Hunting – Isle of Wight manuscript poem probably in the hand of Sir Thomas Worsley (d. 1768) written in doggerel verse and concerning the Isle of Wight Harriers. Written on two sides of a folio sheet a little soiled but clearly legible throughout. Affixed to verso is a press cutting with the text of the poem and a covering letter from the eminent architect Sir Percy Stone explaining that he had just found the ms and providing genealogical information on Worsley and his family.
Diary – The Grand Tour manuscript journal from July 4th 1817 to September 29th 1817 recording a journey through France to Switzerland and then returning through Germany and back into France. Oblong 8vo 182pp text closely written in a spidery and somewhat miniscule hand – thus a considerable amount of text. One page has a close tear but the rest is unblemished and legible throughout. A fascinating diary recording a typical early 19th c ‘Grand Tour’. The entries are exhaustive and cover a wide range of topics including museums cathedrals theatres the poor prison laundry bathing and numerous comments on hotels and the romantic scenery. He mentions Lord Byron and in particular the places in Switzerland which are mentioned in Byron’s poetry. Many other historical figures are mentioned including Charlemagne. A few miniature topographical engravings are stitched to pages as well as a coloured theological plate and a folding hand coloured heraldic plate of the arms of various cities. It is unclear as to the diarist but there is a signature ‘N [or W ?] Kinsey to one end and the name ‘Rev D Harley Chez Collier’ written at the other.
India – Sri Guru Nanak Prakash by Bhai Santokh Singh 1927. Large volume – Hind Press Amritsar 1927. Hardcover. Book Condition fair 1st edition. An important volume of the Guru Nanak Prakash. The Sri Guru Nanak Prakash an epic poem consisting of 9 700 verses deals with the life and teachings of Guru Nanak (completed in 1823). Edition of 500 copies. Starts at pg 770-1260. by the noted Sikh historian Bhai Santokh Singh. Possibly copied from an old Manuscript. Bhai Santokh Singh (8 October 1787 – 19 October 1843) the noted author of six works – Naam Kosh Guru Nanak Parkash Garb Ganjni Teeka Balmik Ramayan Atam Purayan Teeka and his magnum opus Sri Gur Partap Suraj Granth aka Suraj Parkash was born on 8 October 1787. India – Education in India important manuscript dated Guildford May 1846 discussing education in India signed ‘Arthur Macleane’ 32pp 4to. The author would appear to be the Rev Arthur Macleane who was in India with the East India Company before returning to Britain. He was appointed the first Principal of Brighton College from 1846 to 1851. This manuscript is in response to a request from the Church Missionary Society for his opinion on a scheme proposed by the Corresponding Committee in Madras. Macleane’s lengthy reply is based partly on his own experience whilst in Madras.
India – large Delhi & Punjab states map. A 1928 Punjab map outlining the Punjab States published by Survey of India Office Calcutta at scale of I in:32 inches. The coloured map in outline shows various Punjab princely states including Kapurthala Patiala Chamba Bahwalpur etc. Folding map backed with lined. Opens to 20 inches x 24 inches closes in card covers with title in manuscript.
India – Map Road Map of India 1933 – 1:50 miles 1933. Hardcover. A large bound road map of India showing all the road routes in 1933 at scale of 1=50 miles published under the direction of Colonel H J Couchman DSO Officiating Surveyor of India 1933. Folding map opens up to size of 80cm x 100cms coloured in outline and strengthened with buckram backing. Bound in blue cloth binding with title in manuscript on front board. From the library of Sir Conrad Corfield secretary to the Viceroy of Indian 1921-47 with his bookplate to the front pastedown.
* Maxim Gun. A late 19th century promotional album of photographs of the Maxim automatic machine gun, containing twelve b&w photographs of the Maxim Gun in its various forms for use by infantry, artillery or cavalry, each photograph approx. 14.5 x 20 cm (5.75 x 8 ins), with two pages of neat handwritten introductory text in ink to front endpaper, and descriptive caption for each image, contemp. half plum morocco, rubbed and covers a little faded, upper joint cracked, small 4to A technical description of the Maxim Gun, probably for the use of the British Army, almost certainly from the time of its earliest introduction. The Maxim Gun was invented by Sir Hiram Maxim in 1884, and was first used by the Singapore Volunteer Corps in 1889, and by Britain`s Colonial Forces in the 1st Matabele War in Rhodesia 1893-1894. The manuscript introduction is entitled The Maxim Automatic Mitrailleus and its Mountings, and gives details of the weapon`s manufacture and adaptability. (1)

