Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. All fourteen tracks of Bowie's album were self-penned and, musically, the album was a mix of influences, including theatre and music hall. Unlike most pop music of the time, with the usual instrumentation of electric guitar, bass and drums, it featured brass and woodwind.Talking about the album in 1990, Bowie is quoted as saying:'Lyrically, I guess it was striving to be something, the short story teller. Musically it's quite bizarre. I don't know where I was at. It seemed to have its roots all over the place, in rock and vaudeville and music hall. I didn't know if I was Max Miller or Elvis Presley.'(Nicholas Pegg, 'The Complete David Bowie', 2016, Revised & Updated edition, Titan Books, London)For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
