1991 Porsche 944 Turbo Transmission: manualMileage:115040Following the international success of the 924, a more powerful Porsche designed all-alloy, 2.5 litre, inline four engine was introduced in 1982 for the 944. Porsche engineers were able to produce a very smooth-running engine by utilising two counter-rotating balance shafts running at twice engine speed making the four-cylinder engine feel as smooth as a six. Cosmetically, the bodywork was revised with wider wheel arches, a fresh interior and upgrades to the braking and suspension systems also being added. The Turbo was a far superior car to the normally aspirated models. From 1989-1991 the 'SE' specification was adopted for the standard 944 Turbo, with the 1991 cars running a more attractive fibreglass spoiler. This lovely Porsche 944 Turbo has effectively had one owner from new, purchased in 1991 by the Lambert Fenchurch Group for the sole use of Mr. D H Griffiths. He liked the car so much that he acquired the car from the company in 1998 and has been the registered keeper since. From 2002 it has been fully maintained by marque specialists Chelsea Carrera based in High Wycombe and if the car required any work, it was carried out regardless of cost. Recently it has been refurbished cosmetically; all the glass was removed, the car prepared and repainted in the original colour of Baltic Blue metallic. The interior was retrimmed in the correct blue materials supplied by Southbound Trimmers and the wheels refurbished. It has also received a major service and had the cambelts replaced. This 944 Turbo is supplied with a V5C registration document in Mr. Griffiths name, an MoT test certificate which expires in March 2023, a file containing invoices from 2002 totalling over £30,000, a letter about the transfer of the car and a number of old MoT test certificates. This is a highly desirable 944, one for the serious enthusiast of the front-engined Porsche.
2008 Mercedes-Benz CL600 Transmission: automaticMileage:45500The CL Class is the coupé derivative of the S Class full size luxury saloon, upon which it shares the same platform. Formerly known as the SEC (Sonderklasse Einspritzmotor Coupé) and later S Coupé. After six years of development, the third generation was officially unveiled at the end of June 2006 and was presented at the 2006 Paris Salon. Like its predecessors, the C216 has no B pillar interrupting the sleek curve of the side windows. W216 is offered in four models, each with its own engine and transmission, the 5.5L V8-powered CL 500 the high-performance 6.2L V8-powered CL 63 AMG the ultra-luxury twin-turbo 5.5L V12-powered CL 600 and, lastly, the CL 65 AMG with a twin-turbo 6.0L V12 engine. The C216 makes use of the Distronic Plus cruise control, which debuted on the 2007 S-Class. This system is able to bring the car to a complete stop, and accelerate again to the pre-set speed, to keep a pre-set distance away from the car ahead of it. This Mercedes-Benz CL has also debuted with the new Active NightVision program that enables drivers to view the conditions in front of the car despite the dark surroundings. This flagship CL600 is presented in Metallic Silver with a contrasting leather trim. Offered with a comprehensive service history, this example was originally registered and serviced in Ireland and brought into the UK in 2017. It was recently serviced in January 2022 at Mercedes-Benz Chelsea at 45,127. These Coupés are renowned for their opulence and ability to eat up mileage and with the V12 engine and such low mileage, this example is certainly impressive.
1979 Rolls-Royce Corniche Transmission: paddleMileage:51800The Corniche was Rolls-Royce's coupé and convertible version of the Silver Shadow produced between 1971 and 1996. The Corniche was named 'Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward two door fixed head coupé' before 1971 when the Corniche name was applied. The exterior design was by John Polwhele Blatchley. The independent coach maker James Young had already custom-made a two-door coupe variant of the Silver Shadow, but Young's model proved less popular and was soon discontinued. The model was assembled and finished in London at Mulliner Park Ward as continuation of the 1965 Silver Shadow coupé and 1967 drophead. The Corniche was also sold as a Bentley, though that model became known as the Continental in 1984. The first car to wear the Corniche name was a 1939 prototype based on the Bentley Mk. V which was never produced because of the onset of World War II. The Corniche was available both as a coupé and convertible, with the former discontinued in 1982. The car used the standard Rolls-Royce V8 engine. It had an aluminium-silicon alloy block and aluminium cylinder heads with cast iron wet cylinder liners. The bore was 4.1 in and the stroke was 3.9 in for a total of 6.75 litres. Twin SU carburettors were initially fitted with a single Solex four barrel carburettor introduced in 1975. A four-wheel independent suspension with coil springs was augmented with a hydraulic self-levelling system at first on all four, but later in the rear wheels only. Four wheel disc brakes were specified, with ventilated discs added for 1972. This particular example is the ultra-rare 5000 series. These were in production however for less than three years and very few were produced, just over 300 we believe. They benefitted from the underpinnings of the new Silver Spirit with hydropneumatics self-levelling suspension, modified with Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control system and gas-charged shock absorbers. The braking was also updated to Silver Spirit specification using the new Mineral oil system. This car has been in the same ownership for the last 25 years, during which time much expenditure has been spent on the car with specialists including the Chelsea Workshop in the 1980s, where it was serviced no less than 22 times between 1982 and 1991 and it was at that time in this wonderful car's history that it was fitted with the desirable Harvey Bailey suspension. In 1983 it had a speedometer change at 25,510 miles. The car was extensively restored in the late 1990s when the engine was rebuilt, re trimmed and had a full bare metal re spray in the colour you see today blue/black. A full photographic record of this restoration is included in the history file. Also, this Rolls Royce is fitted with the rare and desirable factory fitted sunroof and comes with cream leather interior, air conditioning and electric windows. It is also important to note that it is Tax, MoT exempt and Ulez free! A truly rare luxury British coupe highly sought after by connoisseurs around the world. Offered with No Reserve, this surely must be one of the best opportunities available today!

Hughes, Gerald Benney Goldsmiths The Story of Fifty Years at the Bench, Alfriston, 1998, pp. 155-159, Gerald Benney was an astute businessman. Perhaps nothing provides better evidence of this than the royalty he negotiated with Viners of Sheffield, for whom he designed between 1957 and 1969. While he was earning a salary of some £2,000 a year the 1.5% royalty brought him in as much as £60,000 annually, earning him more than the chairman of the company. Besides designing flatware, as well as other items, for Viners he involved himself in improving manufacturing techniques to avoid the wastage which had previously been the norm in the industry. The bulk of his commission was from four stainless steel flatware patterns, Chelsea, Studio, Design 70 and Sable. Each was typified by shallow bowls which allowed automatic robot polishing. The present pattern, which is sometime referred to as Guild, the name inscribed on the boxes in which the present service is contained, doesn’t seem to be among the published patterns, but instead seems to be a variation of Design 70, which has the same truncated Fiddle pattern handle but which is lacking the distinctive swirls which make the present pattern stand out. Each piece marked on back of handle. In generally as new condition with only some minor scratching. The boxes with scuffing and general wear.
