Emilia Chubb Sunday Market Stroll, 2023 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Emilia's paintings aim to be delightfully nostalgic and full of character. She is inspired by the every day, whether that be from nosing around cafés and markets for inspiration or wondering around the city at night; Emilia grasps the spirit of a place using bold, vibrant colours. Fascinated by places and people, Emilia encapsulates the beauty of time, location, and memory on an aesthetic and emotional level. Drawing from her own experiences and the many stories she hears from viewers who have a connection to her chosen spots, Emilia produces paintings that move with the rhythm and rush of the city. Education Emilia graduated in 2020 from the Courtauld Institute of Art, where she studied History of Art, BA (Hons). She also studied Fine Art at UAL, Chelsea College of Art, and has a Foundation Diploma in Fashion and Textiles from UCA. Select Exhibitions/Awards This year 2023 has got off to an exciting start, chosen as a semi-finalist in the RBA 'Rising Stars' Exhibition with her painting 'Beigel Bake 11pm' and exhibiting at The Other Art Fair, London in March 2023 (& 2022). In the last year she has also shown work at Fresh Art Fair (Cheltenham & Ascot), Manchester Art Fair and Edinburgh Art Fair, to name a few. In 2021, at the very beginning of her career, she was part of the Threshold Annual Summer Exhibition at D Contemporary, Mayfair, London with 'Searching for a Remedy II'. In 2022, her painting 'To Solitude' was also shortlisted for the 2022 SWA exhibition at the Mall Galleries & long listed for the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter prize. Gallery Representation Punchbowl Gallery, Hindhead, Surrey. The Brunswick Gallery, London. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork This art on a postcard piece is a small segment 'study piece' of my now sold original piece 'Sunny Sunday'. It's a small but vibrant& lively study of Columbia Road Flower Market in London. It's a spot I frequent, and somewhere I know holds a special place in a lot of Londoners hearts. I chose this area because I want the piece to uplift and make viewers smile. This could either be through the feelings of nostalgia it creates towards the place or a more general attraction to bright colours and nature to evoke feelings of positivity. The piece could essentially be anywhere, having chosen just a small section, I wanted the piece to be as escapist as it is representative of the best places in London.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork These minimal, geometric paintings are non representational, concerned with reductive colour and are a series. The surfaces are built up through intense layering over time to achieve physical depth in the paintings. The layers relate to the way in which layers are built up and worn down through the natural processes of time in nature. This process also helps to create a sense of "Yugen" an Asian concept which means inexpressible depth or invisible beauty. This idea arises from the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi - Sabi which describes the inexpressible beauty which things especially natural objects attain with the passage of time. It incorporates the idea of the beauty of imperfection and irregularity or roughness and avoids ornamentation in structure.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In "Artificial existence" the view of the change in our existence is raised to the meta level by means of intentional coincidences. We look at the technological change in an age of increasing digitization, in which data and media determine our everyday life. Let's see the social change away from traditional role models to a spectrum of sexual identity. However, the main focus of the observation is not on social constructs or philosophical approaches, but on the interaction of human existence and its natural environment - seen in this way, the representation of human nature from the inside out as a symbol for the change in our existence.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. About Hannah Gilson is a London based illustrator and educator whose mixed media practice combines painting, screen printing and drawing. Evolving from a predominately fine arts background, her work has naturally settled with hand drawn and digital illustration, where she engages with popular culture and aesthetics. Education BA Fine Art, Winchester School of Art Select Exhibitions/Awards Winner of the Boodle Hatfield Printmaking Prize, 2022. Gallery Representation Air Contemporary, Aunt Joy Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I discovered art and visual pop culture during long hours spent in record shops as a child (my dad was a collector). I passed the time by looking at the album covers and this sparked an interest in the relationship between art and music which would develop more specifically into looking at the role of the artist in creating and sustaining an icon. Both 'Debs' and 'Ziggy says..' link back to these early visual influences, whilst 'Dry your eyes mate' is a more playful take on Michelangelo's David and his masculinity.