He was the younger brother of the equally famous Ettore Bugatti, founder of the Italian automobile company Bugatti in 1909. The decisive encounter that revealed the young sculptor took place in the Jardin des Plantes, at the Natural History Museum Paris, next to where Rembrandt Bugatti lived. There, the menagerie became his laboratory and main source of inspiration until he traveled, in 1906, to the largest zoo in the world at the time, the Antwerp Zoological Gardens, in Belgium, where Michel l'Hoest provided him with a studio. For the first time, he was able to observe wild animals up close. His encounter with lions, lionesses, panthers, leopards, jaguars, wolves, vultures, elephants... would change his life and guide his destiny along a lightning trajectory. The masterpieces admired to this day, are the result of his daily study of animal behavior, of their environment, of their beauty. In 1906, Louis Vauxcelles had recognized his talent and made his appreciation widely known. The fate of the great sculptor was also linked to one man, the art collector Adrien Hébrard. In 1902, he opened a foundry on rue Victor Duruy, which would soon be famous for the quality of its bronzes. He then decided to become an editor of bronzes which enabled him to reproduce and distribute certain sculptures. Indeed, the gallery installed rue Cambon, and later rue Royale, contributed to the rise of many artists whose sculptures were on display for sale, just as was this sculpture. The reputation of the foundry spread like wild fire and the greatest artists such as Degas, Guino, Bourdelle, Pompon sought its expertise. Antoine Hébrard was a visionary collector who chose the best foundry master, Albino Palazzolo. Trained at Valsuani, the Milanese foundryman was considered to be the most respectful of the artist's intentions and was able to render the intensity emanating from Bugatti's works, among others, during his collaboration with Hébrard. The Deux Léopards marchant are spectacular for their cast quality and exceptional patina, as were most of the bronzes produced by the animal sculptor. The full spectrum of Rembrandt Bugatti's talent is represented in this lively, elegant and dynamic work. Though he had only studied animals in cages, they seem to come to life as if in the wild. Bugatti was the only sculptor of his time who was able to capture with such perfection the movement and attitude of the animal he rendered. Bugatti modeled the surface in volume, revealing the musculature, the bones and shapes of the two felines. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting originally appeared on the Federated States of Micronesia 55c 1958 Thunderbird Convertible stamp issued June 4, 1996. In 1896 Henry Ford built his first car -- the Quadricycle. This unique vehicle featured a buggy-type chassis that rolled on bicycle-type tires and weighed only 500 pounds. Reaching a speed of 20 mph, the Quadricycle was powered by a four-horsepower, two-cylinder, four-stroke, water-cooled engine. It had two forward speeds but no brakes or reverse gear. Henry Ford went on to produce a long line of Ford automobiles. Ford's 1917 Model T truck featured a larger high-set radiator than previous models, as well as crowned fenders and nickel-plated hubcaps. The Tudor sedan was the first Model A built, and was introduced in 1928. This instantly popular automobile could reach a speed of 65 mph. One of Ford's first sporty cars was the 1932 V-8 Sport Roadster, which featured fold-down windshields. These tough cars also had anti-theft locks on the steering columns. In 1941, the Lincoln Continental became a separate model instead of a Zephyr series, and in 1953 the F-100 half-ton pickup -- with a 110-inch wheel base -- debuted. This rugged truck sold for $1,330. A personal luxury cruiser, the Thunderbird convertible was re-introduced as a four-seater in 1958. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting originally appeared on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 37c Tunda Muskox Arctic Animals stamp issue of July 2, 2003. Called omingmak -- meaning "the animal with skin like a beard" -- by Inupiaq-speaking Eskimos, the muskox Ovibos moschatus has changed little since the last ice age. Mature bulls average five feet high at the shoulder and weigh up to 800 pounds. During the rut (the annual period of sexual excitement in the males), battles between bull muskoxen become battering contests which are as spectacular as they are violent. After a mutual display of aggression, two bulls charge at top speed directly towards one another from distances of 50 yards or more, colliding squarely on their horns. Incredibly, the