Sie ist ihm Ausdrucksträger für eine symbolhaft überhöhte Darstellung existenzieller, oft leidvoller Gefühle und Zustände. Zu Beginn inspirieren ihn hierzu der Jugendstil und vor allem die Werke von Alfred Kubin und Edvard Munch. Doch während einer erlebnisvollen Reise durch Russland 1906 entdeckt er das Metaphysische und Geheimnisvolle im Alltäglichen für sich und wagt einen Neuanfang. Er löst seine Figuren aus dem gesellschaftlichen Kontext und verdichtet sie zu einem allgemeingültigen Sinnbild für das menschliche Dasein. Die geschlossene Statuarik seiner Plastiken ist der Inbegriff seines Ausdrucks nach Erdverbundenheit und Wirklichkeitsnähe, in Abgrenzung zu dem idealisierten Menschenbild in der Kunst seiner Vorgängergenerationen. In seiner künstlerischen Gestaltung gelangen Form und Inhalt zur Deckung. Das sparsame Formengut wird optimal eingesetzt und nur selten zur Unterstützung der Aussage überbetont. Wie bei dem "singenden Klosterschüler" verzichtete Barlach stets auf überflüssige Details und beschränkt sich auf elementare Formen. Mit leicht geöffnetem Mund und entspannter Haltung ruht der Singende in sich. Das große, den ganzen Körper umfassende Gewand verhindert die Störung der formalen Einheit durch ausgeprägte Details. Der symmetrische Faltenwurf seines Gewandes wird lediglich von dem Textband in seinen Händen verdeckt. Keine ausladende Geste durchbricht die in sich geschlossene Form. Provenienz:- Privatsammlung Norddeutschland (direkt vom Künstler)Die hier angebotene Arbeit ist ein Modell für die Großskulptur "Black Form - Dedicated to the Missing Jews", welche im Zuge der Skulpturprojekte Münster 1987, entstanden ist. Die Großskulptur erinnert an die in Deutschland für immer fehlenden jüdischen Gemeinden. Im Zuge der Skulpturenprojekte stoß diese auf viel Kritik, vorallem herhorgehoben durch Ihre monumentale Größe und die schwarze Bemalung. Nachdem kein Entschluss für den Ankauf der Großskulptur in Münster gefällt werden konnte, schenkte Sol LeWitt die Skulptur der Stadt Hamburg, wo diese im Zentrum des Parks, auf dem Platz der Republik, vor dem Altonaer Rathaus, seinen heutigen Standort fand. Der Kunsttauffassung LeWitts entsprechend trägt die Skulptur keine Inschrift. Die "Black Form" ist der Ausdruck eines schmerzhaften Vermissens, ein immerwährendes Provisorium, denn es wird nicht mehr zu ersetzen sein, was diese vertritt. Für Heinz Mack ist diese Zeit künstlerisch wegweisend und geprägt durch das permanente Experimentieren mit Material, Licht und Bewegung. Neben den "Dynamischen Strukturen" in der Malerei erschafft Mack zahlreiche skulpturale Werke wie vibrierende Lichtreliefs, kinetische Rotoren, monumentale Lichtstelen oder lichtreflektierende Kuben. . Immaterialität und die Auflösung von Formen durch das Licht haben in Macks Werk eine große Bedeutung: "Meine Metallreliefs, die ich besser Lichtreliefs nennen möchte, benötigen anstelle der Farben das Licht, um zu leben." Durch Verwendung transparenter und reflektierender Materialien entstehen um 1960 die ersten dreidimensionalen Lichtreliefs, die die Lichtreflexion steigern und so zur immateriellen Lichterscheinung werden. Ein immer wiederkehrender Werkstoff im frühen Werk von Heinz Mack ist das Aluminiumgitter, ein industrieller Werkstoff, der für die Luft- und Raumfahrt entwickelt wurde. Die ähnlich den Bienenwaben geformte Struktur lässt sich per Hand ziehen und raffen, so dass sich mit geringem Aufwand zarte Gebilde formen lassen, die das Licht aufblitzen, vibrieren und flimmern lassen. Diese Gebilde werden von Heinz Mack als Flügel oder Fächer bezeichnet. