Thomas Sturton - 17th Century bronze hearth skillet raised on three feet. Bears the makers mark of Thomas Sturton II and the scrathced four arch “flower” mark of his South Petherton (Somerset, England) foundry between 1658 and 1681. Made from leaded bronze it now stands at a slight angle due to the two feet opposite the handle having been worn down by centuries of being dragged in and out of the hearth. Another interesting feature is the small “mound” to the left of the “T” maker’s mark. This is thought to be the indentation made by the finger of the maker as he scratched his mark into the wet mold. L 41cm, Diameter 18.5cm.
