SAMANTHA PRODUCTIONS VOLUME 1 LP (ORIGINAL UK RELEASE - TRANSWORLD SPLP 101) The amazingly diverse 1968 LP compilation on the tiny UK label Transworld Records. The record is in lovely Ex condition, displaying a couple of wispy paper hairline marks. The front laminated sleeve is in glossy VG condition, the cover is bright and clean, the sleeve has some water damage rippling. A fantastic summary of the album from an enthusiastic Discogs user on the forum: "There is very little filler on this, and several classics of the Psych/Pop Art/Hard R&B genre (please note no mention at all here of the truly moronic, inaccurate, anachronistic, tautological tag "Freakbeat", lets just stamp this out). Poor production values and a Garagey vibe only add to the appeal. And, actually, the compilation is a surprisingly coherent listen. Much better than 99% of reissue comps over the decades. This stuff is REAL. One pathetic, committed shot at recognition for these bands, no cover versions, no session players, nothing really. Well lots of great guitar and a truly subterranean vibe. Totally recommended.
