SIR KYFFIN WILLIAMS RA early period inkwash - Gerlan chapel near Bethesda, Gwynedd with the village, telegraph poles and Pen-yr-Ole-Wen beyond, signed with initials, 46 x 55cms Provenance: to accompany the painting a typical handwritten letter being a lovely example of Sir Kyffin's irreverent humour, on Pwllfanogl' headed paper; the letter confirms the location of the composition and that the chapel at the time of writing was 'ruined', Sir Kyffin goes on to say 'There is a bench outside the chapel with 'Llandudno Junction' on it, put there presumably during the war to confuse the Germans. I write 'is' but i fear it should be 'was' as someone has nicked it. Maybe in the next war, it will find itself in front of a chapel in Tonypandy...' The vendor purchased the painting from Howard Roberts Gallery in circa 1969