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde die untere Gitterhälfte des Lichtflügels zusammendrückt und die obere Hälfte auseinander gezogen, wodurch ein pflanzenähnlicher Eindruck entsteht. Die Gitterstruktur erinnert an Blattadern. Das bearbeitete Metall der Rückwand nimmt die Kontur des Flügels in verschiedener Weise wieder auf, so dass sich je nach Lichteinfall die Strukturen aufzulösen scheinen. Der reflektierende Hintergrund wirft das einfallende Licht durch die Netzstrukturen hindurch zurück und verstärkt dadurch den Effekt des materiell nicht greifbaren. Ende der 1940er Jahre studierte er an der Accademia Albertina in Turin Malerei. 1948 nimmt er bereits erstmalig an der Biennale in Venedig teil. Im Laufe seines künstlerischen Schaffens orientiert er sich Anfang der 1950er Jahre zunächst am Postkubismus eines Pablo Picasso, aber auch am Geometrismus Alberto Magnellis, mit dem er später zweimal in Folge an der Documenta I (1955) und II (1959) teilnimmt. Nach einem fast zehnjährigen Aufenthalt in Paris, kehrt Moreni in seine italienische Heimat zurück und ist von 1952 bis 1954 Mitglied der italienischen Künstlergruppe "Gruppo degli Otto", zusammen mit den Künstlern Afro Basaldella, Renato Birolli, Antonio Corpora, Ennio Morlotti, Emilio Vedova, Giuseppe Santomaso und Giulio Turcato. Er zählt zu den ersten Künstlern, die sich in Italien ab Mitte der 1950er Jahre mit der informellen Bildsprache auseinandersetzen. In den Besprechungen zu Morenis Beitrag auf der Biennale in Venedig im Jahr 1956 wird seine Arbeit verglichen mit den Materialbildern eines Fautrier und Dubuffet und dem abstrakten Expressionismus eines Jackson Pollock oder Willem de Kooning. 1957 und 1958 zeigen die Galerien Rive Droite und Galerie Helios Art in Brüssel große Einzelausstellungen, gefolgt von einer Ausstellung in der Kölner Galerie Änne Abels, kuratiert von Will Grohmann. Wie sehr Morenis Beitrag zur informellen Bildsprache internationale Beachtung fand, zeigt seine Teilnahme an der wichtigen Gruppenausstellung "Appel, Mathieu, Moreni und Riopelle" in der Kunsthalle Basel und im Musée des Beaux Arts Neuchatel im Jahr 1959. In beiden Museen wurde das hier vorliegende Gemälde gezeigt. Ganz im Sinne der künstlerischen Zerstörung der Bildfläche, wie wir sie aus dieser Zeit auch von Künstlern wie Lucio Fontana kennen, nennt Moreni das vorliegende Gemälde "Autocombustione" (dt. Selbstentzündlichkeit, Selbstverbrennung). In expressiven, explosionsartigen Pinselstrichen beherrscht die Ölfarbe die Bildfläche und scheint sie förmlich zum Bersten zu bringen. Die stark gestische Malerei wird hier bis aufs Äußerste ausgereizt und steht als ein Sinnbild für Stärke, aber auch für Gewalt. Passend zum Titel wählt Moreni Feurrot und Rußschwarz als vorrangige Farben. Moreni arbeitet oft in Serien. Auch aus dem Jahr 1957 gibt es vergleichbare Werke, in denen Rot als Ton dominiert. Diese Werke gehören heute zu den gefragtesten auf dem internationalen Kunstmarkt. (Nay, Oktober 1967)Während seines langen Schaffens hat Ernst Wilhelm Nay immer wieder unbeirrt einen Neuanfang gewagt. So unterzieht er auf seinem künstlerischen Höhepunkt ab Mitte der 1960er Jahre mit Vitalität und Disziplin seine Malerei einer letzten Klärung. Sie führt ihn zu einer radikalen Vereinfachung seines Formenvokabulars und zu einer Reduzierung