*Beaumont College, Old Windsor, Berkshire. An album containing 137 real photo postcards of the school, collected by a pupil, Leo Burgess, circa 1911-20, comprising general school views including aerial shots, St John's, cyclists, the grounds, chapel and interiors, classes, playground, cricket field, library, gym, rowing teams on the river, cricket, rugby and other sports teams, armoury and instructors, shooting range, matron, horseriding, swimming pool, art and other classrooms, laboratory, the chaplain, OTC selection, band parades, many with captions in the negative and some with annotations to versos, corner-mounted and generally VG, some mounts and leaves blank, contemporary boards with home-made cloth cover An extraordinary pictorial record of this Jesuit public school which opened in 1861 and closed in 1967. Beaumont College was one of only two public schools to send their first Eleven to Lord's and their first Eight to Henley, the other being Eton College. When de Coubertin visited England in the course of researching the basis of his new Olympic movement the four schools he visited were Eton, Harrow, Rugby and Beaumont. The Combined Cadet Force was the only one in the country to be affiliated to the Household Division. Beaumont is one of the few great schools now gone, the property owned by Principal Hotels De Vere Beaumont Estate. The album has the school colours stitched to the cloth cover, Burgess's name on the front endpaper and a card sent to him in 1916 is included in the album. (1)

I volumi sono inoltre corredati da testatine, fregi ed iniziali ornate (di cui tre colorate all'epoca nel primo volume). Ciascun volume con duplice frontespizio: il primo recante il monogramma della Compagnia di Gesù entro una vignetta calcografica, sempre diversa; il secondo, differente in ciascun tomo, è inciso in rame e nel primo volume è in coloritura d'epoca. Margini sobri, restauro al margine inferiore del frontespizio del primo volume, lieve brunitura uniforme. Legatura ottocentesca in mezza pelle verde con piatti in carta marmorizzata e titoli impressi in oro ai dorsi, tagli spruzzati. Minimi difetti e spellature. Nota di possesso ('Ing.re Gio. The present copy presents in addition two engraved illustrations, not related to this edition, one pasted on fol. K3v, the other one, bearing an anamorphic landscape, pasted on fol. R4v. The volumes are also illustrated with headpieces and large initials, of which 3 are colored by a contemporary hand in volume 1. Every volume opens with a double title-page: a printed one bearing a vignette with the Society of Jesus monogram at the center, and an engraved one different in every volume (colored in volume 1). Margins cut a bit short, lower margin of the title-page of volume 1 restored, light browning throughout. 19th-century half calf, gilt title on spine, sprinkled edges. Manuscript ownership entry ('ng.re Gio. Batt.a Rossi') on the front flyleaf of each volume; another ownership entry ('Bibliotheca S. Barnabae Mediol.') on the title-page of volume 2 and 3.A good complete copy of the first edition of this important treatise on practical perspective illustrated with 438 engraved full-page illustrations. Al frontespizio timbro di Antonio Buonamici.Si tratta dell'edizione Nicolò e Vincenzo Rispoli del 1733 ristampata con nuovo frontespizio e nuova dedica. Alfred Priest (British, 1810-1850), Extensive landscape with village and church , oil on canvas, signed and dated 1850 lower right , 20 x 34in. (51 x 86.5cm.)* Condition: There is extensive restorative overpainting covering approximately a third to a half of the sky. Also several small spots of overpainting on the right hand side towards the bottom of the painting.The wooden fencing to the left of the figure at lower right has been completely overpainted. Some further patches of painting at the base of the picture towards the left side.The painting has been relined and extensively cleaned and a section of the narrow shaped moulding at the top edge of the gilt frame is missing, approx. 9.5 cm. long, to the left of centre.There is an old paper label of a Dublin art dealer on the reverse of the frame which is inscribed in ink with the artist's name. This appears to be contemporary.

A fascinating and rare early travel series derived from numerous sources and illuminating aspects of natural history, topography and local culture around the world. The series begins in Britain and ends with the Antipodes taking in experiments with salamanders (v), criminal justice in the Congo (viii) and the Constitution of the United States (x).Boards scuffed and rubbed, II lettering piece lacking section, very slight foxing, staining, creasing etc internally, but generally a very good example of an attractive set.
