MAN UTD / CHELSEA United home programme v Chelsea, 30/4/55, Chelsea first Championship season , final game, slight fold, very small cover mark, pencil half-time scores. Worth reading if only to see the "With the Juniors" page which details the scores of the United Junior teams, the three junior teams reached double figures in a match eighteen times with numerous eights and nines. A large Chelsea basket, the interior painted with three colourful long-tailed birds amidst foliage, the pierced sides evenly applied with small blue flowerheads, the handles issuing from trailing pink flowers, brown anchor mark, c.1763, minor damages and restoration, 28cm. An unusual Chelsea figure of Winter, modelled by Joseph Willems as a bearded man in a white greatcoat and fur-lined hat, holding a basket of hot coals, his eyes downcast, red anchor mark, c.1755, some good restoration, 13.3cm. Cf. Arthur Lane, English Porcelain Figures of the 18th Century, pl.18 for the series in the V&A.
A Chelsea chamberstick fable group, of The Vain Jackdaw, two peacocks stripping the unfortunate bird of his stolen plumage before blossoming bocage, raised on a wide scrolling base, gold anchor mark, c.1765, some damage, the sconce lacking, 18.5cm. Cf. Chelsea Porcelain from the collection of Irwin Untermeyer, pl.47 for a titled example.
A Chelsea Derby two-handled cup and cover, richly decorated with bands of peacock feather eyes in pink, green and gilt, beneath gilded floral garlands on a cobalt blue ground, the cup`s interior painted with a large flower spray, interlaced gilt anchor and D mark, c.1775, good restoration to the finial, 12cm.
