SPODE; an early 19th century (c1814) ornithological dessert service comprising four hexagonal-sided plates and a shaped oval dish, each plate depicting a bird in country setting, the pale blue border decorated with white relief floral pattern and groups of painted feathers, the reverse hand marked with the name of the bird, including 'Whinchat', 'Willow Wren', 'Grey Wagtail', 'Jay', 'Female Goosander', also marked with the pattern number 1979, one marked 'N1979', no factory stamp, but listed as illustration no.197 in the Leonard Whiter Spode reference book (5). CONDITION REPORT The four plates have possible tiny rim chips where spring hangers were attached. All of the plates and dishes have some wear to the gilding and to the decoration. Possible tiny nibbles to the foot rim. The colours are good under a UV light.
A quantity of decorative plates to include two Quimper plates, both hand painted, one with image of young woman picking flowers surrounded by floral border, the other a huntsman in forest with a blue sponge glazed frill rim, initialled to base 'HR', a Spode Bloom collection floral plate, two other plates, an Murano oval decorative glass bowl, two other red glass retro items, a crested ware military tank, Art Deco Royal Stafford plates of various sizes, a decorative gilded hare, a Gibson's teapot in original packaging, a plafonnier, and a decorative pair of kittens.
