Michaela Yearwood-Dan You're Doing Great My G Acrylic, Gouache, Ink and Gold Leaf on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Michaela Yearwood-Dan, a contemporary British artist born in South London in 1994. Completing her BA in Fine Art Painting at the University of Brighton, before residing back in London, Yearwood-Dan often depicts a variety of topics based on observations of society and self. Her works tend to explore themes of class, culture/race, gender and nature and in later more current works love, loss and reflection all whilst remaining playful, personal and vibrant. Working predominately with paint and collage, Yearwood-Dan's art is habitually thick and sumptuous with references to both the origins of traditional Fine Art and pop culture; including images of late night food spots, overtly feminine stereotypes, botanical influences within personalised visual narrative. As a contemporary artist working in a historically renowned (and critically in some cases seen as a "dying art form") Yearwood-Dan's work heavily focuses on method and technique, often borrowing and adapting traits from western, Japanese and Chinese historical painting and craft. Her vibrant and luxurious style is underpinned by an expansive repertory of cultural signifiers, borrowing freely from millennial culture, blackness and feminism: texting, acrylic-nails, gold-hoops, carnival culture, and a lush, omnipresent flora which evokes seeding, propagation, growth and alludes to the intimate, infinite possibilities of a diaspora. Michaela Yearwood-Dan's work is in continuous metamorphosis as it is highly expressive and dependent on her own identity, vision and philosophy of life, as a young British artist.   Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Tiwani Contemporary (2019), One English Pound, Sarabande, The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation (2019); New Contemporaries, Baltic, Gateshead and Block 336, London (2018); After Cesaire/Morden Tropiques, Platform Southwark, London (2018).

I found this mission very powerful and I hope to contribute in this journey. As part of my process, I had taken time to dive into this topic further and I hope with this series to contribute fight the stigma around hepatitis C but also help to create a community of people who are working together and to stand up for the vulnerable in society. Alayne Spafford Down Down Collage, Acrylic and Oil on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) The search for balance is fundamental in the art of Alayne Spafford. The challenge in her work is to reconcile a natural tendency to organize and polish with a strong desire to reject those principles in favour of chaos and disorder. Evidence of this can be seen in both the process and finished product of her work. Although the initial foundation of base colour is applied rather spontaneously and with limited self-censorship, the subsequent layering of colour clearly demonstrates a strong influence of the conscious mind. During this process shapes and marks are added and manipulated in order to build a complex yet intuitive order. As such, the artist's work mirrors her internal struggle to find balance between the opposing but complementary aspects of her nature. Alayne Spafford received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honours from the University of Saskatchewan. After studying textiles at Concordia University and the Centre de Metier d'Art en Construction Textile in Montreal, she worked for many years in the costume department of Cirque du Soleil. Now residing in Edmonton, Alberta, Alayne focuses on painting full time. In 2013 Alayne collaborated to form Burn Design Collective, an art technique created with shou-sugi-ban (burnt cedar). Simon Palmer Smelling the Leafmould, 2021 Ink and Watercolour on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Simon Palmer is an acclaimed, contemporary artist, whose work details scenes of the British landscape. Bearing the traces of Eric Ravillious and Paul Nash, Palmer's work revels in palettes of soft, woody greens and earthy browns, favouring a non-linear perspective which perfectly captures the undulations of the Yorkshire Dales or the labyrinthine layout of a meandering forest. There is an honesty to Palmer's work, which often depicts a barren winter, a silhouetted branch framed against an ice-white sky: herein lies the beauty, as any lover of the English countryside will attest to. Born in Yorkshire in 1956, Palmer graduated from art school in 1977. In 2004 his first retrospective show, Territories of the Imagination, was shown at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate. He has shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on a number of occasions. Other notable group exhibitions include: the National Trust centenary; British Landscape painting in the twentieth century at Crane Kalman Gallery; Dreamers of landscape at Bohun Gallery; Art & Yorkshire: Turner to Hockney at the Mercer Art Gallery; and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera exhibition. The Art of Simon Paler was published in 2011. Palmer's work is held in public galleries and private collections across the world.

