A Regency style mahogany hall bench In the manner of Charles Heathcote Tatham The panelled seat with scrolled ends and moulded rosettes, above rectangular fluted tapering legs, on curved panelled feet, 120cm wide x 36cm deep x 49cm high, (47in wide x 14in deep x 19in high) Footnotes: Provenance: Eddy Bardawil. Charles Heathcote Tatham's (1772-1842) stool design is inspired by a marble classical Roman seat, illustrated in his Etchings Representing the Best Examples of Ancient Ornamental Architecture Drawn from the Originals in Rome and other parts of Italy, during the years 1794, 1795 and 1796, 1799, pl. 77. Tatham had been encouraged by his employer and mentor, Henry Holland (1745-1806), to study and collect antique fragments and sculpture in Italy. The scrolled ends mounted with rosettes, the fluted legs and curved feet clearly relate to Tatham's stool.
