A matching centrepiece and additional links, previously removed, with a maiden holding a gem aloft and articulated pendant drop below CONDITION REPORT: Light surface scratches throughout with minor losses to the enamel.The extra links have more of the original gilding intact.The centrepiece has areas of tarnish, pendant drop deficient. Remnants in the cap suggest the drop may have been lapis lazuli.

Brasilia Excellent map of the eastern part of Brazil based on the cartography of Hessel Gerritsz and an earlier map by Blaeu. There is extensive detail in the coastal regions with the interior left largely blank except for some conjectural river systems, including the mythical Parime Lago in Guiana and Xarayes Lago in Brazil. The Linea Aequinoctialis is prominently shown dividing the Spanish and Portuguese colonial claims. Richly embellished with rhumb lines, compass roses and sailing ships. European traders, Indians and putti surround the title and scale of miles cartouches. A dark impression with attractive color on watermarked paper. There are professional repairs to a few small worm holes and a centerfold separation confined to bottom blank margin. Foederatas Finely engraved and beautiful map of Holland with two insets of the Dutch commercial empire in America and Southeast Asia. The first is of Niew Neederland, the Dutch colony in present-day New York, and includes a miniature view of New Amsterdam (New York City). The other is of the East Indies with a similar view of the Dutch trading capital of Batavia (Jakarta). Another inset in the opposite corner details the Maas River valley. The map is filled with great detail. Neptune, putti, and mermaids surround the large title cartouche. A dark impression with bold color and light soiling. Tiny depictions of windmills surround the city. A compass rose orients north to the bottom right of the sheet. [Lot of 2] A Correct Chart of the West Coast of Africa, Engraved for Malham`s Naval Gazetteer [and] A Correct Chart of the Southern Coasts of Africa, from the Equator to the Cape of Good Hope. Engraved for Malham`s Naval Gazetr. This pair of charts covers the majority of Africa and the oceans that surround the continent. On both charts there are plenty of place names along the coasts and virtually no inland information. The oceans include compass roses topped with fleurs-de-lis and are crossed with rhumb lines. Both were engraved by Neele for Rev. John Malham (1747-1821), a writer and teacher of navigation, for Malham`s The Naval Gazetteer; or, Seaman`s Complete Guide. A. A Correct Chart of the West Coast of Africa, Engraved for Malham`s Naval Gazetteer, (7.6 x 9.4""). This chart spans from southern Portugal and Spain down to the Gulf of Guinea. Several islands are located including Corsica, Sardinia, Madeira, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde. The Sahara Desert is here called Zahra or Desert of Barbary. Condition: Issued folding with minor offsetting and some light soiling concentrated along the top fold at right. There is toning along the sheet`s edges.B. Madagascar is prominently displayed, and several smaller islands in the Indian Ocean are located. A note in present-day Mozambique refers to ""Cannibals."" There appears to be a large lake with an incomplete border called Massi where Lake Malawi is located. The South Atlantic Ocean is here referred to as Ethiopic Ocean. Africa Nuova Tavola This ""new"" map of the southern part of Africa includes some unusual cartography. It is based on Gastaldi`s map of 1548. The continent is very broad and the source of the Nile is shown in three lakes, instead of the normal two. Madagascar, Isola de S. Lorenzo, is oddly shaped and surround by smaller islands. It is engraved in the typical Italian style with stippled sea, wide rivers and anthill-like mountains. Typus Orbis Terrarum This is Bertius` second miniature world map. It is a double hemisphere based on Mercator`s famous world map with several updates by Jodocus Hondius. Terra Australis Incognita fills the Southern Hemisphere and connects to New Guinea in the region of Australia. Mercator`s Northwest Passage and interesting polar islands have been replaced with a non-descript landmass. The eastern coast of Asia has been revised to include a Korean Peninsula. The map is richly decorated in a strapwork surround with the cartographer`s name boldly engraved below the map. French text on verso. A fine impression and attractive color on watermarked paper.