sound created by this tremendous impact may be heard from up to a mile away. Following a clash, the competitors back up, swinging their heads from side to side, and then repeat the sequence until one bull runs away. A battle may consist of 20 clashes -- each with a force equivalent to that of an automobile slamming into a concrete wall at 17 miles per hour. Luckily for them, bull muskoxen boast heavily armored skulls to protect them from the intense shock of impact; four in of horn and another three in of solid bone lie directly between the animal's brain and the area of contact. After muskoxen disappeared from Alaska in the 1800s, a transplant population of some thirty specimens was brought from East Greenland to Alaska's Nunivak Island in the 1930s. 1989 Volkswagen Golf Mk. I Clipper Cabriolet Transmission: manualMileage:103375In May 1974, Volkswagen presented the first generation Golf as a modern front-wheel drive, long-range replacement for the Volkswagen Beetle. Later Golf variations included the Golf GTI 'hot hatch' introduced in June 1976, a diesel powered version from September 1976, the Jetta notchback saloon in October 1979 and from the end of 1979 the Golf cabriolet built by Karmann. September 1983 saw the introduction of the second generation Volkswagen Golf, the Mk. II, that grew slightly in terms of wheelbase, exterior and interior dimensions while retaining, in a more rounded form, the Mk. I's overall look. There was not a Golf Mk. II based cabriolet model, instead, the Mk. I cabriolet was continued over the Mk. II's entire production run. Karmann, in Osnabrück, Germany, was until 2009 the largest independent motor vehicle manufacturing company in Germany. For more than a century, they have undertaken various roles, from design to production and assembly of components for various automobile manufacturers including Chrysler, Porsche and the Volkswagen Group.Originally registered on 24th May 1989 this Volkswagen is painted white with a grey cloth interior and a black roof. Presenting in good all round condition this Golf Mk. I Cabriolet, has had work carried out within the last 12 months including the fitment of a new alternator, fuel pump and starter motor. The carburettor has been refurbished, a new cambelt has been fitted as has a new roof. This is a very tidy example that can be used and enjoyed immediately. These very stylish cabriolets offer retro looks, wind in your hair motoring and German reliability. Lot 138 - 1961 Daimler SP250 Dart ‘B’ Specification Transmission: manualMileage:88982The controversially styled Daimler Dart was introduced at the New York Motor Show in 1959 and had its European debut at the 1959 Earls Court Motor Show; the Dart name was soon dropped after the threat of legal action from Chrysler who had a car of that name within their Dodge division. Thereafter this new sports car was known as the Daimler SP250. Power was provided by the 2.5 litre, Edward Turner designed, V8 that soon became revered for the smoothness in its power delivery with 140bhp on tap. Independent double wishbone front suspension at the front and half elliptical springs at the rear with a live rear axle kept the car on the road with stopping power supplied by hydraulic disc brakes on all four corners. The coachwork was constructed with glass reinforced plastic providing a tough, strong and lightweight shape that enhanced performance with exciting and non-traditional looks. The 120mph plus capability was recognised by the police and they were soon being used as high-speed chase cars. 505 WPU is reported to have undergone restoration in the early 1990's with the body being stripped and repainted in Navy Blue, the interior tidied up and the engine rebuilt. Any other mechanical work required was also reportedly done at the same time. The supplied purchase receipt to the buyer Dr. Jacobs in September 1993, shows the beginning of much care lavished on the car by the Doctor under his ownership, clearly keen to maintain its restored condition. There are many receipts from Classic Automobile Repair Services of Wandsworth, London, under Dr. Jacobs ownership, detailing the care that was given to the car. Amongst these items was the inclusion of fitting a Kenlow fan to aid with engine temperature regulation in London traffic as well as other works such as carburettor rebuilds and steering strip and rebuild. The vendor reports the car to run and drive extremely well, attracting admiring looks wherever it goes.Supplied with the UK V5C registration document and history file. With a desirable low ownership, this rare, early 'B' specification SP250 offers great usability and looks to match.

