Lot 353

14th-15th century A.D. An iron long sword of Oakeshott's miscellaneous type, cross style 5, pommel style H1, with a long tapering two-edged blade, broad at the hilt, sharp reinforced point and a shallow but once well marked fuller on the upper two-thirds; the blade bearing remains of an inlaid latten design to each face, a trapezoidal banded shield to one face and a Passau Wolf to the other (marks of the armourers); various signs of battle nicks along the edges on both sides have slightly reduced the width of the blade; narrow lower guard with flared ends in style 5, the quillons tapering to squared ends; broad flat tang and long grip, hexagonal pommel chamfered to the lateral edges; possibly of German origin. Cf. Oakeshott, E., The sword in the Age of the Chivalry, Woodbridge, 1964 (1994); Oakeshott, E., Records of the Medieval Sword, Woodbridge, 1991; Scalini, M., A bon droyt, Spade di uomini liberi, cavalieri e Santi/Epées d'hommes libres, chevaliers et saints, Milano, 2007; very similar sword in Oakeshott, 1991, p.223, no.6; another sword of the same typology in Cerreto Guidi, Museo Storico della Caccia e del Territorio (Historical Museum of hunt and territory), Firenze (Scalini, 2007, pp.142-143). 1.95 kg, 1.14 m long (45 in). Acquired 1960s-1990s. Late Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister. Accompanied by an academic report by military specialist Dr Raffaele D'Amato. It seems reasonable to suppose that these big ‘war swords’, especially if they could also be used with two hands, may have been carried in two different ways. In 1372 A.D. a certain D'Orronville describes …David Olegreve qui…portait deux espées, une ceinte et l'autre a l'arcon de la selle (David Olegrave who.wore two swords, one at the belt and the other at the arch of the saddle). The presence of the 16th century A.D. Passau wolf on the blade, if not added later, could support the thesis that the sword was a product of German sword maker. Fine condition.

2011 Land Rover 110 XS Defender Transmission: manualMileage:The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. A full-length bonnet, revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles are the most noticeable changes. Internally, coil springs offered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel drive system derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interior and a new series of progressively more powerful and modern engine characterised things under the skin. In August 2011, Land Rover announced an update of the Defender for the 2012 model year. By this time, Land Rover publicly acknowledged that it was working on a project to produce an all-new replacement for the Defender. Then in line for the 2012 models was the installation of a different engine Ford decided, due to cost reasons, not to modify the engine introduced in 2007 and so the engine was replaced with the ZSD-422 engine, essentially a 2.2-litre variant of the same engine. This fabulous 110 Defender was originally registered on 24th March 2011. It has just had some £36,000 spent on it turning the vehicle into a brute to drive. The engine has been replaced with a brand new 5.3 litre Corvette unit. This is mated to short-shift gearbox, the performance of this Defender is breathtaking and must be driven to be fully appreciated. Finished in metallic red with black part leather interior and featuring creature comforts like air conditioning and heated seats, additional equipment includes sidesteps and LED lights. It is easily apparent the vendor has left no stone unturned in creating this unique Land Rover. A mere 800 miles has been covered since the work was completed. A significant history folder accompanies this 110 Defender XS, including a V5C registration document and receipts for the work carried out, as an added bonus the car is ULEZ compliant. Inspection is recommended to fully appreciate the extent and quality of the work carried out.