Jeremy Gardiner Portland Stone, Anvil Point, Swanage, 2021 Acrylic and Jesmonite on Poplar Panel Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Jeremy Gardiner's artistic excavation of the geology of landscape is shaped both by human activity and by the forces of nature. His painting is informed by science, geomorphology, new technologies and direct physical engagement with ancient landscapes. Gardiner interprets, through his painting and printmaking, a variety of landscapes that contain the marks and secrets of their own distant formation, giving them a unique, contemporary depth and beauty. His artistic exploration has taken him from the Jurassic Coast of Dorset to the rugged coast of Cornwall, the Oceanic islands of Brazil, the arid beauty of the island of Milos in Greece and the Lake District and its numerous waterfalls. Gardiner's spatially probing and texturally explicit pictures creatively transform the lessons learnt from pioneering modern British landscape painters such as John Tunnard, Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon and the American artist Richard Diebenkorn. 'Gardiner's distinctive laminar landscapes reveal their layered meanings only over time - this is not instant art, but art which discloses itself gradually. Its richness matches the complexity of the world it seeks to evoke, and offers back an interpretation of it which is both personal and penetrating.' Andrew Lambirth, Art Critic Gardiner studied Fine Art at Newcastle University from 1975 -79 and painting at the Royal College of Art from 1980-83. He was a Harkness Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1984-86.Gardiner's monograph 'The Art of Jeremy Gardiner: Unfolding Landscape' was published by Lund Humphries in 2013 that year Gardiner was awarded the prestigious Discerning Eye ING Art prize for 'Pendeen Lighthouse', the first painting in a series that would evolve into Pillars of Light, his sellout exhibition which took place in September, 2016 at The Nine British Art, St James's, London. His paintings have been exhibited in Europe, the USA, South America, and Japan. He has won numerous awards throughout his career including a Churchill Fellowship and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. Gardiner's paintings are represented in public and corporate collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Government Art Collection, BNP Paribas and Pincent Masons. His most recent exhibitions include Drawn to the Coast in 2017, and Tintagel to Lulworth in 2019. South by Southwest a recent touring museum exhibition was a journey to explore the modern-day reality of our coastline from Kent to Cornwall, looking afresh at the harbours, bays, coves, castles and follies that characterise the remarkable shoreline of the South Coast. The show was cut short by the pandemic in 2020, paintings from this body of work are on display at Linley Belgravia and The Nine British Art, St James's, London during summer 2021.The Nine British Art, 9 Bury Street, St James's, LondonMy work reflects a deep and long-term interest with the geology of landscape and how it is shaped by the forces of nature. In this piece, a study of the Purbeck limestone at Anvil Point my working method involves building accretions of paint on poplar panel and sanding them down, in an attempt to emulate on the surface of my paintings, the effects of geological time on the terrain. Landscape painting is thriving in the 21st Century, reasons may include our imminent environmental collapse and an increasingly digitally mediated existence. I believe if I can paint pictures that encompass an understanding of different landscapes their underlying structures, contours and unique history, then it is time well spent.

