A Brass Striking Lantern Clock, four posted movement with verge escapement and outside countwheel striking on a top mounted bell, pierced frets, 6-1/4-inch Roman numeral chapter ring, scroll engraved centre bearing an inscription Richd Sanderson Wigton, single hand, late/17th century in parts and later, 39cm high 08.10.14, The lantern frame is possibly late 17th century, wheel trains, frets and the dial appear of a later date, dial is only bearing an inscription and the dial plate is not a cast dial, side doors and back panel are missing, vacant hole to the bottom plate for the hammer post, movement needs cleaning, later wall bracket

A Fine and Rare Brass Striking Lantern Clock, signed Thomas Ford, Bucks, Fecit, late 17th century, four posted movement with verge escapement and outside countwheel striking on a top mounted bell, pierced side fret and the front fret engraved with sea creatures, 6-1/4-inch silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with half hour markers, single hand, finely engraved centre with flower heads and signed, central alarm setting disc with a sunburst centre, 39cm high Thomas Ford was working in Buckingham between 1680-1710. See Loomes (Brian) Lantern Clocks & Their Makers, pg.460. 08.10.14, Lantern clock has been cleaned, some later parts, alarm work missing, back of the top plate with two vacant holes for the hoop, later rear panel, movement in going order and striking.
