The cups with gilded double griffon handles flared rim and inverted foot, matching elements London decorated all round with band of garden flowers and roses to a chocolate and pink background, within a gilt dentil border8.8cms highprivate collection north west EnglandCondition report:Comments: a very fine and rare pair of cabinet cups, unrestored or damaged, wear especially to gilt rim of saucer, but overall very fineLater Note: since our initial cataloguing an opinion has been made attributing the cups to Spode. Our attribution to Nantgarw was based on the shapes of the cups, particularly the design / moulding of the handles. However, similar modelling was used by Spode and there are records of matching decoration for Spode (and possibly Coalport) tableware. We have therefore reduced the estimate to reflect this new information and the possible uncertainty of the manufacture. However, the quality of decoration and translucency of porcelain is in line with Nantgarw.