An archive of several hundred letters to Albert Sicot, a prisoner of war in Stalag VIIA from his wife Marcisse in Calvados, written in French, mostly on official forms, together with some related Sicot world war II ephemera, plus an archive of world war II documents relating to W. Zienkowski of Group 20/18 U.S.Z.S./M., including documents completed in manuscript, snapshots, etc., plus a quantity of unrelated ephemera, but including two of Sicot`s canvas paniers with his name labels and used while at the Stalag VIIA giving his number KGF63228 (2 cartons)
WWII - N.S.D.A.P. Assenpolitisches Schulungshaus der N.S.D.A.P., Reichslietung Berlin - Dahlem, Vorlesungsverzeichnis, Wintersemester 1938/39, 36 pp. with printed greeting by Alfred Rosenberg, an overview of this Third Reich foreign policy training school`s course programme, a long list of lectures to be given including on racial politics, all with names of lecturer, the final ten pages being an alphabetical list of lecturers and their ranks, names including Heinrich Himmler, Joachim von Ribbentrop, and Reichsleiter Rosenberg, et al, a few manuscript corrections to title, `strictly confidential` stamp in German to half title, orig. printed upper wrapper with vertical crease and punch holes not affecting text, preserved in modern buckram gilt with bookplate of Mark Dineley to front pastedown, slim 8vo Rare. According to the introduction, this Winter Term course ran from the 1st August 1938 until the 11th February 1939. (1)

A small group of assorted printed and manuscript items including a few letters, forms, ID cards, pensions book, two buttons, a 1946 diary and a small personal notebook purportedly containing pencil signatures of seven Belsen survivors, with a pencil inscription in Polish(?) dated 10th June 1945, plus two damaged posters by Fougasse and H.M. Bateman, both relating to not wasting fuel (approx. 30)
* Air Reconnaissance. Royal Italian Air Force 1916-1918, a fine collection of aerial photographs from the archives of numerous Squadrons serving with various Groups,Squadrons include nos. 2 S.V.A., 2, 10, 12, 13, 23, 27, 31, 86, and others, many images with manuscript notes attached, others with stamps verso including Commando Raggruppamento Squadriglie da Bombardamento, Aviazione per Artiglieria, 7 Gruppo Aeroplani and Laboratorio Fotografico, many signed by Pilot, Observer and Commanding Officer, each image dated, some with overlays others inscribed in white ink to show enemy dispositions, rare images of the airfields of Belluno and St. Giustina, which carefully examined, show hangers, landing strips and parked aircraft, other images show a war-torn shell marked landscape with damaged trench systems and other military sites, approx. 105 images, a map and other ephemera contained in a modern ring binder (a lot)

