(121.75 x 45cm.), 56in. (412.25cm.) high.
Royal Air Force Irvin Flying Jacket and Flying Helmet Grouping Attributed to New Zealand Battle of Britain Fighter Pilot, P/O Owen “Okey” Edward Lamb 151 Squadron, Later Killed in Action in North Africa with 73 Squadron, grouping consists of his original wool lined two panel back Irvin Flying Jacket. The jacket is named to the reverse under the collar in black ink “P/O OKEY LAMB”, zip cuffs and 9 vents under the armpits. Jacket has lower loops but the belt is missing. Tab for the collar fastener is still present. Jacket shows evidence of service wear and has some period field repairs. Accompanying the jacket is his original B-Type flying helmet with zipped ear cups and leather straps to the reverse. Interior of the helmet has the original Air Ministry size label and is also inked “OKEY LAMB” and “OKEY”. The helmet remains in very good condition showing just signs of light service wear. RCAF MK III Flying Goggles complete with the original strap with stamped store numbers 22C/13 and 1940. Goggles are complete with the original lenses and leather surround. The goggle strap is inked with the initials “O.L”. Born in Auckland, New Zealand on 10th May 1917. Early in 1939 he applied for an RAF short service commission and was provisionally accepted. He sailed for the UK on 6th May 1939 on RMS Rangitane. He commenced elementary flying training at 10 E&RFTS, Yatesbury and in late August moved to 2 FTS, Brize Norton. With his training completed Lamp was posted to 7 AGS, Newton Down in February 1940 for a gunnery course, after which he went to 6 OTU, Sutton Bridge and converted to the Hurricane fighter aircraft. On 13th April 1940 Lamb began a Specialist Armaments Officers Course at No1 Air Armaments School at Manby. He went to 5 OTU, Aston Down on August 31st for Hurricane refresher course and joined 151 Squadron in mid September, flying the Hurricane Fighter on sorties during the Battle of Britain. In November 1940 Lamb volunteered for overseas service and joined 73 Squadron at Debden. The Squadron embarked for the Middle East on HMS Furious on the 10th November 1940. On arrival in the Western Desert the Squadron was attached to 274 Squadron until January 1941 when 73 Squadron became operational on its own account. On 14th April 1941 the Luftwaffe mounted a heavy attack against Tobruk with a force of more than ninety bomber and fighter aircraft. On this day 73 Squadron was operating in the perimeter defences and were scrambled with the orders to engage the enemy. Pilot Officer Lamb failed to return from this sortie, his body was later found and buried in an isolated grave near the Tobruk-Bardia road. After the war Lamb’s remains were re-interred in the Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma Libya. A rare and fantastic grouping to “One of the Few” who defended England against the might of the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain and later paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat. These were the actual items of flying clothing that Pilot Officer Lamb wore during the Battle of Britain.
Royal Air Force Officers Inter War Parade Dress Busby, leather covered shell with seal fur surround, knotted gold bullion cords with blue flecks. Fitted with an incorrect gilt metal NCO’s badge as opposed to the correct pattern badge for these busby’s. Fine officers ostrich feather plume with gilt metal ring. Interior has leather sweatband and partial artificial crimson silk lining. Patent leather chinstrap still present. Fur remains in very good condition and does the leather covering. Overall a good example.

An 18ct white gold necklace with diamond heart centrepiece and interchangeable pink sapphire and diamond centrepiece, the ropetwist necklace composed of fine 18ct gold wire forming a softly flexible torque with bayonet terminations that snap into housings in each of the two alternate centrepieces, London laser hallmark, 2016; the first centrepiece a fringed heart motif, with a central heart cut diamond within an open rose gold surround pavé set with round brilliant cut diamonds, and an outer open heart of white gold similarly pavé set, and suspending a graduated and articulated fringe of collet set diamonds; width and length of heart feature 3.2 and 5.1cm; the maker, Dawson of Stamford Ltd, state that the heart cut diamond weighs 0.28cts, and that the total diamond weight including that is 2.73cts; length 48cm; the alternative centrepiece is a gently asymmetric white gold heart spiral, slightly tilting as it curls, the outer edge set with a line of small round cut pink sapphires becoming lighter in colour, then interspersed with and finally replaced by similar diamonds, the spiral continuing as a square-edged line with brushed textured finish, London laser hallmark for 18ct gold 2005, width and length 3.0 and 2.9cm; the whole in a presentation case

A 19th century Continental foiled hardstone brooch and pendant, the principal stone a cushion triangular cabochon claw set in a closed back red foiled setting, with a pierced cast and carved scrolling foliate and bead surround, the pendant drop en suite with a pear shaped cabochon stone; brooch clasp with safety catch, pendant with balancing pin, joining link later; length 7.0cm. Due to the settings it has not been possible to test the stones sufficiently to identify the mineral, though they are definitely not paste (too high in both hardness and RI); the unmarked yellow precious metal tests for 18ct gold
