A CHINESE POWDER BLUE AND GILT DECORATED VASE WITH ORMOLU MOUNT, 18/19TH CENTURY. The hexagonal vase decorated with figures and landscape scene. Later mounted with gilt bronze stand and handles with female masks and square form scroll handles. 34cm tall.Wear in places to gilt decoration on vase. Loose handle to one side.

A CHINESE BRONZE SNUFF BOTTLE, 19/20TH CENTURY. Heavily cast of flattened ovoid form with figures in relief above a band of lappets with clouds and stylised dragons above. Indecipherable mark to base. With silk box. 7.2cm tall. Total weight 274 grams.Cover fussed to bottle and unable to remove.
A PAIR OF CHINESE / JAPANESE BRONZE GU SHAPED BEAKERS, 19TH CENTURY OR EARLIER. Each cast in archaic style with flanges to each section decorated in relief with stylised dragons and lappets on a key fret ground. Part of a mark visible to one base probably reading Xuande. Each mounted on a gilt bronze base with separate gilt liners. 16.5cm tall. (2)Hole to the base of one beaker. The other beaker base covered by resin or glue.

‡ AFTER JEAN DE BOULOGNE, CALLED GIAMBOLOGNA, (1529-1608), A LARGE CONTINENTAL PATINATED BRONZE MODEL OF MERCURY LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY Characteristically portrayed wearing a winged petasus and sandals, and holding his caduceus, held aloft on the breath of Zephyrus, 190cm high, 100cm wide overall ‡ UK import VAT at the reduced rate (currently 5%) The Mercury is one of the most famous and replicated works of the Renaissance, but was originally intended by Giambologna to be viewed on its own and importantly, from all sides -thoroughly in line with his Mannerist ideals. It was only in the 19th century that casts after the original model were offered for sale as pairs, the Mercury more usually being allied with Fortuna, but sometimes with Iris, and more rarely with Fame (Pheme in Greek, Fama to the Romans). Giambologna's original bronze of 1580 was first installed at the Villa Medici in Rome, being positioned at the order of Ferdinando de Medici atop a fountain which formed a focal point on the formal staircase between the sumptuous gardens and the loggia entrance to the Villa In 1780 the Mercury was moved to the Uffizi Museum, and then finally in 1865, to the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence.Mercury is the god of trade and is a symbol of the Exchange in the Netherlands, a similar model to the present lot adorns the gallery over the trading floor Beursplein 5 in the Berlage Stock Exchange, Amsterdam, keeping a watchful eye on the traders below Condition Report: Some signs of surface wear to the patina from handling and use, this includes to areas such as the calf, right side of the flank, elbows, etc. The right feather to his helmet is loose.