A. Kemp-Sandifer, 604 Sqdn. to front endpaper, additionally signed by c. 100 former R.A.F. pilots or crewmen to first few leaves, plus C.F. Rawnsley & Robert Wright`s Night Fighter, 1st ed., 1957 (lacking d.j.), a lever arch file containing Rawnsley`s loose typescript of Night Fighter, with corrections and press cuttings, a manuscript account in diary form of a trip to India, via Cairo, 1945, plus Sir Alan Cobham`s A Time to Fly, 1978 Cecil F. Rawnsley, DFM & DFC was observer to Wing Commander John Cunningham, DSO, and together destroyed 14 enemy aircraft in their Bristol Beaufighter, considered the greatest night-fighter team in the RAF during WW2.(4)
WWI - Royal Naval Air Service. Pilot`s flying log book for Flight Sub Lieutenant Herbert Rutter Simms R.N.A.S., 17th August 1915 to 2nd May 1916,twenty-three double page spreads completed in manuscript, aircraft flown include Avro, Curtiss, Bristol, Caudron and Morane biplanes, numerous remarks concerning bad or bumpy landings, engine troubles, etc., good landings beginning in October, patrolling in November and bomb dropping in December and later `Fighting patrol to Ostend. Sighted four submarines. Attacked seaplane on way home. Gun stuck. Got it going & attacked again. When all my ammunition was gone Boche turned away for home` (24th January), `Bombed submarine off Ostend. It just saved itself by diving missed it by seconds` (23rd January), `Fighting patrol to Ypres. Shot a Boche down by Dixmude` (29th February), `Attacked seaplane N.E. of Zeebrugge five miles out to sea, three trays ammunition. Seaplane in plum nose dive & observer jumped out at 3,000 feet. Bombs blew up when machine hit water` (24th April), orig. printed linen boards with name and rank inscribed to upper cover, a little rubbed and soiled, 8vo, together with a contemp. newscutting concerning the death of R.N. Sims, a mimeographed admiralty letter dated 14th May 1916 concerning the same and a three page biography reprinted from `The British Roll of Honour`, orig. printed wrappers, vertical fold, slim 4to Sub-Lieutenant H. R. Sims, R.N., was the eldest son of Alderman D. R. Sims, of Chipping Norton. He was born in 1891 and died of Ostend on 5th May 1916 after being shot down by a German torpedo boat whilst engaging a German aircraft off Ostend. His body was recovered from the sea and buried with full military honours in the cemetery at Chipping Norton. His name lives on through the eponymous Sims Gliders, a number of which he constructed between 1908 and 1910.(4)
WWI - Shoreham No. 3 Reserve Squadron. Pilot`s flying log book for Eliot Archibald De Pass, 4th April 1916 to 19th May 1917,twenty-eight double-page forms entirely in manuscript, noting dates, machines, passengers and remarks, etc., with various Squadrons, both solo and with passengers including Lieutenant Clark, Lieutenant Dixon, Lieutenant Scholdtz, Second Lieutenant A.M. Strugnall, Captain Williams, Major Dimmer VC, et al, machines including BE2D, BE12 and Bristols, note of night flying, then flying to Salonika, Egypt, Heliopolis and similar, taking photographs, patrolling and escorting, plus evidence of conflict, `Patrol & escort to Eaman. Saw the bombardment. Hells own show. No Huns. Ten friendlies all being archied to Hell`, `Big piece of shell through fusilage. Camera jammed whilst taking P3`, `Attacked by Hun. Tail skid hit. No chance of firing back as he opened fire at about 500 yards and then made off`, `Bombing a transport park two miles west of Demir Hissar. Archi plentiful but wild. Had 8, 20 lbs on board. Hit with 6` and `Bombing same place. Hit will all 8 bombs. A piece of Archi broke a shape rib in top left mainplane`, (39 & 40 Recon.), and on the 44th Reconnaissance `Escort to Lt. Scott who was looking for a landing ground near Drama. On way out saw an Albatross which did not attack. At 3,000 feet was attacked by a Scout & hit in 13 places. After a fight of 5 mins, he sheared off & attacked Scott who eventually bought him down. Landed at Kukos for repairs. Went up after a Hun, but engine missing & had to come down`, small portrait photo of De Pass from an official form tipped in to title-page, orig. stiff wrappers, some edge wear, 8vo De Pass has pasted a small news cutting portrait of Lieutenant F.A. De Pass to the front pastedown. It is not clear whether the two are related, but Lieutenant Frank De Pass (whose father was Sir Eliot De Pass) became the first Jewish soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross in the First World War. He was killed in action in February 1915. The small photo portrait from a form in this log book notes that Eliot Archibald De Pass of 23 Queensgate Terrace, London, SW7, was born on 10th December 1892. (1)
* ñHandley Page Bombers over Windsor Castleî, an original painting depicting a pair of Handley Page large bombers over the river Thames with Windsor Castle backdrop, c. 1918,watercolour on paper, indistinctly signed (part covered by mount), in original frame bearing ñBoots Framersî label, and further bearing hand-manuscript caption in black ink inscribed ñWhen driving to London from Cheltenham in 1920, I was hailed by an undergraduate near oxford. I gave him a lift to London. He told me he hoped to sell some of his watercolours there, so I bought this one off him. The machine is a Handley Page over Windsor Castleî and signed initialled ñB.C.Mî, 12 x 24 in (30 x 60 cm) (1)

A period scale-model of the famous blockbuster bomb weapon, designed by Dr. Barnes Wallace, c.1940s,of painted hardwood with lead-weighted and balanced trim, mounted for presentation upon a polished oak display stand, having applied brass plaque inscribed ñTallboyî (Medium) 12,000lb 1/20th Scale, suggesting possible use as a wind-tunnel or aerodynamic testing, together with a headed manuscript postcard from the late Air-Vice Marshall Gerald Combe CB, with annotated details of the weapon and the targets it was designed for, including the raids against the Flying-Bomb & V-Rocket sites in France and the bombing of the German Battleship ñTirpitzî in Norway - believed a gift-memento from the designer to Combe (1)
A VR Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to William Santillo Coxwain 1st Class H.M.S. Defiance, together with a manuscript draft of the recipient’s memoirs, a bosun’s call, and an occasional table with applied metal decoration in the form of ship outlines commemorating the collision between H.M.S. Victoria and H.M.S. Camperdown. Santillo served on H.M.S. Amphion, which was part of the formation.
AN MS. ETHIOPIC PSALTER, with painted illustrations to endpp. ms. on vellum. 4to. bound in dec. leather covered wooden boards. With a letter of identification from The Bodleian Library. "The Colophon says that the manuscript belonged to the Lady Zenash Bezu, wife of Master Desta, written during the reign of Menelik (1889-1913)" (see illustration)

Cyprian Southack` appointing him in command of the `Turky Friggott` [probably the Turkey Frigate], with remnant of seal (torn and neatly repaired affecting the text, some browning and soiling, small holes at folds).