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Gavin Dobson Dream Boy, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Gavin is an artist based in East London. Originally from the North East of England, he trained in Fine Art at Middlesex University specialising in painting. Alongside his painting, Gavin is also an experienced screen printer. Gavin tends to keep his paintings loose and expressive, using fluid movements and textures to create engaging and lively pieces which thoughtfully lead the viewer to a chosen narrative. In recent years Gavin's practice has focused in exploring homosexuality and the various subcultures which surround it, looking into the expectations and stereotypes which gay men face and how in turn this can affect one's mental health. His paintings are loose and expressive tackling the emotional highs and lows of being a gay man in contemporary Britain. Queer culture exists beyond a week at Pride and it has a proud and sadly unearthed history which in turn has affected notions surrounding masculinity/ femininity and indeed what it means to be gay. Sheila Wallis The Husband's Hands, 2023 Pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About I was born in Derry City in Northern Ireland. I live and work in London. I was awarded my Master's Degree in 2014 at the City and Guilds of London Art School, and won the Principal's Prize. In 2009 I won the Threadneedle Prize, the Winsor and Newton Painting / Watts Gallery Painting Prize. I won the ING Discerning Eye London and South East regional prize both in 2019 and in 2021. I bring the skills of a traditional figurative artist to a spectrum of contemporary and historical subject matter, my primary interest though, is as an image maker. My interests though wide-ranging, centre on exploring the formal and critical potential of painting and drawing. Whether through an exploration of the painterly potential of X-Ray imaging, cinematic and television stills, the tonal delicacy of the daguerreotype, or in creative reinterpretation of archival, photographic and photojournalistic sources. I occasionally accept portrait commissions and run a small private teaching practice from my London studio. Education 2014 Fine Art MA (Distinction) City and Guilds of London Art School 2009 Fine Art BA (Hons) Degree, University for the Creative Arts UK Select Exhibitions/Awards Awards: 2021 London and the South East Regional Prize, ING Discerning Eye Exhibition, Mall Galleries London 2014 Principal's Prize City and Guilds of London Art School 2009 The Threadneedle Prize, Mall Galleries London Exhibitions: 2023 SFSA Drawing Open, London 2022 Society of Women Artists, Mall Galleries, London 2020 Annual Exhibition of Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour, Mall Galleries, London 2020 A Change of Season, The Gallery Holt, Norfolk UK 2020 The Seventh View, C24 Gallery New York 2019 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition, Mall Galleries London. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I selected these works (2 paintings and 2 drawings) because they are representative of my current practice. I have recently been making small life studies using a life model in preparation for large studio paintings. I have been making large life studies since 2007 and continue to be captivated. I frequently make small oil paintings from selected film-stills which begin to hint at the possibility of an alternative narrative, one that isn't actually chronicled in the film itself. The drawing of my husband's hands, and another is a depiction of an interior titled 'Room', a current subject of interest which I hope to further develop in 2023. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Caitlin Flood-Molyneux Mania, 2023 Mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Caitlin Flood-Molyneux is a contemporary Welsh Artist based in South Wales. Their artistic practice investigates the relationship between pop culture imagery and the way in which we attach emotion and memory to images and use this to narrate their subjective experiences of hardship. Developing from the visual styles of DADA and early Pop Art, the combination of found imagery alongside abstract painterly forms allows them to develop their own visual language. Their use of historical imagery is important, as it embodies the memories which the artist seeks to portray. Their work is both deeply personal and universal, as it charts key moments of their life; a private and enigmatic visual story with which Flood-Molyneux invites the viewer to forge their own connection. Education Caitlin Flood-Molyneux holds a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree from Cardiff Metropolitan University (also one year from Bergen Academy of Art and Design). The artist also holds a Master's Degree in Fine Art from Cardiff Metropolitan University. Laura Jane Scott Measured, 2023 Interior Paint on card Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Laura Jane Scott is an artist working in minimalist, geometric abstraction and colour-field painting. Her desire for formal simplicity through geometric form and her striking use of colour enables her to produce work where painting explores a model of architectural form and where colour embodies a physical structure. The resulting work is a refined visual vocabulary of form and colour. "My aim is always to express an idea as simply and as elegantly as possible. To strip everything back to only what is necessary to communicate that idea. My work is primarily an exploration of balance, of positive and negative space, of presence and absence." Education Laura studied at Camberwell College of Arts and Ravensbourne University London. Select Exhibitions/Awards Laura's work has been exhibited widely over the past seven years in London, Edinburgh, New York and Hamburg and has featured twice in the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. Gallery Representation Laura is represented by Kittoe Contemporary in London and frequently shows work with &Gallery in Edinburgh. She also sells work independently and accepts commissions for large scale installations. