Mick Abrahams band, Bell and Arc Thames Poly poster Original vintage poster for an event at Thames Poly on Friday 15 October, 1971. Graham Thomas Bell (17 April 1948, Blyth, Northumberland — 2 May 2008, London) was an English pop and rock singer.Bell's father, Jimmy, who died in 2010, was a well-known local singer, and his late mother, Leonora Rogers, was in show business prior to marriage, after which she was heavily involved in local music and dance. Graham made a solo single in 1966 and one year later replaced Alan Hull as the singer of psychedelic rock band Skip Bifferty (later renamed Heavy Jelly). In 1969 he was singer in another psychedelic rock band Griffin. In 1970 he began his stint with Charisma Records, joining Every Which Way, a band formed by Brian Davison formerly of The Nice, as singer and principal writer. Musical style was jazzy progressive rock with guitar from John Hedley (who was later part of Last Exit, with Sting) playing call and response with Bell's blues shout vocals. Bell then rejoined his old mates from Skip Bifferty, now known as Arc, to form Bell & Arc in July 1971, with John Turnbull, Mick Gallagher, Bud Beadle, Kenny Craddock, Steve Gregory, Tom Duffy and Alan White. Bell was then tempted to leave the group to record an album as a solo artist in 1972. Featuring Tim Hinkley, Mel Collins and Ian Wallace, it was produced by Bob Dylan associate Bob Johnston. Michael Timothy 'Mick' Abrahams (born 7 April 1943) is a guitarist and band leader, best known as being the original guitarist for Jethro Tull. Abrahams was born in Luton, Bedfordshire. He played on the album This Was recorded by Jethro Tull in 1968, but conflicts between Abrahams and Ian Anderson over the musical direction of the band led Abrahams to leave once the album was finished. Abrahams wanted to pursue a more blues/rock direction, while Anderson wanted to incorporate more overt folk and jazz influences. He was replaced first by Tony Iommi who would leave Tull after only a few weeks and would later go on to form Black Sabbath, and then by Martin Barre who remained with Jethro Tull until the band ceased in 2011. Good condition, tears and tape marks. Country:UK Year:1971. Designer: Unknown Size: 75x50.5

Lot 22

OBERON - A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM - The wonderful self released 1971 LP from Oberon - this is one of only 99 copies pressed. The band members were only teenagers when they recorded this beautiful album that has Folk at its heart; there are arrangements of traditional songs such as Nottanum Town and Summertime, but also brilliant guitar work from Chris Smith on Peggy and the album ventures into pure Psychedelia with The Hunt; says Robin Clutterbuck (vocals/guitar): "For me, the most exciting track - lots of interesting ideas and changes of mood. Medieval?" Side 1 is in VG+ condition with a couple of light hairline and surface markings. There are no scratches or heavier markings at all. Side 2 is in Ex condition with just a couple of very light and minor wispy paper scuffs. Annie Turnhill, a flautist who has collabortated with Charlie Seaward has her name written on the side 1 label. Matrix: OBE LPS 1A & 1B. The sleeve is signed by flautist Charlie Seaward and Annie has written on the top right hand side of the reverse. Condition of the sleeve is VG+ with some light ringwear and couple of light stains on the reverse. The record has been played and there are no issues whatsoever, there is only very low surface noise in the piano or pianissimo sections. Jeremy 'Bernie' Birchall (bass) said of the release: "It was self-released but recorded by Colin Sanders who ran the local Oxford Acorn label. We printed up 99 copies of the album because this was the maximum number you could have without paying some extra tax."

Lot 32

KATIE MELUA - CALL OFF THE SEARCH. The fantastic debut release from Katie Melua who pooled together a wealth of musical expertise on this LP including Chris Spedding on guitar! The sleeve is in clean Ex condition with just a little light wear on the front. A lovely copy of a lovely album!

Lot 37

WIMPLE WINCH - RUMBLE ON MERSEY SQUARE SOUTH/ATMOSPHERES 7" MISPRESS (TF 781). The mind-blowing double header from the manic Merseyside outfit, this extremely rare Fontana 45 of Rumble On Mersey Square South c/w Atmospheres (this is the astonishingly hard to find mispressing, B side is labelled Typical British Workmanship) will indeed blow your socks off! The record is in VG condition with surface markings, some scuffs and a couple of light scratches to the playing surfaces. The labels are in good order with the three pronged centre fully intact. Both sides have been played and the tasting notes are as such: A side with very little surface noise on the intro, nice and clear vocals at the start of the track. Some light pops in the middle of the track. The ever so raucous 'meltdown' sounds monstrous with very little distortion. When the dynamic decreases towards the end of the track, there is little disturbance. A staggering side that can be fully enjoyed. B side with the almost as raucous guitar motif sounding killer, this is heard later in the track an octave higher and with more decoration, also sounding ace. Minor surface noise in the 'breaks' of the track. The harmonies later on in the track are lovely and clear. A couple of light pops towards the end of the track. Both sides have no skips or jumps. Complete with original company sleeve.
