Hutchinson, the rim inscribed 1969-70, with ring suspension, in original case Chelsea recorded their first-ever F.A.Cup final win this season. In the replayed final played on 29th April 1970 at Old Trafford, Chelsea defeated Leeds United 2-1. The first match, played at Wembley, ended in a 2-2 draw. Ian Hutchinson played a major part in the victory as he scored Chelsea`s equalising goal in their first match in the 86th minute

A copy of the original catalogue to this sale accompanies this lot Note: John Thomas Young Gilroy was born in Newcastle and studied art there, before attending the Royal College of Art. He rose to fame as the artist who lead Guiness advertsing campaigns, notably the Toucan and other animals. In addition, he was a noted portrait painter who was particularly popular with the Royal Family. A Chelsea Arts Club member, Gilroy showed extensively at the Royal Academy and elsewhere. Football. F.A. Cup Semi-Final, March 27, 1920, Bristol City v. Huddersfield Town, the Chelsea F.C. Chronicle Official Programme, vol. XV. No. 37, 4pp., cover with Grand National illustration “Favourites Both for the Big Jump” by Bernhard Hugh, a few creases, 4to. The semi-final was played at Stamford Bridge, with Huddersfield winning 2-1, meeting Aston Villa in the final, (Villa winning 1-0 in extra time), also played at Stamford Bridge, the first final after the end of the First World War. A set of three George II silver graduated tea caddies or condiment vases and covers, each cover with tapering foliate knop finial above fluting and undulating rim, the pentagonal lobed body with oval guilloche border above later engraved crest, inscribed `Feroci Fortior`, each reeded tapering base raised on a spiral fluted undulating pentagonal foot, London 1743 by Nicholas Sprimont, heights approx 15cm and 14cm, together with three Onslow pattern ladles (some faults). Note: Nicholas Sprimont (1716-1771) was born in Liège and apprenticed as silversmith to his uncle Nicholas Joseph Sprimont. He came to England in 1742 and worked as a silversmith until he founded the Chelsea Porcelain Factory in 1745. Owing to the shortness of his time as a silversmith, Nicholas Sprimont`s work is considered extremely rare and important. His best-known pieces are in The Royal Collection.
