Josie Clouting Collecting Colours II, 2021 Acrylic on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Josie immerses herself in the landscape, from man made cultivated botanic gardens to wild stormy beaches and the rolling hills where she lives. Her paintings are intuitive, emotional responses to her natural environment, inspired by the vastness and wonder of the natural world. Josie's works are saturated with colour, vitality and energy, reflecting her response to light, atmosphere and topography. Jarek Puczel Couple, 2021 Acrylic on Paper Signed on verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) Looking at my work, you will undoubtedly come across many stories of romantic love. Being a careful observer of this kind of love inspires me to portray it in a bitter-sweet duality. Some of these experiences are my personal, others I have attracted through emotional resonance, somehow accessing others people's stories. From a larger perspective, it doesn't matter what is "mine or yours", as most of us go through similar experiences. Working in a common mental field allows me to overcome my innate introversion and gives me a liberating sense of development and self-transcendence. I try to find a balance between the sensuality of the depiction and the clarity of the ideas presented. To weaken the identification with a specific realistic embodiment, I reduce and intensify the form of my work. Consciously minimize facial features, avoiding man's individual aspects and emphasize their "intimate anonymity". I accept the projective nature of my paintings and I am pleased with their semantic independence. Peter Clark Free as a Bird Collage on Paper Signed on verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) London based collage artist Peter Clark is widely known for his whimsical collage art. He uses a collection of found papers, which are colored, patterned or textured by their printed, written or worn surfaces. He shades with density of print and creates substance and movement with lines plucked from old maps or manuscripts. His pieces use mark making in an innovative and humorous way to create his subjects. From animals created from maps, labels and discarded tickets, to garments carefully crafted from gift wrapping, musical scores and love letters, Peter Clark has the rare ability to turn ordinary printed matter into exquisite works of art with character, beauty and wit. Whether at antiques fair in Sussex, or further afield to flea markets in France, USA, Japan and India, he travels far and wide to source materials for his next pieces.   Education   Manchester College of Art and Design 1st, Class BA (Hons) Exhibitions 'Frocks & Dogs & Beyond' (working title) Portland Gallery, London Group show, Gilman Contemporary, Sun Valley, Idaho 'Boom Chicka Boom' Portland Gallery, London / 'Paper Offerings' Gilman Contemporary, Sun Valley, Idaho 'Double Dog Dare' Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, New York 'REM!X' Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, London 'SHOWTIME' Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, London 'HOTdog' Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, New York 'Dogs are for christmas not just for life' Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, London Paul Smith Globe Gallery, T5 Heathrow Showing off, Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, London Here's looking at you kid, Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, London ...What comes around goes around... Sarah Louise Hawkins Arcase, 2021 Acrylic on Watercolour Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) My practice is predominantly focused on exploring the spatial and optical capacities of colour, form, pattern and surface through painting, drawing and sculpture. The work is non-representational and often self-referential - shapes and patterns from one work will inform and inspire the composition of the next. This symbiotic relationship sees patterns, colours and forms appearing and transforming in a multitude of ways across all media. About the postcard artworks These works are more intimate in scale, both in the postcard format but also in the close-up, cropped perspective of the images themselves which I feel complements the subject matter well. They speak to a tenderness and resilience, nurtured like a plant, which resides inside all women.

She is an elected professional member of Visual Arts Scotland. As a painter, Julie-Ann Simpson is interested in the porous boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, dreams and reality. The paintings sit in that transitional place, often beginning as representations, but eventually seem to slip into ambiguous afterimages. About the postcard artworks These works are more intimate in scale, both in the postcard format but also in the close-up, cropped perspective of the images themselves which I feel complements the subject matter well. They speak to a tenderness and resilience, nurtured like a plant, which resides inside all women.

In my early 20's a childhood friend of mine passed away and at the same time I started to see grandparents get older and the realization that we are not invincible and "nothing lasts forever" started to set in. The ghosts were born from that anxiety and an attempt to create a friendly and non-threatening relationship with death. The works are in a sense not about dying but rather a reminder to live life to the fullest. More recently the works started to contain short vague phrases. I wanted to keep the sayings simple and open to interpretation as each person viewing the work will have their own personal relationship with the words.