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Laura has submitted two works to Art on a Postcard Summer 2023. The first is a miniature of her relief series 'Necessary Limits' which explores colour, balance and form within the confines of some self-imposed boundaries. The second, 'Measured', is a minimalist painting of saturated, clean-edged shapes using colours from Laura's signature palette and the component shapes that often appear in her work.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Emma Haworth Midnight, 2023 Watercolour on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Born in Plymouth, Emma Haworth lives and works in London and is represented by the Rebecca Hossack Gallery. Emma Haworth's paintings are narratives usually set in a park or country side behind which is an urban environment. These areas are havens for people and wildlife, places of sanctuary and refuge from the city. Such spaces have a constantly changing backdrop with the seasons weather and passage or time affecting the wildlife and people that pass through them. The narrative in Haworth's paintings may draw from fairy tales, stories or biblical tales that have a relationship with our contemporary society. The places she paints are magical, full of secrets and hints of stories. Sheila Wallis Voila le portrait sans retouche (study), 2023 Oil paint on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About I was born in Derry City in Northern Ireland. Mountains become places of ascension, inwardness and grace. Desert as indifference. Untamed and wild landscape, in all its apathy, elicits a primal pull to enter it, to be joined with it, to know it intimately. Seeking the solace of empty places, I create intensely personal portraits of quiet, meditative spaces that encourage contemplation, reflection and investigation of self, sublimity and the divine.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Gabriela Szulman Self Portrait, 2023 Woven collage Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About I grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but South London has been my home for many years now. Originally trained in in ceramics at Camberwell College of Art in the early 90s, after graduation I ran a ceramics studio for twelve years, supplying a number of galleries across the UK and also selling internationally. Later on I moved away from clay to explore working on paper and canvas, which led to an MA in studio printmaking from The University of Brighton in 2007. Since then I have been working as mixed-media artist, mostly in collage. My work features layered images coupled with a fair amount of bright colour and surface decoration and emerges from a fusion of painting, printmaking and found imagery. The resulting creations are often humorous and whimsical, with random connections between images. Creative inspiration comes from my growing archive of ephemera, which includes photograph albums, technical manuals, illustrated dictionaries, vintage documents, my grandmother's fashion magazines, knitting pattern books and scraps of writing among other things. The layering of found imagery and memorabilia runs across all my creations, whether they be mixed media works on canvas, collages, greeting card designs, or decorative objects. Hannah Gilson Dry your eyes mate, 2023 Mixed media collage Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Hannah Gilson is a London based illustrator and educator whose mixed media practice combines painting, screen printing and drawing. Evolving from a predominately fine arts background, her work has naturally settled with hand drawn and digital illustration, where she engages with popular culture and aesthetics. Ralph Hunter-Menzies Redacted (One), 2023 Collage Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About The relationship between deliberate and accidental marks has always interested Ralph Hunter-Menzies. His paintings revolve around the ideas of tension and juxtaposition. Drawing from vernacular forms found in the urban landscape, his work focuses on mark-making which he reduces to its most basic elements: composition and appropriation, creation and destruction. The artist often reuses old canvases and continues to work on their surfaces, using a combined array of painterly techniques such as blasted paint and printing, as well as experimenting with dyes. Influenced by the DIY culture, he cuts, composes and reassembles the pieces of fabric using a sewing machine. The resulting compositions speak of abstraction, gesture and balance. Susan Preston Bath Toy Gone, 2023 Pastel and Graphite Pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Susan Preston is an abstract painter using oil paint and pastel. These are mobile and versatile mediums; the imagery changes through the painting process, dissolving and reforming as a layered, ambiguous space develops. Through this meditative process, the work alludes to memory traces, to the shifting spaces between presence and absence, loss and retrieval. A piece is eventually resolved when the tension between the layers and the elements on the surface draw the viewer into the space, where the painting reveals its secrets slowly; these works repay contemplation. Susan Preston has exhibited widely, including in Strasbourg and London. Her work is in collections in Europe, Asia and the USA. Melanie Berman Your Heart is my Heart, 2023 Ink, acrylic and pen on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Melanie Berman explores the language of abstraction