Deborah Azzopardi Last Night..., 2021 Acrylic on Paper Signed on front and verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About Deborah Azzopardi has been producing her distinctive, playful images for over 35 years. She is determined to enjoy life to the fullest, to express herself creatively, whether or not her work is commercially viable. Essential to her success is painting things that make her happy. Carl Melegari Favsto, 2021 Oil on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Bristol native Carl Melegari paints in a dramatic and bold style, focused primarily on human heads. Melegari held a lecturing post at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for many years, having graduated from the institution with a BA Hons in fine art. Carl is of Italian heritage, but born and raised in the United Kingdom. The artist tends to title his paintings with unique names reflecting his ancestry, at the same time infusing a touch of mystery as to the sitter's true identity. Melegari's unique painting process is a consideration and exploration of paint and its various behaviours when mixed and applied in different ways. His practice also involves revisiting the same portrait time and again, in some instances years after his most recent adjustments. Artist Statement   "I begin by applying an oil turpentine tonal wash to the figure. I apply various impasto layers of oil paints (I mix an alkyd medium with the oil to enable a better drying process) at times using a brush, but predominately palette knives. I occasionally scrape back layers only to reapply in the same area liberally, vigorously attacking the canvas. This is applied with bold applications of paint fused with thinned paint using either or sometimes a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine. All this allows the paint to interact with my application. I will allow the drips to run in different directions. The drying process can take weeks and quite often I will rework into the painting by peeling away and reworking the layers. I'm basically exploring the physicality of the paint and how it reacts with the surface - applying the paint generously and allowing it to drip spontaneously too."   Exhibitions 2020 Ffin y Parc Gallery - 10th anniversary exhibition. Richard Hoey Untitled, 2021 Acrylic on Card Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Born 1968 I am a British artist, living and working in Brazil since 2014. My paintings are constructed by layering images which are lifted directly from my environment such as Brazilian architecture and Urban design, text which is found in street advertising along with log-type images of palm trees and other natural forms which cause us to immediately of tropical places. By layering these elements over one another, the boundaries become blurred so the references to the natural and man-made become inseparable. I use this process to consider questions of identity in a cross culture world and the impact of globalisation. Drawing directly from my own experience of being a foreigner in Brazil which has a history of foreign invasion, the impact of which is very evident. Whether it be the scars on the natural landscape brought on by exploitation of natural resources and industry, the colonial architecture which gives witness to Brazil's past or the signs of globalisation through the presence of giant corporations. I bring visual references from these factors together in my work and by overlapping them, attempt to harmonise them aesthetically whilst contemplating the issues the work is concerned with. Education I have a formal background in Interior design. I am a self-taught artist and hold an MA in fine art from City & Guilds of London Art School since 2012. Exhibitions 2020 solo show - 'Tristes Tropiques', Online Show, After Nyne Contemporary, London 2018 group show - After Nyne Presents, After Nyne Gallery, London 2014 group show - Seven Deadly Sins, The Unit Gallery London UK 2013 group show - Black Country, Lion & Lamb Gallery,London UK 2012 Awarded Fenton Arts Trust Grant Gallery Representation I am currently represented by After Nyne Contemporary, London UK. About the postcard artworks The four small works submitted for AOAP employ colours and forms which can conjure up ideas of tropical places. The colours are intensified and saturated to the point of them appearing unnatural. This combination of the natural and artificial is based on ideas of the duality of the manmade and natural worlds.

Maïa Régis Fly Variation, 2021 Acrylic and Marker on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Artist statement: "I want to transform the canvases into living beings, into visceral surfaces. They have to be fed from chance, traces of work, dirt, cuts and seams. This year I used paper glued on canvas, coffee bags, old hessian postbags, ancient moth eaten French embroideries, and Sicilian embroidered white tablecloths. An unconventional and irregular canvas link to smells, noises, dialogues... It adds a cinematic feeling to it and the matter is for tactile sensations. What I'm looking for in my work is for it to be the most full of life possible. I need to work on a large scale, so that painting becomes a physical act. That's where I feel the more confident, the freer. I like to navigate in troubled waters, between the real and the imaginary. Ambiguity for me is the key to a lively work."   Education -Royal College of Art, London, MA Painting (2017-2019) -Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, BA Fine Arts (2014-2017) -Camberwell College of Art, Foundation diploma in Art and Design (2013) Awards and residencies -Elephant Lab, November residency, 2019 -Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2018 (selected by Benedict Drew, Katy Moran and Keith Piper) -Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2017 (selected by Caroline Achaintre, Elizabeth Price and George Shaw) -Griffin Art Prize 2017 (selected by Ansel Krut, Jenny Linden Urnes, Becca Pelly-Fry and Robert Shore) -FBA Futures 2018 Selected exhibitions -The First Swing of The Bat, Paint Talk exhibition, Gallery 46, London, UK (april 2021) -A Future Cast In Our Image, Grove Collective, London, UK (february 2021) -Inside/Outside, Janet Rady Fine Art, online exhibition, Arsty (february 2021) -International Gruppeudstilling, Curated by JB Fals, Grand Teatret, Copenhagen, Denmark (2020) -What Kind of Spirit Is This?, Sim Smith Gallery, London, UK (2019) -Cicatrices, VO Curations, 12th Floor, London, UK (2019) -Signori Prego Si Accomodino, Nuove / Contemporary Art Production, Palermo, Italy (2018) -Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2018, John Moore's University, Liverpool Biennial, UK -Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2018, South London Gallery, London, UK -Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2017, Baltic Center for Contemporary Art, Newcastle, UK -Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2017, Block 336, London, UK -Griffin Art Prize 2018, Griffin Gallery, London, UK -FBA Futures 2018, Main Gallery and Threadneedle Space, Mall Galleries, January, London, UK -More Life, Hockney Gallery, Royal College of Art, London, UK (2018)

