Manuscript précis in Spanish and Italian of the Treaty of Westminster (agreed between Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the English Commonwealth, and the States General of the United Netherlands, signed in April 1654), titled 'Capitolazioni della Pace fra L'Inghilterra, e L'Olanda', & 'Le Propositni.di Pace, che fa La Republica d'Orlanda alla Repca. d'Inghilterra', circa 1654, two folded sheets of folio contemporary laid paper, each bearing the same continental watermark, the first written in brown ink in Spanish and headed 'Nuevas', written to one side only, docketed to verso, the second sheet written in Italian in brown ink to two sides of the folded sheet, and docketed to reverse of the second sheet, each additionally numbered to upper right corner 81 and 83 in brown ink in a contemporary hand, sheet size 305 x 205 mm (12 x 8 ins), together with: Strode (Sir John, 1624-1679, Commissioner during both the Civil War and Restoration, who became Commissioner for pressing seamen in 1665). Autograph letter signed, dated 25 September 1669, addressed to 'the Right Honorable his Majies Commissioners of His Name', offering a ship to carry victuals to Lisbon: 'Gent, Mr. Wrem tells me that you have asked for a shipp for Lisbone, which makes me recommend unto you Mr Jacobs & his Ship the Marie a new Shipp of a good force and a shipp I am concerned in, he shall serve you as cheepe as any and you will buy it extremely oblidge him who is, yr most humble servant, John Strode', handwritten in brown ink to a single folded sheet of laid paper with similar watermark to the documents described above, creased where previously folded, and with red seal to verso, the upper leaf with later restrengthening to verso of fore edge, sheet size 300 x 207 mm (11.8 x 8.2 ins)Qty: (3)NOTESThese two summaries in Spanish and Italian of the main points of the peace treaty which ended the First Anglo-Dutch War were likely to have been distributed to a member of the delegations involved in the negotiations. These two documents are likely to have been drawn up by an Italian diplomat or translator, possibly attached to one of the delegations involved in the negotiations. The Spanish version includes the stipulation that Dutch ships are required to lower their flags to the English when in English waters, in recognition of the Navigation Act of 1651. The Italian text refers to the payment of one million scudi by the Dutch to cover the cost of the war, and to trade routes with both the West and East Indies, the text ending 'Questo e quello che mi raccordo di piu d'Importanza.'.

Two illuminated leaves from a manuscript Book of Hours, French, circa 1450, illuminated manuscript on vellum, the first comprising 14 and 12 lines of single-column gothic Latin script to each side, one side with a double-line illuminated initial, three single-line illuminated initials and decorative line filler in blue, pink and gold, both sides of leaf with full-length illuminated panel border of burnished gold foliate leaves and flowers with single figure supported amongst the stems and leaves, text and border approximately 100 x 105 mm, leaf size 185 x 133 mm, mounted; the second comprising 16 lines of single-column gothic Latin script to both sides, one side with 4-line illuminated initial in blue, green, pink and gold, full-length illuminated panel border of burnished gold foliate leaves with small flowers, text and border approximately 105 x 85 mm, leaf size 182 x 130 mm, mountedQty: (2)

Rotheram, Royal Engineers, 1886, 23 pen-and-ink sketches on 7 sheets of thick wove paper (rectos only), initialled, captioned and numbered throughout, Rotheram's addressed ownership inscription (Kilbride, Trim, Co. Walter Henry Rotheram, apparently at this stage a junior officer in the Royal Engineers, had by the time of the Great War reached the rank of lieutenant-colonel; his name is often misspelt Rotherham. All the sketches are coastal views. Two of the sheets are captioned 'Sketches in Tasmania 1886' and contain six views in total, including 'Hobart from Quay', 'Yacht Race, Hobart Harbour', and 'On the R. Derwent, Tasmania'. Two further sheets are captioned 'Proposed Naval Coaling Station in Torres Straits' and 'Sketches of Torres Straits & Vicinity', and contain three and six views respectively. The final three sheets contain eight views of the Bali Strait, including Madura Island and Cape Sedano, of which two are larger panoramas.

The wrathful emanation of Avalokiteshvara is adorned with many beaded chains and necklaces, an opulent tiara and earrings, all highlighted with turquoise stone inlay.

Postal History - Royal Navy and The Caribbean, Jamaica - a George III ink manuscript crossed letter, addressed to [Commander] Joseph Baker Esqr., Commander of H.M.S. Calypso, Port Royal, Jamaiaca/by the Packet June 3rd 1801, from his wife Elizabeth (née Weyermann), and principally concerning domestic matters, the script typically written frugally horizontally and vertically across the one sheet of paper, Bishop Mark: A.J.U. 801 enclosing the number 6, traces of red wax seal, the sheet 37cm x 23cm, dated 1801Joseph Baker RN (1768-1817), the career sailor and future cartographer, by birth was maternally related to the famous Admiral Vernon. Entering the service in 1781 he initially served in the West Indies during the American Revolutionary War, on various vessels and under various commands, and saw action against the French at the Battle of the Saints in April 1782. Before the French Revolutionary War, Baker, among other orders, mapped in North America, but come 1st March 1799, he was appointed commander of H.M.S. Calypso (1783) and tasked with escorting a convoy from Cork to Jamaica, which saw an attack from Spanish ships. Eventually stationed at the Jamaica Station, H.M.S. Calypso conveyed troops from Jamaica to Honduras in March 1801; before Baker received this letter from his wife. After a bout of unemployment, Baker went on to serve in the Napoleonic Wars, sailed in Estonian and Russian waters, survived a court-martial, commanded a prisoner-of-war near Bristol, and ended his days in residence at Presteigne, Dadnorshire. H.M.S. Calypso herself sunk on 30th July 1803 with the loss of all hands.
The American Revolutionary War - George Washington Interest - an ink manuscript note, 'General Washington's compliments wait on Lt. Col Frazer by the favour of his company at dinner to day at 3 'o'clock, Saturday morning', 7cm x 23cm, c.1777, framedPersifor Fraser (1736 - 1792) joined the army as a captain in the 4th Pennsylvania Regiment in 1776, was appointed major of the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment in October of that year and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in March 1777. He was captured by the British shortly after the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777 but escaped in March 1778. After holding various local government positions in Chester County he joined the local militia as a Brigadier General in 1782

Orange wmk Crown CA, Perf 14, 1882 Straits ovptd 'B' Type 1, variety overprint double, part Bangkok CDS used example, one of the rarest of the double overprints. An exceptionally difficult stamp to locate in cds condition, due to delicate colour, this being a particularly fine example, described on the BPA colour photo-certificate (2019) as bearing manuscript line at foot, creases (absolutely minimal), soiled (barely) and a little rubbed (hardly), is genuine - most of which, apart from the authenticity, is irrelevant because a better example hardly exists.