seiner Farbwahl. Davon zeugt unser "Dynamik Bild": Nay begrenzt die Palette auf leuchtendes Blau, lichtes Gelb und kräftiges Rot sowie Weiß, begleitet von ein wenig gedecktem Ocker und Grau. Harmonisch fügt er die klar abgegrenzten organisch fließenden Flächen, floralen und spindelartigen Formen sowie runden und ovalen Scheiben aneinander. Hier und da setzt er farbliche Kontrapunkte. Analog zur Musik erzeugt er so einen melodischen Rhythmus, der über die Grenzen des Bildes weiterklingt. Anders als bei den meisten Gemälden der letzten Jahre gibt Nay dieser Komposition keine streng vertikale Ausrichtung, die einen ruhigen Bewegungsfluss impliziert. Wie der Titel andeutet, geht es dem Künstler hier um Energie, Kraft und Entwicklung. Auch wenn Nay zeitlebens sich gegen zu tiefgehende Interpretationen seiner Werke wehrt, so mögen wir die knospenartigen Gebilde als Metapher für das beginnende Leben und die sich scheinbar ausdehnende und zusammenziehende Doppelspindel als Sinnbild für den Atem, und damit für das Leben an sich, verstehen. In konsequenter Haltung verfolgt Nay auch in der späten Schaffensphase seine Ideen. Im Streben nach dem Wesentlichen und Überzeitlichen verdichtet er seine Ästhetik der 1950er Jahre nun in reduzierten Kompositionen mit reinen Formen und Farben. Wie bei unserem Gemälde können wir uns deren Strahlkraft und Wohlklang kaum entziehen. Er besucht abends Kurse für Aktzeichnung und nutzt jede freie Stunde, um zu malen. 1924 beginnt er ein Studium an der Berliner Kunstakademie bei seinem Förderer Karl Hofer. Doch bald muss er feststellen, dass die malerische Auffassung des Lehrers nicht die seine ist. Denn Nay interessiert weniger die konventionelle naturalistische oder psychologische Beschreibung, als vielmehr das Malerischen an sich, wobei er schon zu dieser frühen Zeit einen Hang zur Abstraktion verspürt. Als Meisterschüler Hofers verlässt er 1928 die Akademie. Im Selbststudium lotet er nun seine eigenen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten aus. So findet er während eines Stipendiums 1931/32 an der Villa Massimo in Rom von den Surrealisten, allen voran Max Ernst, inspirierte Bildlösungen. In den beiden folgenden Jahren malt er phantasievolle und mythische, abstrahierte Darstellungen von Mineralien, Pflanzen und Tieren in fahlen Farbtönen kombiniert mit dunklen Kontrasten. Als Abschluss dieser Reihe gestaltet Nay unser "Eichhorn-Bild": Das Gemälde wird von dem pastosen schwarzen Grund beherrscht, dem wie versteinerte Abdrücke in einer Schieferplatte pflanzliche Formen eingeschrieben sind. Darüber befinden sich rot-braune vegetative Gebilde, von denen eines als Blattmaske oder aber auch als Eichhörnchen lesbar ist. Sie verleihen der Komposition Vitalität und einen naturrhythmischen Klang. Eine geheimnisvolle Atmosphäre geht von dem Bild aus, der wir uns nicht entziehen können. Gesteigert wird diese durch das hellblaue Auge mit großer schwarzer Iris im Bildzentrum. Es scheint uns zu beobachten und zugleich aufzufordern, in seine Welt einzutauchen.In der Darstellung des Auges, vor allem in der hier gezeigten spitz-ovalen Form, findet Nay ein Thema, das er in seinem Schaffen immer wieder aufgreifen wird. Denn es impliziert das Sehen und Gesehen-werden. Und das Auge ist Symbol für magische Kräfte und bannende Abwehr sowie für Licht und geistiges Bewusstsein. Diese Assoziationen bringt er dann 1963/64 in seinen völlig abstrakten "Augenbildern" mit vehementer Kraft zum Ausdruck.
