Spain.- Espinosa de los Monteros (Pablo) [Primera (-Segunda) Parte de la historia antiguedades y grandezas de la muy noble y muy leal Ciudad de Sevilla], first edition, 2 parts in 1 vol., title for vol. 2 only bound at beginning (woodcut device to title & trimmed affecting 'Primera Parte' in manuscript at head), lacking title to vol. 1 & *2 and vol. 2 lacking 4pp. table at end, *1-6 misbound (vol. 1), closely trimmed throughout occasionally affecting headlines, catch-words, signatures or side-notes, water-staining throughout, small holes or loss occasionally affecting text, many ff. with neat old repairs (most marginal), 11 ff. with repairs and missing text supplied in neat manuscript, lacking 12 ff. now supplied in manuscript in a neat hand, occasional manuscript notes in a different hand, spotting, nineteenth-century calf-backed boards, a little rubbed, bumping to corners and extremities, 4to, Seville, Matias Clavijo & Juan de Cabrera, 1627-30; sold not subject to return *** Scarce in retail. The last copy we can find at auction sold in 1977. Though still important, this history of Seville is not accurate as the author included many myths and legends that related to the city.
India.- Survey of India Offices (Trigonometrical Branch) Revised Map of the Upper Oxus Valley with part of Indus Valley, two folding maps, including sheet 1 and 2 conjoined and with the additional sheet map to 1 and 2, photo-zincographed maps, with various annotations and inscriptions, the first map sheet 980 x 1020 mm (38 1/2 x 40 1/4 in) and 830 x 1150 mm (32 3/4 x 45 1/4 in), dissected and mounted on linen, backed with marbled endpanels with manuscript labels, numerous repairs to splitting, heavy surface dirt and signs of use, 4to, 1884 (2)
China.- Chinese School (19th century) Manuscript plan view of a section of the Great Wall and surrounding hill-top fortifications, the text appraently includes a reference to the year 1479, within the decade that construction of the wall commenced, pen and black ink with watercolour, 280 x 440mm., extensive wormholing, laid on paper support, [?19th century]; together with 2 woodblock printed maps of China, the first set between text panels and shows territorial boundaries with their centres highlighted in red, also depicts the Great Wall arching across the top, on two sheets, joined, the map 185 x 270mm., with text panels 185 x 560mm., vertical folds between, laid on paper support; the second describing itself as a map of nations during spring and autumn periods, 205 x 255mm., laid on paper support, [19th century] (3)

'The book of the Mannor of Ventongimps, 1683' Court Book with manuscript entries in latin, dating from 1683. Thirty leaves written in MS mostly to versos, loss and tears to vellum wrap; although in a slightly perilous state, the text block is intact with very readable text, last entry is dated 1691, a rare document. A loft find.The Manorial Document Rules of 1959 apply to this lot. Please enquire for further details.
(Important Cornish manuscript) 'Plans of the whole Parish of Sithney, in Cornwall. 1824' MS survey of parishes in Cornwall, showing field boundaries, with detailed tables of land use. Thirty highly detailed hand drawn maps, twenty of which are in the parish of Sithney, showing coloured field boundaries, numbered with corresponding table; table titles include Field Name, Hedges, Arable & Orchard, Crofts & Waste, Total Statute, Total Cornish Customary, with a statement of tenement and occupier; Other maps titles include Deanery and Hundred of Penwith, Deanery and Hundred of Kirrer, Parish of Sithney, The Deaneries and Hundred's of Pydar and Powder, Deanery of East, Hundred of East, The Hundreds of Stratton and Lesenewth, The Deaneries of Trigg Major & Trigg Minor, Chart of the Scilly Islands, most with corresponding tablic information contemporary to the time; hand written pagination to 335, some blank leaves between maps and areas, contents, index, full red goat with gilt tooled spine and title Plans of Sithney, slightly bumped extremities with a small chip to bottom of front board, marbled endpapers with some offsetting from another work visible, contemporary homemade vellum dj (which this cataloguer took the liberty in cutting strings for access), Bath Superfine paper used throughout with heraldic Prince of Wales fethers blind stamped throughout, some light staining throughout but generally in vg to fine condition, 1824.This is an extraordinary document with considerable information gained and presented for a large area of Cornwall. Although there is no identification as to who created this work, it is clear they were highly skilled in surveying. The numbered field boundaries with corresponding tables are a particular highlight, which offers the reader a wealth of information contemporary to 1824. A loft find in the vendor's new home.

GRAND TOUR SKETCHES: 'Italian Lakes' (so titled to spine), mid-19thc album of pencil sketches, scenes in the Italian lakes, most double-page and with locations identified at lower edge, contained in morocco backed album of period, oblong 8vo: together with a humerous manuscript dated 1865 'A Brief Description of a Tour to the Trossachs and the Scotch Lochs...', much damp soiled in blue cloth covers, 12mo: and another 19thc manuscript with sketches and cartoons. MANUSCRIPT SHIPPING LOG OF A S MORRIS: 3 volumes 1926-29, ms diaries covering journey aboard Royal Navy vessel HMS Veronica on Southern Pacific station, visiting New Zealand, French Polynesia, Fiji and Samoa: they visit Bora-Bora, 'a most godforsaken spot', then Papeete, 'extremely squalid, particularly in the Chinese quarter'. Before arriving at Moorea which does at least meet with Morris's approval, 'a gem of the Pacific'. A few days later arriving at Penrhyn, northernmost of the Cook Islands, 'the centre of the pearl diving industry'. En-route to the Solomon Islands they change course when news comes of unrest...'the natives there are still wild and cannibals, they massacred two whites and fifteen native police last week...'. At the end of October, they arrive at Auckland and remain there for the next year..'the New Zealand cities haven't got much to offer to a visitor in the way of attractions': 3 volumes, small format diaries, two in green cloth and one in red, overall handling wear but generally in good condition.
