ROBERT CLATWORTHY R.A. [1928-2015]. Dog 1, 1966. bronze, edition of 8, 4/8; signed RC. 26 cm long. Provenance: The artist; Private collection, UK. According to the great art critic David Sylvester, he was the greatest sculptor he had seen since Henry Moore. Hanover Gallery, perhaps the greatest gallery in Europe in the 1950s, took on Clatworthy straight out of art college in 1953, in preference to Frink [they studied together at Chelsea School of Art] !
