The fortress was captured from Ottoman rule by the Venetians at the end of the 17th cenuty The siege of Santa Maura took place on 21st July – 6th August 1684 and was the opening battle of the sixth Ottoman-Venetian war.

Pianta e Propetto occidentale di Corfu, fatto di comando..., Francesco Grimani Proveditor General da Mar con Autorita di Capitan General da Giuest Emilio Alberghetti, 1705, pen, ink and watercolour plan of the fortifications of Corfu with a watercolour panorama of the town and harbour set at right angles in the vertical border, appears to have a thin layer of varnish over the image, some surface creasing and water staining, some marginal closed tears and fraying, 425 x 675 mm (Qty: 1)The Provveditore Generale da Mar was the supreme commander of the Venetian fleet in peacetime. In wartime, he was replaced by the Capitano Generale da Mar, with more ample powers. The office usually had a tenure of three years, but in wartime, the nomination of a new Capitano Generale da Mar was usually accompanied also by the election of a new Provveditore Generale. From the first half of the 16th century, he also appears as the governor of the Venetian Ionian Islands. Eventually this appointment became regularized, as the Provveditore Generale del Levante; with his seat at Corfu, the Provveditore Generale da Mar was the senior civil and military governor of the Ionian Islands in peacetime. The office was abolished after the fall of the Republic of Venice and the start of French rule in the Ionian Islands in June 1797

Henderson, in a 1756 number of the General Evening Post ; one copy of Henderson's edition is found in libraries (Lamar University, Texas), and one in auction records, in 2011; the present 1758 edition and all other such editions as may have appeared are untraced in commerce. Maclean's entry was based on a bookseller's catalogue (Birrell and Garnet) and she does not appear to have inspected a copy herself, citing none in the British Isles or North America, an occurrence only 'in a minority of cases' (p. xxiii); her reproduction of one of the woodcuts, at p. xi, is from the Leeds copy of the 1760 edition.

A 19th century percussion cap Officer's pistol by L Hollis & Sons:, previously the property of Prince Azim Etenadi, grandson of the last King of Afghanistan, the plain 8 inch barrel with foresight and stirruped steel ramrod, engraved sidelock action signed as per title, brass trigger guard and butt cap, 35cm long, together with a manuscript note dated 16th June 1971, 'Muzzle loading pistol by L Hollis & Sons given to me by Prince Azim Etenadi grand son of the late King of Afghanistan. The pistol belonged to his father and has been in Afghanistan since early Victorian times'.
1821 King George IV Coronation, a framed admission ticket to Westminster Abbey:, the central bicoloured print by James Whiting and Robert Branston in black and blue showing the King seated on the throne with classical maidens, laurels and Coat of Arms, surrounded within an embossed frame by Dobbs of national emblems and oakleaf, with Royal seal below marked 'Not Transferable' 22 x 26cm, also a similar Westminster Hall Coronation Pass Ticket by Dobbs inscribed 'Admit this barer to Lord….apartment', 19 x13cm, mounted on paper with manuscript title 'This ticket admitted Mr Hargrave to see George 4th crowned 1821', and an unused 'Procession Pass Ticket' by Dobbs within blue and red showing George IV in a chariot within a rectangular border with embossed border, 20.5 x 16.5cm (3)*Notes- Very good example of early bicoloured security printing first patented by Sir William Congreve in 1821. The compound printing by use of a pantograph and a geometric lathe was developed to stop the increasing levels of counterfeit banknotes.
A Manuscript receipt book - Gabriel 'Chummy' Tschumi (1883-1957), Master Chef to Queen Victoria, King Edward VII & King George V. A circa late Nineteenth Century half calf album containing 178 pages of manuscript cookery receipts, the verso of front end paper signed and inscribed "recipes from my service with the Royal Family by Gabriel Tschumi", the recipes divided into categories of dish with m/s tabs at head of pages for soup; fish; meat; savouries; sauces; sweets; etc, the manuscript receipts probably spanning the first half of the 20th century, pages m/s numbered from 263-441, p290 with manuscript heading "Recipes from my service with the Royal Family by Gabriel Tschumi" & many manuscript receipts on the following 24 pages by Tschumi and categorically in his hand, including those for, Balmoral Shortbread; Bavarois au Chocolat; Windsor Castle Carrot Pudding; King Edward VII Yorkshire Pudding; "Queen Alexandra's Favourite Dish - Poulet d'Avoise"; "Recipes from my service with King George V...Curry Sauce and Bombay Duck"; "Buckingham Palace Mutton Pies"; Invalid dishes prepared for King George V when...convalescing at Bognor in 1929 - Pomme de Terre d'Avoise" etc etc, numerous other m/s receipts throughout the book spanning a broad timespan, of which many others probably in Tschumi's hand. Tschumi was a Swiss national who was appointed a cook's apprentice in the kitchens of the Royal Household at 16, and went on to serve as master chef to QV, KE VII & KG V following several successive promotions. He received his long and faithful service medal in 1930 and retired from Royal Service in 1932. He worked at Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, worked on Edward VII's 1902 Coronation banquet & was responsible for the Wedding breakfast for the Duke and Duchess of York April 26 1923. After retirement from Royal Service he worked at Welbeck Abbey, Sandringham and Marlborough at various points. The album 8vo, attractive contemporary half leather with decorative gilt tooling over marbled cloth covered boards, backstrip scuffed at edges, extremities slightly worn, internally some spotting and toning but generally clean/VGC

HRH Charles, Prince of Wales, handwritten card to Mary Wilson, English poet and wife of former UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson, sending his best wishes for her 100th birthday, the design of the card depicting one of Charles's watercolours. Note that the dotted texture of the card gives a printed appearance to the text, but the inscription is indeed manuscript, black ink, dated 12 January 2016
