Case is generally in good condition with some small cracks to veneer and the occasional light scratch commensurate with age. The right hand side of the moulding below the top canopy appears to have a chip where the two pieces of moulding connect. The pierced wood on both sides of the clock has damage. The left hand side as you face the clock has more damage with almost all of the pierced latticework broken off and missing. On the right hand side there are three or four parts of the lattice missing on the bottom left hand side. There is further damage to the wood as you open the door to reveal the face where three parts of the surrounding wood to the face are cracked with one cracked and displaying some loss. The face itself is in good condition with slight age related discolouring to the metal and a possibility that either the hour or minute hand is not original as they don't match. Looking at the movement through the back of the clock, the movement has almost certainly been taken out at some point and there are at least two screws missing from the brackets which hold the movement on to the case and as mentioned in the description the bells are missing from the back of the movement. Also visible from the back of the clock the piece of moulding on the right hand side of the door is loose at the top and the moulding that surrounds the top of the clock has also been chipped on the right hand side and there is a gap where the mouldings meet. But overall presents well. Charterhouse does not guarantee the working condition of any watches or clocks.
A longcase clock, the 28 cm arch square brass dial signed Dunston, Falmouth, with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, engraved scrolling foliage and ships, the arch decorated a naval engagement and Britannia, dated 12 April 1782, fitted an eight day movement, in a mahogany case, with a pendulum, two keys and weights, 218 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by RB The profile of the brass arch tracks the profile of the hood arch pretty well, probably originally silvered, the movement is dirty, dusty and covered in cobwebs and has clearly not run for sometime, the hood is generally in good condition, with a couple of teeth missing from the dentil cornice, the case is in generally good condition again, the hinges appear to be original, and the trunk door not warped. The base is good again, although the plinth section is probably later. Overall a very much in a market fresh condition, from a local deceased estate, now requiring some repair/restoration.
An automata longcase clock, the 33.5 cm arched square painted dial signed Thos House, Marlborough, with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, the arch with Adam & Eve, lions, tigers and other animals, fitted an eight day movement, striking on a bell, in an inlaid mahogany case, with two weights, two keys and a pendulum, 227 cm high (over finials) See illustration Condition report Report by GH Case is in good condition with some splitting to veneer, chips, scratches and marks commensurate with age. The glass has a crack to the top right, just underneath the dome which is barely visible. There is some uneven sun fading focused on the right hand side of the case and particularly evident at the bottom. The case presents very well. There does not appear to be any damage or obvious restoration. The painted clock face is crazed all over with some chips around the edges and in the date aperture. The Adam and Eve automata are in good condition. The clock face does not appear to have been repainted. Movement appears complete and in good condition with no obvious damage or pieces missing. Bell is present, as are two weights and pendulum. There is a solder repair to the hour hand. Overall in good condition and presents very well. Charterhouse does not guarantee the working condition of any watches or clocks.
A longcase clock, the 32 cm arched square painted dial signed Willm Bower, Chesterfield, with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, the arch with a phase of the moon, fitted an eight day movement, in a mahogany case, with two keys, two weights and a pendulum, 226 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by GH Case generally in good condition with occasional chips, scratches and dents commensurate with age, split to the veneer on the frieze below the clock face, and another split horizontally below this. The clock face itself in good condition with some possible repainting and refreshing. Cheeks have been chopped and resized. In our opinion this movement and face are probably not originally from this case.
