His signature, as it appears on more modern works, is more "westernised", rendered as "C Chien Lai"Provenance: From the collection of the late Jimmy Currie, musician and art dealer, Willesden, London. Jimmy travelled worldwide as an accompanist, on guitar and drums to Lonnie Donegan, and it's probable that this picture was purchased by him, in the Far East, in the early sixties.

Watkins Rapier electric guitar, the double cutaway body fitted with black laminate scratch plate bearing feint traces of logo, fitted with twin chromed pickups and vibrato unit, finished in red with original case, serial number 1120, with original case, the guitar measures 97cm overall length. Condition report: Refinished red. The guitar plays well and has a straight neck, and low action, there are chips to the fingerboard with some frets needing attention. Tuners are period replacements. The scratch plate logo has worn away, there is a small crack to the scratch plate in this area. Small scuffs, dents belt buckle marks typical of use.

A ROB ARMSTRONG ELECTRIC GUITAR, mahogany body and through neck, rosewood fingerboard with plastic edge markings in dot form (no fingerboard markings), rosewood bridge with bone piece and plezo pickup underneath the bridge piece, one jack output on the bottom edge of body, signed behind a plywood back plate along with Serial No. appears to read 591, 897 both of these are written in pencil on to unfinished wood, the headstock has a cream plastic stylised a protruding from the surface, two strap buttons on horn and back edge of the body, a rare opportunity to buy a custom Luthier made guitar very rare to see on the open market, includes a soft gig bag and a leaflet signed by the maker

A Meissen style model of a Turkish Musician, 19th century, after a figure modelled by Peter Reinecke in 1745, modelled standing holding a guitar beneath his arm and wearing a turban, a white jacket over gilt tunic and black trousers, unmarked, 17cm high (restored)The figure of the Turk is based upon the engraving of 'Le Turc Amoureux' by Georg Friedrich Schmidt (1712-75), after a painting of around 1730 by Nicholas Lancret (1690-1743). The Meissen model is illustrated in R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan (1966), no. 956, where he mentions that it was first referred to in the Meissen records in 1744.

MUDDY WATERS - MISSISSIPPI BLUES - Another brilliant early 4 track EP from Muddy Waters with his guitar... London tri-centre (maroon/gold RE-U 1060). The record is in super clean Ex condition with just one or two very wispy and light markings. The labels are sharp with the tri-centre fully intact. The laminated flipback sleeve is in (again very clean) Ex condition with just some rather minor edgewear.
