A very good copy in modern quarter morocco. Wing J 947. The text was 1 Corinthians chapter XV, verses 24-28. A Latin funeral oration that had been delivered "in the name of the University of Dublin, at the herse of him their vice-chancellor" was included in this pamphlet. Sweeney 2618. Sidney Harold Meteyard RBSA - A portrait miniature on ivory of a young girl in profile with hair pleated and wrapped around her crown, dressed in white robes before fruiting bushes and a classical arch all to a landscape setting, circa 1922, 6.5cm x 5.25cm. ILLUSTRATED Provenance - The sitter is Norah Elaine Eadie, sister of Kate M. Eadie, wife of Meteyard. The reverse is annotated in pen `Me in 1922` together with `To Colin from Norah Elaine Eadie`. This miniature was gifted to the vendor direct from Eadie in the mid 1970`s.
A late 18c English bracket clock by Baker of London, the double fusee movement having anchor escapement and striking and hour repeating on a bell. The backplate has edge engraving and is signed and the arched brass dial has a strike/silent in the arch and a date ring below the dial centre. The dial has scroll spandrels and matched steel hands and the dial centre and strike/silent rings are silvered. It is contained in a round topped mahogany case with brass carrying handles, fish scale side frets and bracket feet, it stands 16.5" tall overall.
A mid 19c French mantle clock in the Religieuse style of the 17th century. The ebonised case is inlaid boullework of tortoiseshell and pewter and has a round topped arch on the case with three flambeau finials. The typical dial has a silver chapter ring on velvet background and engraved brass hands. The movement is of a mid 19c rectangular shape with barrelled springs and deadbeat escapement, rack striking on a gong, 21" tall overall.
A late 18c eight day longcase clock, the 12" arched brass dial signed James Rule, Portsmouth in the arch. The dial has a strike/silent lever in the arch, seconds and date indications, a silvered engraved dial centre, scroll spandrels and unmatched steel hands. The four pillar movement has been converted to strike on a gong in the back of the case. The mahogany case has a pagoda top with sound fret on the front and a dentil moulding around the top hood moulding. Fluted columns flank the dial and the trunk is plain with an arched door, the base has a rectangular applied panel and bracket feet, 84" tall overall.
A late 18c eight day longcase clock, the 12" arched brass dial signed John Grace, Tring and having a strike/silent lever in the arch (not connected), scrolls, spandrels and date and seconds indicators. It is contained in a plain oak case with full arch hood with vase finials and fluted columns flanking the dial. The long trunk door has an arched top and raised edge moulding and the plain base has a double plinth, 81" tall overall (John Grace is not listed as a maker in Tring and this clock bears resemblances to ones made by John Clement of Tring at this time. A John Grace was born in Tring in 1766 and it is possible that this may have been made for him by Clements in 1780/90`s).
An early 18c eight day longcase clock, the 12" arched brass dial signed Peter Collomby, London and having female head spandrels, date, seconds and strike/silent in the arch. The five pillar movement is rack striking on a bell and has anchor escapement. It is contained in a walnut case, the hood having full arch surmounted by a caddy which has a broken arch pediment with three finials over. The long trunk door is of well figured walnut with stringing and crossbanding around its edges and a raised edge moulding. The cut down base now has a plain plinth, the case is in need of extensive restoration with the trunk door detached and the hood needing replacement mouldings, 89" tall overall.
An early 19c eight day longcase clock, the 12" arched dial indistinctly signed and having floral corners and a vase of flowers in the arch. The dial has seconds and date indications and matched brass hands. The oak mahogany case has swan neck pediments to the hood with three pineapple finials and plain columns flanking the dial. The trunk has canted corners with boxwood line inlays and the door has mahogany crossbanded edges and a central applied oval. The base has mahogany crossbanding and no plinth, 77" tall overall.
An early 19c eight day longcase clock, the 12" arched brass dial signed John Isaacs, London and having vase spandrels and engraved floral dial centre and tempus fusee in the arch. It has seconds and date indicators and unmatched steel hands. The substantial three train movement quarter chimes on eight barrels and strikes on a ninth. It is contained in a mahogany case which has been extensively recarved, the hood has swan neck pediments with a central finial and plain columns flank the dial. The trunk has canted fluted corners and the pointed door has extensive floral carving. The base has large lunette carving with a central sheaf of corn and a deep bracket footed plinth also recarved, it stands 89" tall overall.
A Sheraton Revival demi-lune mahogany sideboard of small proportions, the top cross banded and string inlaid, over a central frieze drawer with arch kneehole, flanked either side by two drawers and moulded panels, raised on four square taper legs terminating in spade feet, fitted with oval brass laurel wreath handles and back plates, 110cm (w) by 55cm (d) by 81cm (h).
A George III oak and Coromandel longcase clock, circa 1785, the shaped scroll hood with arched square dial, silvered chapter ring, Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, brass spandrels, circular silvered moon phase arch, arched door, eight day movement, the dial approx 30cm w, approx 215cm h.
