. Africa Inland Catholic Mission, Africans looking at nativity scene with amusement, West Pokot Missionary Society, tribal gatherings with finery, military marching band, multiple cityscapes, housing, dam, riverboat trip with elephants hippopotamus etc, West, Suk and Nairobi interest, polo match, Tambach regulation office, white colonial life interest, Leica pamphlets and promotional items, political pamphlets/flyers about citizenship, the constitution, voting, political rallies wildlife etc. In all over 700 photographs and items of interest as well as a fascinating financial ledger of colonial and East African/Kenyan life in the 1940s.
A modern verdigris patinated scrollwork iron framed bench with upholstered seat, 139 cm wide x 40 cm deep x 95.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Appears basically sound throughout. The iron work has a verdigris patination which appears to have speckles of rust in several areas though this may be part of the effect giving it an "antiqued" look.