Lottie Cole Little Fire Place, 2021 Watercolour on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Cole's paintings reflect her interest in Art History, provenance and the role women have played in both. She regularly looks to women artists & collectors of the past for affirmation, guidance and inspiration. She paints homes, not least because they are a realm of women, an area unlike most others where they are authored by women. Though people are rarely seen in her paintings, she believes the domestic interior contains considerable biography & human emotion from grief to celebration seen through the objects on the mantlepiece or the paintings on the wall. Cole began a Foundation at Wimbledon Art School and went on to study Art History at St Andrews University. She enjoys reading a picture, and as such likes her work to operate on different levels - the first simply an interior - the second the decoding of allusions and objects. While there is an obvious preoccupation with content in the pictures focus is given to the emotional impact of colour and physicality of paint. Cole works equally in oils as well as gouache & watercolour as they convey light and mass so readily. In 2019 she set up Minerva Workshop, in London which organises talented artists from up and down the country to give workshops and masterclasses. She also runs a weekly art group. In 2021 she was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Watercolour Society.   Exhibitions 2021 London Art Fair with Long & Ryle 2020 ING Discerning Eye Sunday Times Watercolour Competition Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary Watercolour Competition 2019 Selection of Work at Ainscough Gallery and Cricket Fine Art London & Hungerford, McAllister Thomas Godalming One the Square at Zimmer Stewart, Arundel - The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition Exhibition & Tour -March 8-20 Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary Watercolour Competition 2018 One the Square showcase, Forest Row, RH18 - The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition Exhibition & Tour - 'The Tetrarch & Other Stories' Cricket Fine Art - 'Recalled: Poetry & The London Library' London Review of Books Cafe

Luke Elwes Spring, 2021 Mixed Media on Paper Signed on verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) Luke Elwes was born in London (1961) and spent his early years in Iran, where the light and space of the desert were a formative influence. Luke Elwes' paintings are meditations on our place in the world. They often refer to particular journeys and to the passing of time. Education He holds degrees from Bristol University (1983) and UAL (Camberwell school of Art 1985), and completed his Masters in Art History at London University (Birkbeck) in 2007. Following a spell working at Christie's he began to travel and write, and after meeting Bruce Chatwin in 1987 he went to the central Australian desert to explore the landscape and its use in indigenous storytelling and artforms. Since then he has continued to travel extensively, discovering and revisiting remote locations in India, Asia and North Africa. In 1998 he was artist in residence on an expedition to Mount Kailash, a holy mountain in western Tibet. Since 2000 he has worked for extensive periods on an island off the East Coast of the UK. In 2013 he was awarded a grant to study at the Vermont Studio Center and in 2015 he was resident artist at the Albers Foundation (USA). The idea of a journey is central to his painting, both its physical and temporal unfolding and its recollection in memory. The surfaces recall maps, tracing the marks of history and the fragile signs of belief, and moving between what is revealed and concealed of these often empty and distant terrains. Rooted in the particular, the images also probe an interior space. The art critic Andrew Lambirth has written about them: 'The map is nearly erased, a distressed palimpsest; it is difficult to decipher a single clear meaning. The viewer must, like a scryer, read the signs and interpret accordingly'. More recently the writer Robert Macfarlane has described how 'they hover between encryption and archetype, enigma and fabulous openness' Exhibitions Since 1990 his work has been exhibited in the following galleries: Frestonian Gallery (London), Adam Gallery (London), Broadbent (London), Art First Contemporary (London), Browse & Darby (London), Art First (New York), Galerie Vieille du Temple (Paris), Galerie Marceau Bastille (Paris), Grand Palais (Paris), Palazzo Lanfranchi (Pisa), Galleria Ceribelli (Milan & Bergamo), Galleria Ghelfi (Vicenza). He has participated in shows at the following UK institutions: Royal Academy London, Christies London, Barbican Gallery London, National Trust, Estorick Collection London, Kettles Yard Cambridge, Southampton Art Gallery, Bury Art Gallery Manchester, Young Gallery Salisbury, Minories Colchester. He has also written about contemporary art for journals including Modern Painters, Royal Academy Magazine, Galleries Magazine, Abstract Critical and other digital platforms. In 2011 he was invited to give an 'Artist's Eye' talk at the National Gallery.

Surrounding yourself with art is an effective way of preventing and treating a variety of conditions, especially those that came up recently with this pandemic, such as depression, anxiety and paranoia. Trying to reflect states of the external world these two portraits reflects my inner state. Art as a representation of outer existence through the expression of humans inner life.
