Peter Storey’s Arsenal 1970-71 double-winning medals, comprising: a 9ct. gold F.A. Cup winner’s medal inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION CHALLENGE CUP, WINNERS, PETER STOREY, ARSENAL F.C.; and a 9ct. gold Football League medal plaque, inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, CHAMPIONS, DIVISION 1, 1970-71, P.E. STOREY, ARSENAL F.C., mounted on a wooden backboard with easel support. In season 1970-71 Arsenal won the double. They won a dramatic League Title race narrowly overcoming Leeds United by a single point thanks to an 88th minute Ray Kennedy goal at arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the last game of the season. Five days later Arsenal came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 in extra time of the F.A. Cup final.
A George III oak and flamed mahogany veneered long case clock with swan neck pillared hood, three quarter length trunk door with canted sides on bracket feet, the painted dial having cows under a bridge to the arch, shells to the spandrels, Roman hour numerals, seconds ring and date crescent and marked D. Gugeri, Boston, eight day movement striking a bell, 85" high.
A Fine Quality Mid 19th Century Porcelain & Ormolu Clock Garniture Set. The flared clock case having a porcelain inset front with a ring of Roman numeral cartouches encircling a scenic centre panel depicting woman gathering flowers & cherubs with dove signed Klaktenberger, Regent Street, on a cobalt blue ground enriched with gilded Neo-classical foliage. The broken arch pediment festooned in a garland of flowers and surmounted by the bust of a classical goddess raised on a scotia with sphinxes sat proudly either side of the breakfront base. The whole mounted on a velvet topped giltwood stand with ribbon twist moulding, 16 ins (40 cms) overall in height. The candelabra each having two candle cups projecting either side on foliate scroll arms with a central tapered painted porcelain column surmounted by an urn finial and leading down to conforming giltwood stands, 15 ins (38 cms) high.
A Fine Quality 19th Century Carved Walnut Dressing Mirror, possibly Swiss. The arch topped swing looking-glass in a moulded frame surmounted by a caressing couple entwined in branches with sheep's head terminal and flowers. The upright supports rising from the backs of recumbent lions and adorned with winged angels sat amidst trailing foliage with eagle end finials and quatrefoil blooms. The base having a D-ended dish, 26 ins x 21 ins (66 cms x 53 cms).
A Delightful 19th Century Gilt Framed Pier Mirror. The arch topped bevel-edged glass set in a moulded gilt frame with ribbon twist border and beaded inner edge. The top surmounted by a delicate gesso-work garland of roses, flowers,foliage and berries tied in a loop to the centre with a flowing ribbon bow, 64 ins x 34 ins (163 cms x 86 cms).
A 19th Century Chiming Bracket Clock striking nine bells. The ebonised case with caddy top surmounted by urn & torch brass finials. The glazed arch door with gilt brass foliated frame enclosing the silvered chapter ring, with eight day movement and two subsidiary dials engraved; CHIME/SILENT & CHIME ON EIGHT BELLS/WESTMINSTER CHIMES, bordered by gilt brass pierced spandrels. The canted edges ornamented with figural brass appliqués, standing 30 ins (76 cms) high. 16½ ins (42 cms) wide and 9½ ins (24 cms) deep.
A Fine Regency Rosewood Chiffonier. The back crested with carved foliate scrolls and fitted with a shelf. The frieze housing a long drawer inlaid with scrolling brass embellishments and stringing above two similarly inlaid doors framing arch topped grilles of gilt trellis work backed in watered silk and adorned with rosette studs. The moulded pilasters leading down to reeded bun feet, 31½ ins (80 cms) wide, 19½ ins (50 cms) deep and 52 ins (132 cms) in height.
A Pretty 19th Century Painted Mahogany Display Cabinet. The upper section surmounted by a moulded broken arch pediment decorated with foliate sprays above cross-banding, a painted frieze of floral garlands and two glazed doors with astrigal moulded figure-of-eight glazing bars and a shelved interior backed in blue watered silk. The door frames painted with strings of bell-flowers and beads. The base section having two long bow-front drawers inlaid with satinwood cross-banding edged in stringing and painted with paterae and scrolling trails of flowers & foliage with gilt brass ribbon-tied reeded swing handles on beaded mounts. The square tapering legs on bulb feet united by a galleried under-shelf painted with a floral swag, 365 ins (92 cms) wide, 83 ins (211 cms) high.
A Tall Chippendale Style Carved Mahogany Musical Longcase Clock. The 12 inch (31 cms) brass dial having a roundel plaque to the arch inscribed with maker's name; Thos. Henderson Hull, decorated with scrolling mounts & spandrels, and framed by a blind-fret carved dome-topped door with stop fluted columns either side; the gilt Corinthian style capitals bearing a heavy swan-neck pediment ornamented with carved sprays of foliage and surmounted by a foliate crest. The arch topped trunk door edged in moulding and adorned with interlaced C-scrolls and foliage flanked by canted blind-fret carved corners. The base with further applied foliate carving raised on bracket feet, 102 ins (60 cms) in height.
A Miniature Mahogany Longcase Clock. The 7 inch (18 cms) brass dial having a silvered chapter ring encircling a matted centre with winged cherub head spandrels and scrolling mounts flanking a convex plaque to the arch inscribed Tempus Fugit. The hood surmounted by a gadrooned swan-neck pediment with carved rosettes to the terminals and lavish scrolls with undulating acanthus above fluted side columns. The trunk enhanced with a carved band of foliate scrolls with recessed reeded quarter columns flanking the shaped edge-moulded door and leading down to a brick-work base, 57 ins (145 cms) high.
