Collection of paper documents, some with seals, the majority 17th c, all relating to the history of the mansion house in Broad Street in the parish of St. Peter the Poor, a number signed or mentioning members of the Cokayne family, also a group of early printed receipts with manuscript insertions of taxes paid on the house, towards the upkeep of the armies and navies at the time of Oliver Cromwell. This became known as "Cokayn House" and it was here that James I knighted William Cokayne in 1616, the house being demolished in 1907. (approx 35)

St. Lucia 1881 Postal Fiscal Stamp 'SHILLING STAMP', orange, with the surcharge variety 'SHILDING' for 'SHILLING' officially corrected with the use of red ink. Tied by the St. Lucia code 'C' date-stamp of 11 December 1896 on a small envelope registered to Barbados. Oval-framed 'R', manuscript reference number '7559' and Barbados arrival date-stamp on the reverse. Some envelope creasing but good appearance and rare. When purchased from Stanley Gibbons Ltd., it was stated that only two examples had been recorded. Stanley Gibbons No. F4b variety.

A very early manuscript letter discussing horse racing, dated 17th March 1627, a letter from Sir Henry Babington to Sir Edward Radclyffe at Dilston: 'Being presently to goe to London, and to collect the mony for the horserase, for Sir Jhon Fenwicke, whose yeare it is to bring in the plate, I have sent this bearer my man to yow first: being the worthyest benefactor to our country sports; with the note of al the founders nams, to set a cross before every ons name, that hath payd ...' subscribed with receipt 'Received by me Robt Butcher servant to Sr Henry Bavington kt the sum of five pounds from the hands of Sir Edward Radcliffe Bar. for the contribucion amongst other gentlemen to the horserace at Killingworth payable yearly during the pleasure of the said Sr: Edward and this years collected by Sir Henry Bavington:' 18th March 1627 with the mark of Robert Butcher. The hand that wrote the wording of the receipt (not Butcher who was unable to sign his name) has added on the address panel: 'Sr. Edward Radcliffe Bar. 5 Sr. John Fenwicke kt 5 Sr. 5 Sr. William Selby kt 5 Mr William Widdrington 5' The letter is also endorsed by Sir Edward Radclyffe, including '5 paide: E:R'

Molesworth Royal Munster Fusiliers, From October 14th to December 26th 1914" commencing "Received orders to proceed to front from Depot Tralee at 2.AM and gives daily notes from then, through action near Ypres and concludes December : "22nd At 6.30 am ordered to make an attack at dawn and drive the enemy out of their trenches at any cost....got up to about 200 yds and were ordered to charge, met a tremendous fire from the enemy which mowed us down, and we were forced to retire..." "Captain Pemberton Killed, and Lieut Young and Capt Pakenham wounded in the chest, Maj J. in the leg, Major Day in the Knee. I went out to try and get him back to us, crawling along when I was wounded in the left ankle.." he then made his way back meeting 2 stretcher bearers who took him to the Sikh field ambulance, and in turn back to Bethune, 24th December at Boulogne hospital, 25th December "...received the king's Xmas card also Princess Mary's present".