within paintings. She draws from traditional and contemporary techniques and observations. Using the interplay of the paint and the momentum of intuitive gestures to be captured within a time and space that is relevant today. Berman is drawn to the intrinsic values of her materials whilst infusing her work with a personal language and signature palettes. She uses abstraction and colour marks as if it were a universal text full of integrity, in which she features allegories that reflect on social, ideological and emotional planes. References stem from nature, music, poetry, dance that are entwined to suggest alternative possibilities for human life. The non-objective also interests her, as she translates sound into colour and illusionistic forces of connectivity into patterns. In her poetic paintings, loud fluorescent pink or orange flicks contrast with soft, quiet tones. The colours dance amongst themselves to convey a contrasting sense of rhythmic order or disorder, adding to the joyous energy of the work. The marks could be seen as akin to genetic coding or the human perception of nature and our own ecological consciousness. They could also be compared to the pages of a journal or inner landscapes, restoring the balance of collective reasoning in society. Education BA Fashion Design 2.1 Berkshire College of Art 1980 - BA Hons UCA 2008 Select Exhibitions/Awards Most recently she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy (2020, 2021, 2022) - Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy, London (2019, 2021, 2022). Corinna Button Now It's My Turn IV, 2023 Oil and mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.)   About After completing a BA honours degree in painting, I pursued a printmaking postgraduate degree in the UK, where I am from. It was during this time that I was impacted by the German Expressionists, whose works, particularly in printmaking, left an indelible impression on me. I dedicated many subsequent years to developing my work in etching and other forms of printmaking. Today, printmaking continues to be a medium that intrigues me and is hugely influential in the way I approach my painting and sculpture. People are the subjects of my work and I am intrigued by moments that, despite initially appearing quite commonplace, are (for me) charged with great significance and meaning. My inspiration is drawn from experiences or predicaments I encounter in daily life, such as social gatherings, images from social media and words from a song or a poem. All these generate ideas for themes that I can build upon, "dress-up" and weave into my work. I compose figures either in groupings or as a single figure or just a face. My aim is not to create exact likenesses, but rather to create prototypical or archetypal figures whose personality or identity is both partly exposed and partly hidden beneath the surface. Everything about the way I work (both technique and subject) is motivated by the desire to reveal or "bring something to light." Thus, my process involves layering then scraping back, building then excavating; otherwise, peeling back layers to "carve out" and reveal something hidden beneath the surface. Corinna Button From A Distance, 2023 Oil and mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About After completing a BA honours degree in painting, I pursued a printmaking postgraduate degree in the UK, where I am from. Laurence Noga Soft Grey Filtered Red (Ronnie Hilton), 2023 Acrylic, Vintage papers and collage on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About I am interested in peripheral associations and imperfect colour relationships interplayed through an industrial and geometric aesthetic. Personal themes and undercurrents and a sense of history comes from collective and individual memories. Many of the elements in my work are from my father's collection of objects and memorabilia in his garage - hundreds of tools, sheet music, packets, washers, menus, books and photographs. Their selection and use activates an open approach reliant on the environment and experimentation, alongside a human response to the mysterious, and forgotten items and their poetic sense of history. A long term interest in the "Bauhaus' particularly Moholy Nagy, Josef Albers and Paul Klee drives the unpredictability/predictability of the colour handling. These relationships aim to disorientate the viewer, as surface facture is used translucently, or with a sudden density. The colour is often disbursed, or used in compartments, to create a deliberate, and odd depth of field. Education Wimbledon College of Art in 1981 - 4, Byam Shaw (Central St Martins) 1990 -1. I am exploring a personal iconography and phenomenology and how that can be important within both memory and place: such as the look and feel of my mother's musty sheet music collection from her time as a jazz vocalist in clubs and dance bands, or the crumpled menus (some with hand written changes) from the Caprice restaurant that my father worked at for many years. The colour is built up through close colour tones in an intimate and personal way, through transparency and opacity allowing the surface of the paint to permeate structure.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Sheila Wallis Study of a foot, 2023 Oil paint on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About I was born in Derry City in Northern Ireland. Ralph Hunter-Menzies Redacted (Three), 2023 Collage Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About The relationship between deliberate and accidental marks has always interested Ralph Hunter-Menzies.
