4° (221x156 mm). Tassoni dedicated his entire life to edit this work, which he considered the first treatise in Italian tongue to have dealt with scientific and astronomical matters. Even if the geocentrical model of the solar system is defended by Tassoni, the work found a place in Galileo's library.

De Batines, I, p. 85; Mambelli, n. 32; Adams D, 96; Gamba, 388; Brunet II, 503.16° (125x75 mm). Marginalia. The first Commedia 'officially' published in France, after the Aldine counterfeit of 1502/03 issued by Baldassarre da Gabiano and Balthazar Troth. The volume was printed in Lyon, a city which had a large Italian population, and at the time represented a lively market for the vernacular Italian literature. The merchand and refined printer Jean de Tournes himself had published in 1545 the first French edition of Petrarch's Canzoniere. Like the Petrarch, also the 1547 Dante is dedicated by him to the 'italophile' poet Maurice Scève (1502-1564 ca.), a renowned protagonist of the Lyonnais Renaissance, well-known for having discovered Laura's tomb in Avignon. In his preface de Tournes promotes his editorial initiative, and presents the Dante as a natural 'completion' to the Petrarch, two books that will allow to the readers to appreciate both the suavity of the Canzoniere and the asperity of the Commedia. Albeit its reduced size, this edition is praised for the elegance of its layout, the handsome initials, and the clearness of the type employed. Each canto presents brief argumenta, and sholuder notes taken, in reduced form, from Landino's commentary printed firstly in 1481. The last leaves contain the Summario di la vita di Dante), equipped by the epitaph written by Dante himself for his sepulchre at Ravenna, and the verses later composed by Bernardo Bembo.
Dante Alighieri. Giambullari Pier Francesco. Lezzioni... lette nella Accademia fiorentina. Firenze, [Lorenzo Torrentino], 1551.In-8° (mm 160x102). Segnatura: A-K8. 157, [3 bianche] pagine. Capilettera silografici ornati. Collation: A-K8. 157, [3 blank] pages. Woodcut of the Medici coat-of-arms on the title-page. Full-page woodcut engraving of the author's portrait on verso of the title-page, set within a double-rule border (border is slightly trimmed). Woodcut decorated initials. Seventeenth-century stiff vellum, flat spine with gilt title on brown lettering-piece, panels with a central blind-stamped lozenge framed within double blind-ruled fillet, gauffred edges. Some light foxing and staining, as expected, but a good copy. Later manuscript note on the back flyleaf listing Giambullari's works.First edition of the first work to contain all four Dante lectures given by Pier Francesco Giambullari between 1541 and 1548. The first two lectures had already appeared in the collection Lettioni d'Academici fiorentini sopra Dante, printed in 1547 by Anton Francesco Doni. Giambullari, a founding member of the Accademia Fiorentina, was a champion of Florentine culture. In contrast with Bembo and his followers, he sought to validate not only contemporary Florentine language, but also Dante (in opposition to Petrarch). Already in 1538, he had begun writing a commentary on the Commedia, although this never progressed beyond the first canto. Six years later, he published a small treatise on the size and location of the Inferno. It was particularly for his lectures, however, that Giambullari's reputation as a Dante commentator raised to the point that his fellow members of the Accademia Fiorentina started referring to him as the "moderno espositore" ('modern commentator'). The present volume contains the Lezzione prima, nel consolato di m. Giovanni Strozzi. Batista Gelli. De l'ordine dello universo [Paradise, canto 29]. Giambullari's portrait, printed here for the first time, was later reissued without the border, probably due to its being judged disproportioned with respect to the figure and the page (cf. G. Zappella, Il ritratto nel libro italiano del Cinquecento, Milan, 1988, I, p. 251).

Enciclopedia Treccani). Bersano-Begey I, 401 e 402. [42418] Panigarola Francesco. Woodcut ornament on the title-page, woodcut head- and tailpieces. Light foxing, few leaves slighlty waterstained to the margins, title-page and some leaves slightly soiled, one plate trimmed (the others are wide-margined). Vellum over pasteboards; covers slightly soiled. Manuscript ownership inscription on the title-page, dated 1820.Rare festival book describing the magnificent wedding of Cosimo III de Medici (1642-1723) with Marguerite Luoise d'Orleans (1645-1721), occurred the 20th June 1661. The wonderful copper-engraved plates, by Stefano Della Bella (1610-1664), show in detail this sumptous performance, based on the figure of the giant Atlas, and animated by the cavalcade with Sun and Moon charriots and by the parade of the knights symbolizing the different continents. The coreograhpy of the fight and the ballet is also illustrated in one of the plate. The organization was assigned to Alessandro Carducci (coreographer of the ballet; his name is printed on the plates and at p. 66), Giovanni Andrea Moniglia (1624-1700; author of the poetic texts; his name at p. 60) and Ferdinando Tacca (1619-1686; architect and scenographer). This performance was the last one organized inside Boboli Amphitheatre near Palazzo Pitti. Manoscritto. [17th Century, second half].Manuscipt on 17th-century paper (168x115 mm). [8], 38 (with 1 not numbered leave between pages 6 and 7), [11] leaves, due to two different hands. Some waterstains and foxing, slightly browned. Wallett binding, contemporary limp vellum (from a 15th-century manuscript with ink red initials), 'wallett binding'). Ink title on the spine 'Liber secretorum Equarum' and (on the rear cover) 'Secreti per Mali de cavalli' e Libro de Rogatione ?.Interesting manuscript, written on 16th-century paper, containing - starting from leaf 9 - many useful informations to treat the 'mali de cavalli' (horses' diseases), listed inside the manuscripted Tavola (index) on the final 5 carte laves (the last one is blank). This part of the manuscript is well organized for a concrete consultation: leaves are numbered from 1 to 38, with addition of one unnumbered leaf showing the drawing of horse's legs, and the final Tavola serves as index, listing the number of leaf where each Rimedio (remedy) can be found. The treatise deals with different deseases and illnesses, not only serious disabilities but also secondary problems as the mouth wounds due to the hay. The remedy against fever, using honey and cinnamon, is similar to the one quoted by Marsand in I manoscritti Italiani della Regia Bibliotheca Parigina, descritti ed illustrati, I, n. 7735 (Paris, 1835), describing a 16-17th-century Italian manuscript containing Rimedi et Secreti di medicina for the 'malattie de' cavalli'. The first part of the manuscript is, , in addition to paleographical analysis, a very useful element to fix the date: it contains many buying and selling dated from 1536 to 1572 and suggests Central Italy (Umbria?) as place of origin.
