A rare Regency Gothic revival gilt brass and ebonised miniature wall timepiece Thomson, Edinburgh, early 19th century The four-pillar single train movement with long pendulum and standing barrel wound via a pulley linked to a pull cord and dummy weight hanging below the clock, the 2 inch single-sheet silvered brass Roman numeral dial signed Thomson, PRINCES STREET within a chased gilt brass Gothic arch surround with pierced concave sided gabled pediment with foliate surmount flanked by spire finials, the case with grotesque dog’s mask decorated moulded under-brackets, 14cm high. Several makers with the surname Thomson are recorded as working in Edinburgh during the early 19th century however this clock was most likely supplied by either John Thomson who is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working 1794-1814 or Archibald Thomson 1794-1836.

Guanella, Bristol to centre, within a brass bezel and marquetry panel decorated octagonal surround above fan carved ears flanking brass edged shaped lenticle to the drop trunk with rounded base incorporating pendulum adjustment flap, the salt-box type case with door to right-hand side, 72cm high.. Augustine Guanella is recorded in Moore, A.J. The Clockmakers of Bristol 1650-1900 as working circa 1820-40.

A William III walnut and arabesque marquetry eight-day longcase clock Peter Garon, London, circa 1700. The five finned pillar (centre latched) outside countwheel bell-striking movement with 12 inch square brass dial with scroll engraved calendar aperture, subsidiary seconds dial and ringed winding holes to the matted centre, within an applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with Arabic five minutes, stylised sword hilt half hour markers and signed Peter Garon, London to lower edge, the angles with twin cherub and crown cast spandrels within a herringbone border to edge, the case with foliate fret to the moulded entablature above scroll inlaid hood door with integral columns, the trunk with decorated throat moulding above rectangular lenticle centred trunk door profusely inlaid with scrolling foliage and strapwork within conforming surround, the plinth with ogee top moulding and conforming marquetry panel within laurel border, on moulded skirt base, 216cm high. Peter Garon is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as being admitted to the Clockmakers Company in 1687. He worked firstly from St Bartholomew’s Lane and later St Giles, Cripplegate and was declared bankrupt in 1709. Two clocks of the same marquetry pattern are illustrated in Bruton, Eric The Wetherfield Collection of Clocks page 165 (Joseph Windmills) and 179 (Jonathan Lowndes). Both of these examples have caddy upstands, however the construction of the hood and profile of the cornice mouldings suggests that the current Lot was supplied in its current form.
A William III walnut and marquetry eight-day longcase clock William Jackson, London, circa 1695 The five finned pillar inside countwheel bell-striking movement with 12 inch square brass dial with foliate border engraved calendar aperture, ringed winding holes and subsidiary seconds dial to the matted centre, within an applied Roman numeral chapter ring with Arabic five minutes, stylised fleur de lys half hour markers and signed William Jackson to lower edge, the angles with applied Indian mask and scroll cast spandrels, in a case with moulded cornice and fretwork frieze above integral pilasters to the floral marquetry inlaid hood door, with conforming decoration to the convex throat moulding and long trunk door further inlaid with birds and mythical figures amongst flowering foliage on an ebony ground, the door surround with scrolling foliage, the sides divided into panels, the plinth base with conforming marquetry continuing on the moulded skirt base, 221cm high.
A VICTORIAN MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK having a circular steel dial signed Maple London, with engraved ribbon swag decoration and Westminster Whittington chime enclosed by a convex glazed door with carved acanthus surround, the case with scroll and gadrooned decoration, moulded panel base and bracket feet, with three brass weights and pendulum, 6 ft 8" high overall, dial 12 1/2" diameter.
