Turkey.- Mayer (Luigi) Views in the Ottoman Empire, chiefly in Caramania..., first edition, titles and text in English and French, 24 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates, old ink inscription "CDMS" at head of French title, bookplates of Maj.-Gen. Sharpe of Hoddam Castle and CDMS/Sir W.J., an excellent copy in contemporary half diced russia, rebacked preserving old gilt spine, small paper label "Library Hugh E.Strickland 1853" at foot, corners repaired, [Atabey 787; Blackmer 1098; Colas 2021; cf.Abbey, Travel 369], folio, 1803 [plates water-marked 1801].⁂ Caramania refers to the southern coast of Turkey. Spode used some of Mayer's plates as the model for their 'Caramania' dinner service.
