A VICTORIAN GOLD AND BLACK ENAMEL MEMORIAL BANGLE FOR MARQUESS CONYNGHAM the centre locket compartment with a miniature portrait of Francis Conyngham, 2nd Marquess Conyngham, within a surround of black enamel mounted with turquoise set flowerheads and with a coronet, locket compartment to the reverse containing hair and inscribed Blessed Father died 17th July 1876 The Marquess of Conyngham, internal measurements 5.5 x 6.2, 80.2 grams. Francis Nathaniel Conyngham, 2nd Marquess Conyngham (1797-1876) was born in Dublin, the second son of General The 1st Marquess Conyngham and Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph Denison. He gained the courtesy title of Earl of Mount Charles in 1824 on the early death of his unmarried elder brother. He was returned to Parliament for Westbury in 1818 and later represented Donegal between 1825-1831. He served under the Earl of Liverpool as Under-Secretary for State for Foreign Affairs between 1823 and 1826 and under Liverpool, George Canning, Lord Goderich and the Duke of Wellington as a Lord of the Treasury between 1826 and 1830. In 1834 he joined the Whig government of Lord Melbourne as Postmaster General. He was also Vice-Admiral of Ulster between 1849 and 1876 and Lord Lieutenant of County Meath between 1869 and 1876.
