(7.62 by 91.44cm) Colin Davidson is a contemporary artist, living and working near Belfast, Northern Ireland. Since graduating with a first class honours degree from the Art and Design Faculty at the University of Ulster in 1991, Davidson has exhibited extensively in London, New York, Milan and across Ireland. He has been shown regularly at the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition, where he has twice won awards, and has been an Academician of the Royal Ulster Academy since 2006, having won the R.U.A. Gold Medal three times and the Silver Medal twice.Colin Davidson`s work is in public and corporate collections across Ireland, including the Arts Council for Northern Ireland, the BBC, the National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland, Limerick, the Office of Public Works Collection, the Law Society of Ireland and Queen`s University, Belfast. A selection of portraits of writers and actors from his latest body of work is presently on display in the newly-reopened Lyric Theatre, Belfast.

In 2001 he received a major award from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (USA). Nineteen examples of his work are recorded within notable public collections including City of London Corporation, The Peoples Palace (Glasgow), MOMA (Wales), The Fleming Collection (London), Guildhall Art Gallery, Cheltenham Art Gallery and Glasgow Museums and Art Galleries. Hugh lives and works in Glasgow. He is a contemporary of Howson and of the same school as Campbell and Currie, and like them concentrates on the human form, and scenes from his local city. He often takes his inspiration from the derelicts and dossers in his native Glasgow. These are his Partick people who he paints with sympathy, graphic simplicity and powerful humanity. Hugh is one of the ``New Glasgow Boys`` school of painters.

Martyn Barratt Leaf bench II Marble and stainless steel Signed Unique 50cm.; 19½ins high by 180cm.; 71ins wide by 70cm.; 27½ins deep Barratt studied wood and stone carving and gilding at London Art School, and an MA in architecture at East London University. Much of his work is contemporary in concept and content, and his practice owes much to the skills he learnt in his early trades as a carver and restorer. He works in a number of mediums, including studio glass, wood and marble. His work has been exhibited internationally, and has completed commissions for many prestigious clients including the BBC and the Palace of Westminster. He was elected to the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1993, and director for the Burghley Sculpture Garden in 1997.

Elizabeth I, silver oval portrait medal by Simon de Passe, circa 1616, oval silver portrait medal, by Simon de Passe, in imitation of engraving, signed "Si: Pas. f", in narrow border at top of obverse, bust of Elizabeth three-quarters right, her eyes turned to the viewer, wearing small crown, her hair richly jewelled, high ruff collar and her "Armada" dress (after the miniature by Isaac Oliver), rev., crowned Royal shield within Garter, Lion and Unicorn supporters, DIEV ET MON DROIT on ribbon above, Latin epigram on tablet below, QVI LEO DE IVDA EST ET FLOS DE IESSE LEONES PROTEGAT ET FLORES ELIZABETHA TVOS, 61 x 49.5 mm (MI 183/187; Farquhar 138). Extremely fine with dark-toned, extremely rare. MI attributes the epigram to a "Westminster scholar" whilst also attributing the contemporary translation to another, "May Juda`s lyon and the root of Jesse / Protect thy lyons and thy flowers, Sweet Bess". This legend was re-used on a commemorative medal for the 450th anniversary of the founding of Westminster School in 2010. A specimen in gold was presented to Queen Elizabeth II. The "Armada" dress was that worn to the service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul`s Cathedral. Simon de Passe (c. 1574-c.1644), the youngest son of Crispin Passe, an eminent artist from Utrecht, who taught him the art of engraving. He came to England in about 1613, living here some 10 years mostly in the employment of Nicholas Hillard to engrave counters of the Royal Family of England. He later moved to the service of the King of Denmark. Provenance: Morton & Eden, 20-21 May, 2003 (lot 1116 - described as un-signed); ex Rt. Hon. Erik Alexander, 5th Earl of Caledon Collection, Christie`s, 4 April 1967 (lot 137, there un-named). Eleven examples recorded in the Falkiner Index (please note: it is feasible that the Index may have duplicated recordings for this and other de Passe oval medals and just as feasible that some examples may have been missed). Elizabeth I, silver oval portrait medal by Simon de Passe, circa 1616, oval silver portrait medal, by Simon de Passe, in imitation of engraving, signed "Si: Pas. f", in narrow border at top of obverse, bust of Elizabeth three-quarters right, her eyes turned to the viewer, wearing small crown, her hair richly jewelled, high ruff collar and her "Armada" dress (after the miniature by Isaac Oliver), rev., crowned Royal shield within Garter, Lion and Unicorn supporters, DIEV ET MON DROIT on ribbon above, Latin epigram on tablet below, QVI LEO DE IVDA EST ET FLOS DE IESSE LEONES PROTEGAT ET FLORES ELIZABETHA TVOS, 61 x 49.5 mm (MI 183/187; Farquhar 138). Extremely fine with dark-toned, extremely rare. MI attributes the epigram to a "Westminster scholar" whilst also attributing the contemporary translation to another, "May Juda`s lyon and the root of Jesse / Protect thy lyons and thy flowers, Sweet Bess". This legend was re-used on a commemorative medal for the 450th anniversary of the founding of Westminster School in 2010. A specimen in gold was presented to Queen Elizabeth II. The "Armada" dress was that worn to the service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul`s Cathedral. Simon de Passe (c. 1574-c.1644), the youngest son of Crispin Passe, an eminent artist from Utrecht, who taught him the art of engraving. He came to England in about 1613, living here some 10 years mostly in the employment of Nicholas Hillard to engrave counters of the Royal Family of England. He later moved to the service of the King of Denmark. Provenance: Morton & Eden, 20-21 May, 2003 (lot 1116 - described as un-signed); ex Rt. Hon. Erik Alexander, 5th Earl of Caledon Collection, Christie`s, 4 April 1967 (lot 137, there un-named).