Lot 160

2005 Land Rover 90 County TD5 Transmission: manualMileage:48250The Land Rover Defender was developed in the 1980s from the original Land Rover series that was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show in April 1948. This four-wheel drive vehicle was the British equivalent of the American Willys Jeep. Built using a steel ladder chassis and aluminium bodywork the Defender gained a worldwide reputation for ruggedness and versatility. This 2005 Land Rover SWB 90 with the 2.5 litre diesel engine is presented in black with matching wheels sitting on nearly new Cooper tyres, new Corbeau seats to the front and the rear seats changed for standard Bearmach seats creating a six-seat configuration. The owner has upgraded the exterior of this example to include side steps, a new front bumper, upgraded wheels with spacers, Bearmach LED Lights fitted all round, wheel arch covers, MOMO steering, new wing mirrors, handbrake lever, new mudflaps, rear step and rear windows tinted, and towbar. To the cabin with the new seats, we also find a modern Pioneer Stereo with Apple Car Play capabilities; it displays a reversing camera when engaged, has upgraded speakers and an adjustable base box subtly behind the centre armrest. The centre armrest box with Union Jack is a new addition, which is also lockable. The underside has been cleaned and dried, underseal treatment carried out and rear trailing arm bushes replaced with poly-bushes. Showing a remarkable 48,250 miles from new the servicing schedule has been 2008, 2015, 2021 (April), and then again in May 2021 when the car was serviced and all upgrades fitted. Due to the popularity security hinges, made by Optimill, have been fitted to the front doors and bonnet. A hidden button has been fitted and the ignition will not turn unless this button has been pressed whilst turning the key. This is coupled with a factory fitted alarm with the fob unlocking all doors. MoT'd until January 2023 we are informed it starts perfectly every time, cruises comfortably at 60mph and has importantly not been de-restricted or chipped for extra horsepower. The engine is standard so the new owner can benefit from an unmolested 2495 TD5 engine.

Lot 200

2007 Aston Martin Vanquish S Transmission: Mileage:75693A total of 1,086 Vanquish S models were manufactured between 2005 and 2007 and it was debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. Offering a power increase from 460bhp to 520bhp, other changes included new wheels, a slightly different nose shape, new raised boot lid with a larger integrated spoiler and the addition of a small front splitter for aerodynamic reasons which help the Vanquish S boast an improved drag coefficient. The car also featured an optional Sports Dynamic Package which incorporated sportier suspension, steering and larger brakes than the standard V12 Vanquish. With a top speed exceeding 200mph, the Vanquish S was, at the time, the fastest Aston Martin ever produced. This stunning Aston Martin Vanquish S with the fabulous 6.0 litre V12, presented in Tungsten Silver (same as in the Bond film) with Obsidian Black interior and quilted headlining is a very sought-after model, having always been garaged which is evident by the great condition the car is in. Optional extras fitted by the factory were an engine pre-heater, Bluetooth, Red Brake Calipers (replaced with new original gold ones last year), console storage box, body coloured door release, front stone guards, heated front screen and desirable 2+2 seating. Offered with a full service history and more recently benefitting from a full clutch replacement and two new fuel pumps by Aston Service, Dorset just 200 miles ago. During the most recent full service in 2021 the car also benefitted from all the possible upgrades that they have to offer, with David Such having spent a lot of time researching the potential issues known about these cars and producing parts to prevent these from happening. These upgrades fitted last year include AP Racing discs attached to new high grade anodised aluminium bells which carry a different bobbin design and much improved anti-rattle springs to eliminate the brake rattle issues. Also included were Ferodo Race Pads all round, aluminium wheel arch liner brackets which replaced the existing steel ones equalling zero corrosion to the tub, front water manifold pipes coupled to a full set of upgraded radiator hoses, a replacement misfire module shields and fuse cover box. Under bonnet side panels, Black stainless steel bolt kit for the undertrays and all other fixings exposed to the elements under the car were also replaced along with K&N cone air filters to replace the OEM single cylinder filter. Also replaced was the rear exhaust muffler/back box, it was replaced with a Quicksilver Sport version instead which sounds amazing!! Everything else on the car is as per factory fitted standard specification, over £15,000 has been spent on this car last year to future proof it for the next owner. In all other respects this car is in immaculate condition and must been seen. Just having their 20th anniversary this year, the Vanquish is officially the last hand made cars made by Aston Martin and therefore suitably collectable and are appreciating in value nicely.

Zu Hoffmanns Schülern zählten u. a.
