A Pair of 17th Century Bronze Candlesticks converted to lamps. The sockets above knopped baluster stems leading down to a low hexagonal drip trays cast with winged angel heads, above flared octagonal bases raised on small feet, 12 ins (31 cms) in height, wired for electric 16 ins (41 cms) overall height.
A Rare & Important 17th Century Oak & Tortoiseshell Month Running Long Case Clock. The 10½ ins (27 cms) brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved with Roman numerals counting the hours and an outer ring of Arabic minute markers, encircling a matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and ornate pierced hands centred by rosette engraving. The base of the dial having a moon roller above inscribed banner 'Johannes van Cuelen Hage' flanked by a calendar ring on one side and day of the week on the other (Johannes van Cuelen, The Hague; A founding member of The Hague Clockmakers Guild, Circa 1688). The tortoiseshell veneered hood with architectural pediment surmounted by gilt bronze figures and adornments, edged in ebony moulding. The oak trunk with moulded strapwork fashioned into voluted scrolls and incorporating panels of tortoiseshell and ebony with a glazed oval aperture to the centre. Standing on a moulded base with ball feet, 91 ins (231 cm) high.[Provenance: Ex Count Limburg-Stirum].
A Large 18th Century French Bronze Mortar with dark green patination. The ring moulded body with two cast head handles protruding either side and a small cast fleur-de-lis emblem, and oval foundry stamp with a bell encompassed by name Jacques Ducray. The decorative rim band incorporating date L'AN 1737, ST.P, 10¼ ins (26 cms) high, 13¼ ins (34 cms) in diameter.
A Yoruba Bronze Head of Ife. This casting created using the lost wax method. The lined face possibly representative of either decorative scars or a type of veil that was attached to the crown of the subject. The piece originated from Nigeria and measures approx. 22 ins (56 cm) tall, 8 ins (20 cm) wide and 9 ½ ins (24 cm) deep.
A Large & Impressive Italian Bronze Mortar dated 1798. The protuberant knop handles cast with face mask terminals. The frieze ornamented with relief cast floral sprigs, a cockerel, lobster, prancing lion and a centurion between decorative rim and foot bands incorporating text; NE TE DOMINE SPERAVI INDUSTRIA ET LABORE . JOANNIS CLAUDIL SONGEON to the top and LUDOVICUS LEONARD FECIT ANNO MDCCIXVIII to the base. 12 ins (31 cms) high, 15 ins (38 cms) in diameter.
A Bronze devotional Figure of Death with interesting provenance, Italian, late 17th c., the figure shown standing with sickle above skulls and crossed bones: Provenance: branch of the ancient Italian family of Pignatelli. (Antonio Pignatelli, Innocent XII, was pope between 1691 and 1700. He promoted devotional objects such as the Rosary and the Sacred Heart), 4 1/4'' high