Una Ursprung White Tulip, 2021 Watercolour and Acrylic Spray on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Una Ursprung's work is filled with mountains, forests, trees, and flowers. Born in Taipei, the artist has spent much of her life between Taiwan, France, and Switzerland, constantly refreshing her appreciation for sprawling natural landscapes. In these countries, Ursprung enjoyed pastoral, tranquil lifestyles which have inspired her sublime, airy works. Her canvases are dual-layered: a highly realistic natural background is superimposed by a layer of abstract detail, created using oils or acrylic spray paint. Sometimes these abstract details look like pastel oil spills; large, colourful shapes pooling on the surface. At other times, the marks made by the artist are shorter, finer lines, more like microscopic images of bacteria. The artist refers to this layer as a way to capture pollution, whether it be the man-made variety or the fleeting objects in the air, like dust, insects, or leaves, as in her forest sketches. These shapes are trapped in suspension, freezing the moment in front of us and immortalising the ever-chang-ing natural landscape. The spray-painted layer adds to the atmosphere of her landscapes, making them seem deeper and more real, while paradoxically appearing to be flat. The spray
is applied with a loose control, matching the artist's mission to depict, rather than conquer, the landscapes she shows. While Ursprung captures a moment in nature, the contrast of her two layers (one conventional and naturalistic, one wild and abstract) reminds us
that the natural world remains elusive. Unlike traditional landscape painters of the past, Ursprung does not pretend to have mastered her scenes, rather she shows them as ever-changing, unconquerable scenes deserving of our awe. These paintings are conceptually more complex than
a quick once-over viewing would suggest: they're not landscapes interrupted by separate, abstract motifs, they're a completed whole, made up by a balance of the two styles. Ursprung has found a way to harmonise the two artistic approaches that appeal to her most and, by combining the abstract with the realistic, challenges us with a version of nature that is both tangible and splendid. Una Ursprung Rose, 2021 Watercolour and Acrylic Spray on Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Una Ursprung   Una Ursprung's work is filled with mountains, forests, trees, and flowers.

Norman: "(Lairesse's) illustrations eerily juxtapose meticulously realistic images of flayed corpses or body parts with objects of everyday life. (they) were an occasion for an artistic meditation on anatomy.(He) brought the qualities of Dutch still-life paintings into anatomical illustrations, and gave a new darker spiritual expression to the significance of the art of dissection." - Tafel 10 (v. 2 Platten) stark lädiert, in zwei Teile mit Schäden zerfallen, jedoch von der Darst. her restaurierbar; sie war als Klapptafel eingebunden. Lot 29

Two leaves from an early Psalter-Hours, with numerous penwork drolleries of a hanged man, a cow chased by a dog playing a musical instrument and others, in Latin, illuminated manuscript on parchment [Flanders, or perhaps Rhineland, third quarter of the thirteenth century] Two leaves, each with single column of 20 lines in an angular early gothic bookhand, 2-line initials in blue or gold with contrasting penwork, the leaf with modern foliation '34' in upper outer corner with a large initial 'I' (opening 'Iuste iudex ...', see below) formed from a youthful David holding a sword and standing within a green tower topped with a gold parapet, a red and green dragon biting at the foot of the tower, and another penwork dragon used as a line-filler, other geometric line-fillers in colours and gold, this leaf somewhat stained in centre, discoloured and cockled, trimmed at top removing top of parapet and at innermost edge removing part of tail of dragon; and the leaf with modern foliation '202' with penwork scene of a man being hung in the upper margin, with a figure each side drawing up ropes as he dangles from a scaffold, a cow with a bell around its neck being chased by a dog, as the cow plays a musical instrument (perhaps a hirtenschalmei, a shepherd's shawm, as often played by rustics in medieval art), and three other bird-headed drolleries, one of whom plays a similar instrument, two contemporary repairs, and similar trimming at head removing the top of the hanging scene; both overall fair and presentable condition, 177 by 134mm. Provenance:1. Produced as a lavish commission for a nun (one of the collects of another leaf mentioning 'our abbess'), most probably in Flanders or the Rhineland (with previous attempts at localisation including England, eastern France and lower Lorraine). The opulent level of decoration has been taken to suggest that the original owner of the book may have been royal.2. Broken and widely dispersed in the 1960s, with leaves in the collection of Carl Richartz, Amsterdam by 1966. A part of this dispersal was undertaken by Folio Fine Art, with leaves initially appearing there in their cat. 43 in February 1967, and the leaf foliated '202' here has an erased inscription on its reverse recording their stock number 'MS 2617', and a price: '£10.10. 0'. Alan Thomas and Maggs also sold leaves in this decade (see P. Kidd, The McCarthy Collection, II, 2019, no. 20, and the list of known leaves in Sotheby's, 7 July 2015, lot 13, not including these here).3. These leaves acquired from a UK private collector in 2006 (leaf foliated '202') and from a North American private collector in 2019 (leaf foliated '34'). Text:The two leaves here contain part of the Athanasian Creed (leaf foliated '202') and prayers, including one to Christ 'Iuste iudex ihesu Christe rex regum et domine ...' (leaf foliated '34').
