Album documenting the 1868 campaign of the British Expeditionary Force against Emperor Theodore, manuscript table of contents with printed heading: "List of Negatives taken in Abyssinia, from Zoulla to Magdala, by the Photographers of the 10th Company, Royal Engineers" (all present), 70 mounted albumen prints comprising 2 three-plate and 2 two-plate panoramas, 37 views and military scenes each c.205 x 255mm., 13 group portraits each c.140 x 190mm., 5 of Coptic manuscripts and other artefacts and 10 reproducing paintings and drawings by Major Bagrie, R.R.Holmes "archaeologist attached to the expedition" and William Simpson the war artist (on behalf of the Illustrated London News), each with a printed title slip pasted below, library blindstamps across one corner of each image, the mounts occasionally dust-stained, later library cloth, oblong folio (320 x 400mm.), 1868. *** The front endpaper is inscribed: "This Series of Photographs has not been published, a few Copies only having been obtainable through the personal interest of Officers of the Regiment".
