Barney was a student of Antonio Zucchi, the husband of Angelica Kauffmann, all of whom were known to Boulton. Boulton was attempting to bring art and luxury to the masses through an initial mechanical process transposing dead colour which was then bodied up by shop workers, then finessed by the hand of a more accomplished artist, Kauffmann was one of his favoured artists for the process. Relined and restored to the strainer.

* JAMES MCINTOSH PATRICK (SCOTTISH 1907 -1998), ROSSIE MILLwatercolour on paper, signed52cm x 74cmMounted, framed and under glass.Provenance: Private Fife collection.Note: A fine example of McIntosh Patrick's work in watercolours. After the war Patrick returned to Dundee with his wife and family and began painting outdoors rather than in the studio which he had upstairs in his house. By the 1950's he had perfected his style and technique in outdoor landscape painting and began recording his beloved Angus countryside working in all seasons and all weather conditions. His style was traditional and he didn't have much time for ''contemporary'' interpretations of landscape. ''The Tay Bridge from My Studio Window'', painted in 1947, is probably the best known of Patrick's works and illustrates the detailed style which he had finally decided upon as suiting his temperament best. He was elected a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1957. His reputation grew throughout the sixties and seventies and by the early eighties he was a giant in the Scottish art world. James McIntosh Patrick was an exemplar in his life and work and imparted his knowledge freely.

* JOHN BELLANY CBE RA HRSA (SCOTTISH 1942 - 2013), TWO WIVES oil on canvas, signed 152cm x 122cm (60 x 48 inches) Framed. Provenance: Ex Collection of Ruth and Jerome Siegel (USA). Label verso: Fischer Fine Art, 30 King Street, London. Number C 14.087. Note: After his divorce from Helen (Percy) in 1974 Bellany suffered a nervous breakdown. They had married while both were students in Edinburgh and had three children together. He married Juliet (Lister), one of his mature students in 1979. In 1985 Juliet tragically took her own life and later that year Bellany's father died. Bellany struggled to cope with these calamities but he re-united with Helen and with her help and the encouragement of his family he managed to stop drinking, permanently. However, the years of heavy drinking had already taken their toll and in early 1988 Bellany was told by his doctors that his death was near. The pioneering work of surgeon Roy Calne and his team at Addenbrooke's Hospital saved Bellany's life with what at that time was a groundbreaking liver transplant. His Lazarus like recovery offered John a second chance and he grasped it with a new found passion for life. TWO WIVES was acquired in 1990 by Jerome and Ruth Siegel who owned one of the finest private collections of contemporary art in America. Their multi million dollar collection included examples by most of the great post war American and European artists and individual paintings from the collection have sold in recent years for approaching $4,000,000. Ruth founded and led Art Latitude Gallery and the Ruth Siegel Art Gallery (New York), where she nurtured and brought to prominence major young American artists. She gave Bellany a major solo show in New York in 1988. Ruth Siegel was a board member of MoMA PS1 and the Museum of Arts and Design. There is much on the internet about Jerome and Ruth Siegel their lives, the art collection and their philanthropic activities.

AN ART NOUVEAU WMF (WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK) MASSIVE ELECTROPLATE CHAMPAGNE COOLER, CIRCA 1900, PROBABLY PRIVATELY COMMISSIONED of hollow form, the circular base moulded with a broad band of dancing putti amongst garlands and swags, rising up into a tapering cylindrical column mounted with bacchanalian figures of a male on one side and a female on the other, each holding aloft large bunch of grapes with vine leaves, the column with curvilinear motifs, a detachable fitted liner, signature under each figures feet 68cm high Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) initially began as a metal repair workshop operating under the name Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer in 1853, located in Geislingen, Germany. This workshop contributed to the construction of the Geislingen railway and won an award at the World Exhibition in London in 1862. In 1880 the company was officially renamed Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik after merging with a German company called Ritter & Co. By 1890 they had became the largest manufacturer of household metalware worldwide, subsequently patenting the silver plating technique we know today. In 1925 the company appealed to a new market, largely due to the Art Nouveau influence, establishing a viable market in contemporary art and design. The demand for elaborate and intricate designs prompted the development of handfinishing techniques, as opposed to factory production, giving each piece a unique appearance. WMF preferred to create its own designs under the direction of sculptor and designer Albert Mayer. From 1894 Mayer specialised in designs which depicted organic forms and sinuous shapes including beautiful maidens and nymphs with flowing hair and graceful postures.
