The Swing: After Fragonard in the Wallace Collection, circa 1770's. The lady on the swing reputedly the mistress of a member of the French Court. The fine mother-of-pearl monture is silvered and gilded, elaborately carved, the central vignette of three gilded figures, two others to the sides of ungilded cherubs, the guards with a cherub and figure. The painted scene set outside a modest house shows friends at leisure in a garden, a swing fixed to a tree, a gentleman pulling it with a rope. To the right, a young man about to play the bagpipes, his dog standing alert, and to the left, a small boy seated astride a log watching the activity. The scene is bordered with flowers and musical instruments. The verso depicts a restful countryside scene of a young boy seated on a bench by a river, playing a flute. Guard length 28 cm. Together with a dark green tube fan box, noted inside ''Fragonard, 1775''The leaf rubbed on the folds and fairly rubbed at the lower edge, possibly having been restored, gilding a little rubbed,
A Circa 1810 to 1830 Bone Fan, with a double paper leaf, and very unusual overlapping gorge sticks, forming hearts. The guards are overlaid with a greyish mother-of-pearl. The leaf depicts, to the right, three people taking refreshments, a throne to the right, a man seated wearing robes and a feathered turban. A second male is wearing a cloak. To the left, a man in doublet and hose is laid out on a garden bench, a lady in a red robe and intricate hair ornament attending. In the centre, a large table where a group of people are taking refreshments, the women in colourful dresses, the men in doublet and hose. The verso appears stipple printed, with roses to each side, and a wealthy couple in Regency costume taking a stroll and examining the wares of a roadside flower seller. The unusual pierced gorge sticks are arranged in pairs, with gold highlights, and are equally of interest when the fan is closed and laid on its side. Guard length 23cmLoss of some Mother of pearl to the upper guard. Repairs to the leaf on the verso, most folds.
A pair of Victorian style garden benches with bramble detailing to backs and scroll sides, 104cm wide and a pair of side tables with pierced tops, 50cm diameter/see illustration Condition Report: These are copies of earlier chairs and have no great age, they are 30 or 40 years old. The tables also modern. In good condition and recently re-painted. Bench is 86cm high.
