Design of manuscript letters, signed by the artist. Moshe Elazar Castel was active/lived in New York/Israel/France, and is known for abstract, landscape, and figure painting, sculpture. A collection of framed Indo-Persian illuminated manuscript pages, probably 19th century, four appear to be from the same publication and have illuminated headpieces in colours and gold, Nastaʼlīq script in black ink including lines written diagonally to the outer margin, with further floral decoration to the upper right hand outer margin and gold decoration within the text, all within gold ruled borders, each page visible dimensions approx 21.5 x 11.5cm; together with four illustrated/illuminated pages (in three frames) which appear to be from the same publication, two being illustrated with ceremonial scenes, and two being mainly Nastaʼlīq script in black ink, all within floral and gold decorated borders, each page visible dimensions approx 16.5 x 11cm (8 pages in seven frames)Condition report: Some damage to frames.Some fading and tears apparent to several pages.

Political and Legal History - City of London - a George I summons, printed and completed in handwritten manuscript, Sir, You are desired to meet the Committee for to (sic) advise with ** the Prohibition & C at Guild-Hall, on this day being the 20th day of Oct[ober] 1719 at 3 of the clock in the afternoon, signed Thomas Briarcliffe, framedThis Summons relates to a meeting of a committee of Aldermen and Common Councilmen of the City of London which was appointed as a result of the events following the annual elections for the Common Council in December 1717. The result of the election in Tower Ward was disputed by Peter Bolton and Edward Bridgen, two unsuccessful candidates, and the ruling of Alderman Sir Charles Peers called into question. Bolton and Bridgen petitioned Common Council but an action was commenced against them under the rule of King's Bench by which they were obliged to show cause why writ of prohibition should not be made to Common Council to prevent it from any further cognizance of that particular complaint. This was taken as an attempt to interfere with the City's privileges and a committee was appointed on 30th June 1718 (Journal 57, fo.11) to examine its rights 'to have the Cognizance, Jurisdiction and Authority of Examining Hearing Determining and Judging of and concerning the Election of every person Yearly Chose to be of the Common Council'. The dispute engaged the attention of the Common Council and the law corts for many months and eventually reached the House of Lors, but a compromise was effected before the case was heard. Disputed elections, however, continued until matters were settled by the Election Act of 1725

Royalty - Abstracts from Diaries, a late Victorian-Edwardian titled ink manuscript precis of a diary, dated from 1878 to 1910, inscribed over 32 sheets and presumably kept by a gentleman connected to the Royal Court - ?possibly a Guards officer, he records calling at Buckingham Palace with J. Snowden in April 1879 and records that Queen Victoria returned from Florence, going to Ascot with J. Hollis and Charles Lewis (recurring friends through the notes) and noting that he sold his black cob for £18; 2nd March 1882, Roderick Maclean's assassination attempt of Queen Victoria, our author went with the Mayor to the Castle (presumably Windsor) to present an address of congratulations for the monarch's escape; 27th April 1882, he attended the wedding of Prince Leopold, the Duke of Albany to Princess Helen von Waldeck und Pyrmont at St. George's, Windsor, and notes seeing the arrival of European royals and embraces on the platform; 20th October 1882 a detachment of 2nd Life Guards returned from Egypt, on 15th November a reception was held for the Duke of Connaught on his return from Egypt at the castle, six days later Queen Victoria distributed medals to 300 officers in the quadrangle, the torchlight welcome was concluded by a select few being entertained by John Brown beneath the dining-room; 28th March 1883, the death of John Brown; a year later, her son Prince Leopold at Cannes and our author attends the funeral procession from Windsor Station to St. George's Chapel with Queen Victoria in her carriage, the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) and the Duke of Clarence on foot, and three bands of Guards, he was present at the funeral, too; between these notices he attends the theatre and an Electric & Gas Lighting Appliances display, takes his wife to London, attends the Lord Mayor's banquet, and makes typically English observations on the weather, etc., folio (33cm x 21cm), [1]