One of only eight H.J. Mulliner Two-Door S3 Continental Coupés, finished in Pine Green and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cars in the world.The Series 3 is perhaps the ultimate post-war Bentley in terms of appearance, performance and practicality, as well as the last medium sized Bentley to be offered with custom coachwork and H J Mulliner of Chiswick were responsible for some of the most iconic and beautiful coachwork designs on post-war Bentley chassis, especially the Continental variants. Their styling of the R-Type and S1 Continental fastback coupés evolved into the S2 Continental Coupé, with the final development being Design No. 2012: the S3 Continental Coupé. The car’s flowing lines were very similar to those of its predecessor, but Mulliner's third-generation Continental was produced in far fewer numbers, with just eight cars in right-hand drive and a further three in left-hand drive.Quad headlamps were the S3's major styling innovation and the indicators on the new models were incorporated into redesigned sidelights, positioned on the front of the wings. Headlamps aside, the most significant change was to the S3's engine, which boasted an increased compression ratio, larger carburettors and a Lucas vacuum-advance distributor, modifications that raised peak power by some 7%. The car’s power steering was further developed offering more feel in the straight ahead position but remaining light and user friendly when trying to ease this substantial automobile into a parking bay. A further minor change was the adoption of smaller bumper over-riders and a slightly reduced radiator height of about 1.5'', giving a sloping bonnet line and improving forward vision. Individual front seats and arm rests became a standard feature, and more powerful lighting and additional indication lights and switches on the instrument panel were introduced, presenting a far more modern feel to the last of the S-series Bentleys.Chassis number BC 88 XA is one of those original eight right-hand drive cars and is recorded as having been completed on 22nd February 1963 and supplied new by H.R. Owen of Mayfair to its first proud owner after being registered and taxed on 1st of March, 1963. It’s finished in a glorious shade of Pine Green with a single gold coach line over a magnificent tan leather interior.There is a fair amount of history with the car and a decent number of invoices for work completed between 1987 and 2005. A Minor Road Test and Workshop Mechanical Report was carried out for the car’s then owner, K.J.Riding Felce, by P&A Wood and their recommendations were carried out as confirmed by a 12-page invoice dated 7th July 1987 and totalling £11,374.27. Further invoices detail servicing and maintenance and the work was always entrusted to well known Bentley specialists including P.J.Fischer, Jack Barclay, M.B.Jarvie, and Broughtons. We note that on 5th December 1988 the car was fitted with seatbelts and a car telephone at a cost of £1,064.33. Within the file there are a substantial number of previous MOT Certificates dating from December 1988 at 80,993 miles (registered 698 JGK and subsequently 1551 DM) up until late April 2010 at 91,313 miles (registered XMW 81A).There are a couple of Bills of Sale with the car indicating that it was purchased by Geoffrey Greenwood on 17th October 1988 for £85,000 and became the property of Dr James Hull on 26th October 2010 for £156,000. Delivered new to The Earl of Sefton, this stunning R-Type is bodied by E.D. Abbott of Farnham, Surrey in 'Continental' style. Only a handful of such were constructed, and offer stunning styling for a fraction of the cost of the celebrated Fastback Continental.In June 1952, Bentley’s new R-Type was presented to the public and it owed its name to the fact that the VI Series had, by this time, reached the chassis letter ‘R’. The new model continued to utilise the MkVI’s independent front suspension, hydraulic front brakes and six-cylinder, 'F-head' power unit, by now extended to 4,566cc. The standard R-Type was a lively performer, achieving 106mph in silence and reached 50mph from standstill in 10 seconds, despite a curb weight approaching two tonnes.As usual, the R-Type could be ordered in chassis form for bodying by specialist coachbuilders and this manual transmission example was the work of E.D. Abbott of Farnham, Surrey. The stylish, streamlined Continental-style fastback coupé coachwork, designed by Abbott's stylist Peter Woodgate, had been intended for the superseded MkVI chassis and bore more than a passing resemblance to H J Mulliner's contemporary Bentley Continental. After two prototypes had been completed, Abbott bodied 14 'production' cars, that offered here being the first. Of the remaining 13, one was fitted with automatic transmission and one was built with left-hand drive.We understand that B393SP, was sold new to The Earl of Sefton bodied in ‘Continental’ style