NO RESERVE French Photograph Album.- Kennard (Hugh) Villa Vallombrosa of the Riviera, photograph album of French villa and surrounding area, 39 photographs, and A.L.S. signed to the photographer's mother on Balmoral Castle letterhead loosely inserted, most with captions in pencil, original boards, gilt, manuscript title to cover, later manuscript note to cover, rather soiled and rubbed, portion of spine coming away but holding firm, oblong 8vo, 1882-3.⁂ An attractive Victorian photograph album from Lieutenant Hugh Coleridge Kennard (1859-1886), of stately mansions along the French Riviera and the surrounding areas. Fearing Villa Vallombrosa, Villa Eilenroc, Villa des Colonnes, as well as views of Monte Carlo, Monaco and Cap d'Antibes. The letter thanks Lady Kennard for the album after presenting it to Queen Victoria: "I took your book of photographs to show the Queen yesterday evening and Her Majesty seemed greatly interested in them..."

Boxing Legend Sugar Ray Robinson autographed manuscript letter framed montage,featuring two images of Robinson with engraved metal plaque alongside a signed hand written letter from Sugar Ray, reading: “Dear Rabbi, I hope this find [sic] you well and enjoying good health. I trust you are aware of our work with the youth. Our programmes have been very successful an [sic] we are expanding rapidly. I am appealing to all my friends to help us along by sending us a donation. We are tax deductible. Thankfully Sugar Ray”, on Sugar Ray's Youth Foundation letterhead, frame measures 65 by 57cm.

George Bentham: 'The Handbook of British Flora; a Description of the Flowering Plants and Ferns Indigenous to, or Naturalized in, the British Isles', London, Lovell Reeve, 1865, 2 volumes, the copy of Castalia Rosalind (nee Campbell), Countess of Granville (1847-1938), with her ownership signatures at head of half titles both volumes, and with her manuscript pen and ink annotations and marginalia throughout, plus a few contemporary pressed flower/botanical specimens inserted between leaves, plus an autograph letter signed to Lady Granville from a J.A. Godley, August 4 1879 "Dear Lady Granville, I was looking yesterday at the account of Betshanger in Ireland's History of Kent, & found this passage:- "Near Little Betshanger was found the plant astragalus glycyphyllos, or wild liquorice, which is extremely rare, and never observed elsewhere"...Can you find anything about the plant in any of your books? It is not mentioned in the 1- volume Sowerby under either of those names. If the history is correct...this ought to give you a chance of making a magnificent addition to your collection. We would look for it, if we knew what it was like. "Little Betshanger" is the official name of Sir Walter's farm. I hope you found all well at Walmer. Harry Craddock: 'The Savoy Cocktail Book', London, Constable & Company, 1930, 1st edition, signed and inscribed "Here's How! Harry Craddock", verso dedication page, this book formerly being the copy of Collis-Phillips Halpin, a contemporary and personal friend of Harry Craddock's, who worked as a cocktail bartender and dancer in London, including the Regency Club in Piccadilly Circus, with his contemporary pencil ownership signatures to verso and recto of FFEP, and his signature in shortened form "Phil" in pencil at head of dedication page. Later inscribed presentation by Collis-Phillips Halpin to the present owner on half title dated 1977 in blue ballpoint, and with his manuscript on page 284 giving the method of serving champagne and port, and beneath stated "My original cocktail "Emerald Isle" was afterwards bottled and sold as Green Goddess. Needless to say I was not given a prize, neither was my cocktail put on exhibition! Collis-Phillips Halpin". Illustrations and decorations printed in black and colours throughout by Gilbert Rumbold, orginal cloth backed art deco texturised boards in black, gold and green, later professionally rebacked preserving original backstrip. Together with Harry Craddock's sword stick (a/f), the poor condition attributed by Collis-Phillips Halpin owing to its use one evening by Harry Craddock to eject a gentleman who had become inebriated and abusive to other customers and who refused to leave a party of ladies alone, Harry reputedly hitting the man so hard across the shoulder that the blow broke the end of the stick completely. To those who saw the incident Harry Craddock apologised on behalf of the client and himself, and the American cocktail Bar erupted in cheers from the men and dainty clapping from the women. A unique association copy of an iconic work from the flamboyant Art Deco period heyday of London's Hotel and Cocktail Bar scene.