by Abbott, as a two-door coupé in Ascot Grey.OYE 700 is accompanied by a fascinating history file which contains a list of previous owners which confirm that the car’s first owner was indeed the Rt. Hon. Earl of Sefton at Croxteth Hall. In 1968 it became the property of Richard Clover from Worcester and ten years later, it was registered to the Midland Record Company (Peter John Riley). Jeremy Pemberton of Yellowhammer PLC. acquired the Bentley in 1990 before selling it in 2004 to specialists dealers Frank Dale and Stepsons who, according to invoices in the file, carried out quite a lot of work on the car. A Michael Percival is listed as owning the car in 2004 with Eric Adkins in 2005 prior to Mr and Mrs Silverstone also in 2005. The famous car-collecting dentist, Dr James Hull added it to his Collection in late 2009 and, naturally, it moved to our vendor’s significant Collection around 2012 when Dr Hull sold everything.There are a number of older invoices with the car and it appears that by 1985, whilst in Peter Riley’s custodianship, the Bentley was looking a little sad. A.B.Price, Automobile Engineers of Studley provided an ‘Estimate’ dated 4th February 1985 for “Totally stripping coachwork, rebuilding corroded and damaged panelwork, re-cellulosing the car, replacing wood frame in body structure, completely refitting the interior woodwork and reassembling all fittings etc”. The estimate totalled £14,338. Invoices over the next 18 months totalling over £20,000 from A.B.Price detail the work completed and later invoices over the years from Frank Dale & Stepsons and Hillier Hill detail subsequent maintenance and repairs with the most recent one dated 8th October 2011 recording the odometer reading of 50,572 miles.The history file also contains a number of old V5s, a dozen older MOTs, lots of correspondence, the original ‘buff’ logbook, its R Type Bentley Handbook, an article by Bill Medcalf entitled 'R-Type Continentals' and a booklet called ‘Twenty Years of Crewe Bentleys’ . Additionally there is also a letter from Bentley confirming that they would like OYE 700 to be displayed at the factory as part of ‘The Bentley Experience’.The current indicated mileage is 50,893 meaning that the car has only covered just over 300 miles in the last dozen years, however, having been in two prominent collections this is not surprising. It has been looked after undoubtedly, and presents supremely with gleaming paintwork and a gently patinated interior with beige leather, excellent veneers and an unmarked Mulliner headlining. The engine bay is very tidy however as the car hasn't been used for a number of years. Some level of recommissioning is to be expected.This was the first of the Abbott-bodied cars and one can only imagine the sort of attention the 'swoopy' Continental bodywork would have generated back in 1954, matched only by the sort of admiration it would garner in 2023. She was introduced to motorsport shortly after her marriage in 1928 to her second husband Adam Duncan Chetwynd, 9th Viscount Chetwynd of Bearhaven (1904-65). Her early outings were in circuit racing and she was both a regular at Brooklands and Le Mans. She used the nom de course The Honourable Mrs Chetwynd. The earliest records of Joan's racing career appear in 1929, when she set a new twelve-hour Class F speed record at Brooklands, driving a 1500cc Lea-Francis, with an average speed of 82.98 mph. In 1931 Joan was involved in "The Brooklands Society Ladies' Private Handicap", a handicap race for female drivers at the Weybridge circuit, organised by the novelist Barbara Cartland. It was not a genuine race but comprised a series of scenes and amateur driving stunts performed for the benefit of a camera crew. Joan, the only experienced Brooklands racer in the group was scheduled to finish second. The motoring press discovered there was an experienced racing driver present and as a consequence, the participants were lambasted by journalists. Joan defended herself in a letter to The Motor, which stated that she had agreed to take part in a film about motor racing on an anonymous basis. She proceeded to condemn the poor driving standards of the other drivers present in a scathing manner. In 1932 Joan won the Women's Automobile Sports Association Ladies' Handicap at the Guys Gala Meeting, Brooklands, but after 1932, she appears to have concentrated predominately on rallying, achieving considerable success. During the Second World War, she served in the WAAF and didn’t return to competitive motorsport after the war. See lot 5

In 1908 as the “new” Clerk of the Brooklands track he was elected to the Aero Club of Great Britain. He continued as Clerk of the Course for the next 20 years, as well as becoming The Manager of Brooklands Racing Club.The RAC and BARC introduced the first record regulation which were drawn up by Major F. Lindsay Lloyd in his position as Clerk of the Course at Brooklands.
